The Storm were in the middle of the league table while the Hooligans had zero points, but many of their losses have been close so they could taste a victory.
The Storm would begin well when rookie Mike DeCou from Beemal “The Killer Bee” Vasani would be their first goal with the hope for many more to come. That would not be the case though as the Hooligans were able to tighten up defensively while the play of James Coughlin was a sharp as ever as their backbone in the crease. On the other end was another top notch goalie in Rob Imbriaco, who so far was outdueling Coughlin, but would be hit with a Pete Sztankovits wrister near the end of the first period.
It would go into the intermission squared at one, but the Hooligans would have a power play when George “The King” Dimock’s interference minor sat him. The Rioters would perform marvelously while up a man, nailing the Storm for the go-ahead goal through defenseman Jacky Morin, firing in from the point after Keith Plescia fed him. Coughlin continued his fantastic play against the Storm, preventing Eric “Jelly” Gleie on a breakaway, then diving to parry way a Jim Wilson swat on a rebound.
Up by a goal to begin the third, the Hooligans were unable to unable to add to their 2-1 lead due to Imbriaco’s stellar play; the Storm goalie would prevent Zach Milos and Daniel Maus from doubling the Hooligans’ lead, which lead to a Storm odd man rush, during which Coughlin matched his counterpart’s play with more excellence, acting as a wall. Eventually, the Storm would pull Imbriaco and go all out for the extra attacker, trying everything to beat Coughlin. They would be unable to do that, and were on the wrong end of an empty net goal when Sztankovits sealed a 3-1 Hooligans win.
The Buffalo Wild Wings Man of the Match Award would go to James Coughlin (one goal against).
