Yanks hang on

The Yankees hung on to beat the Mets 10-7 Sunday afternoon at Birmingham. Scott Singleton went all the way for the Mets, striking out 7. The Mets offense had 18 hits, but Singleton was able to Houdini out of several jams. Yankee patience at the plate was the order of the day, as a team, they coaxed 10 free passes out of the new tough Met pitchers Kesten and Murphy. Adam Geery had 3 hits, including a 2-run homerun for the Mets.
