First Inning Plays Key Role in Specs Mercy Win
Southbridge Spectacles defeated Shrewsbery Surfers 15-2 on Saturday thanks to a timely nine runs in a big first inning. Southbridge Spectacles put the pressure on, lead by walks by Angel Rosario and Matt LaBonte, an error on a ball put in play by Sean Lavallee and Juan Maldonado, and a double by Matt Higgins.
Southbridge Spectacles got things moving in the first inning. Higgins drove in two when he doubled.
Higgins was the winning pitcher for Southbridge Spectacles. He lasted four innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out two. Ryan Poulin threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Poulin recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Southbridge Spectacles.
Aiden Brown took the loss for Shrewsbery Surfers. He surrendered ten runs on two hits over one and one-third innings, striking out three.
Lavallee went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Southbridge Spectacles in hits.
