Ciara has secured a place at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen to study Physiotherapy- and although we're really sad she's leaving - we're delighted that she will continue her training with our friends John & Melanie Wills at Banchory TC during her time in Aberdeen.
It was a very emotional send-off for everyone who came to say their goodbyes - not least of all for Ciara- who managed to hold it all together (for most of the time anyway!).
We hope that Ciara will visit as often as possible- & has already been invited as a guest at Club Championships in November.
Meanwhile, Ciara a has a few busy weeks ahead (apart from moving her belongings to Aberdeen- how many trips now Val?!)- with upcoming competitions- British Championships in Liverpool, Scottish Championships in Perth - & The Loule Cup in Portugal!!!

The first 2017 BG Spring Series took place in Nottingham on 29th & 30th April.
CETC gymnasts and parents took a mini bus down to Nottingham on the Friday afternoon, ready for Saturday mornings’ competition.
Coaches Lauren, Kayleigh and Kirsty travelled down by plane with gymnast Leona Scott – who sadly had to withdraw from this weekend’s competition due to a broken arm.
Our first two gymnasts up were Ava Harvey and Jodie Christie both competing for Elite Ladies 13-14. This was their first competition at Elite level for DMT.
Unfortunately, there were a couple of crash landings from the girls, so they didn’t get the scores for British championships but great work at your first British Spring Series event!
Next up was Madeline Smith, also competing in her first British Spring Series event, in Elite 11-12 Ladies.
Madeline nailed all 4 passes, finish 10th and gained the score for British Championships 2017!! Well done Madeline - Great work!
Ciara & Caitlin where up last – later than planned on the timetable- so where very tired by the time they had to compete!!
Not only where the girls competing in their first Senior Womans event for 2017, this was also a World Games trial!!
Caitlin has only just returned from 5 months of traveling, so was fairly nervous to be back performing!
For both Caitlin and Ciara, there were a few last-minute pass changes, but it worked in their favour!!!
Caitlin finished 5th, completing 4 passes, and Ciara finishing in a fantastic 3rd place, also completing all 4 passes!!Ciara picked up a bronze medal at the first Spring Series event of 2017!! Well done!
This was a great start for this year’s Spring Series! Bring on Sheffield in a few weeks’ time!!! Go CETC!

The last session of the Scottish Gymnastics Performance Pathway Programme took place on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th February with GB Coach Paul Greaves.
The first day was classroom- based, for coaches only, to summarise and bring together everything that had been discussed through the year of the programme.
On the second day the Performance Pathway athletes and the coaches attended a training day in Dundee at the McTaggart Gymnastics Centre.
CETC Head Coach,
Lauren, asked me to attend both days with her and gymnast Ava Harvey ,as CPD for my coaching role within Club.
The classroom day opened up various ideas for warm up/games and how to get to know the athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, along with getting an insight into what it would be like to be a High Performance athlete and coach.
It was great  to share and discuss with other coaches, our ideas and coaching philosophies.
During the training day, some of the discussions from the previous day were implemented during the warm up, and it was great to see how the gymnasts reacted and adapted quickly to activities.
On the trampoline, I really enjoyed working with Ava and developing her skills, drill combinations and form. It was also interesting to see other athletes in a training environment, and have a chance to work with them.
I feel it has helped not only with my coaching, but also as an athlete myself, to start to think about some of the things learnt as a coach, and try to apply these to my own training.
At the end of the training session I took the lead on the cool down for some of the Performance Pathway athletes, which was great to help assist in their flexibility training.
Overall I gained lots of ideas from the whole weekend, which I will be implementing during our Club sessions over next few months.
(thanks to Lauren Millar for the article)

CETC 10th

What a fantastic night! Right from start with the ‘red carpet’ entrance outside – to the beautifully decorated venue inside – everyone arriving knew they were in for an exceptional evening!
The night kicked off with the distribution of special CETC ‘goody bags’ for every guest-containing memorabilia of the occasion to take home.
Once everyone was settled at their tables, the evening commenced, with Kayleigh (MC) taking us through the past 10 years of CETC history.
The presentation slides began with some original photos of life at The Crags in Edinburgh – where it all began for the Club – moving through the years to the original Lasswade High School venue, & then the current Lasswade Centre, & Sports Centre at Meadowmill.
It was interesting to see that lots of our current members have stayed with us throughout the past 10 years – surely a testament to the ethos of ‘family–centred inclusion’ at CETC, of which we are very proud!
Senior gymnast, Georgia, had produced a video clip of ‘interviews’ from current Club members – from some who had been with the Club since 2006 –to those who had only recently joined – which went down really well!
Kayleigh talked through the many successes of the Club since the beginning- concentrating mostly on the past 5 years – as there wasn’t nearly enough time to reminisce over the whole 10 years – with facts & photos depicting the high points –
such as the phenomenal development & success over the years of two of our senior gymnasts, Caitlin & Ciara, progressing from beginners - to World & European Championships -
& Lauren becoming the first Scottish DMT coach to be appointed as a GB coach at World & International level- brilliant achievements – acknowledged by gymnasts & parents alike.
The presentation of the awards commenced, & were distributed to all the deserving CETC gymnasts - with a pause half-way for the opening of the buffet, allowing everyone to fill their plates with goodies, & settle back at their tables for the remaining presentation of awards.
Entertainment was provided by three groups of dancers from Kirsty Hamilton's 'Live It Dance Studios', who showed us some amazing dancing! Thanks Kirsty!
One of the highlights of the presentation, was the viewing of the video clips sent to the Club by many well-wishers – including John & Melanie Wills, Banchory DMT team, Olga Poole TC, Pamela Clark, Luke Strong, & 2016 trampoline Olympic medallist Bryony Page! Wow!
Thanks so much to you all for taking the time to send your good wishes to CETC!

After the last of the Awards presentations, the lights were dimmed- the music (well) turned up - & the party commenced!!
A really magical night was had by all who attended – special thanks to Kayleigh & the senior gymnasts/coaches
who helped her with the organisation of the event, beforehand - & on the day itself- congratulations on a brilliantly successful night!

Happy 10th Anniversary CETC!!

The annual CETC Championships were held at the Lasswade Centre on Sunday 13th November, and it was great to see all the classes from our two venues coming together for such a fun day.
The event commenced at 10am, with registration, warm-ups, & a chance to buy some raffle tickets & have a go on the Tombola, before the start of the competition at 11.05am, following a minute’s silence in respect of  Remembrance Day.

Around 86 gymnasts took part in trampolining, 77 in DMT, & 30 pairs in the Synchro competition - & they all performed brilliantly!
The event was very well supported by parents & friends – many of whom helped out on the day as judges, marshals, score recorders & much, much more!

Their help was invaluable & the event couldn’t have happened without their support – thank you so much everyone!

All who were there had a great day - & with lots of medals, rosettes & trophies up for grabs- the competition was fierce – but all in true CETC good spirit!

In his acceptance speech, John very graciously acknowledged the success at World-level of Lauren's achievements as GB DMT coach at World & World Age Group Championships last year,

Club members dressed up as scarily as they could (trampoline friendly of course!) - & everyone, including parents, really got into the Halloween theme.
The costumes were brilliant - & everyone joined in the fun & games- including turning everyone into a 'mummy'!
There was also a competition for 'best pumpkin' - & what a fantastic display of artistic creations!
The judges had a really difficult job deciding on the winner (thanks to parents Claire, Lesley & Janis)- but in the end they awarded Katie & Heidi Cooper 1st prize, with Anne & Holly Swift as runners up. Well done!

Massive thanks to Kirsty - who organised the day, & decorated the hall brilliantly - & to everyone else who helped out. Thanks to all the members & parents for contributions, which will all go towards our Anniversary Awards Evening.

The Active Schools programme has grown within the school and they have two classes per week with the introduction of curricular PE beginning this term. To win the Schools event is a fantastic achievement for their first competition.

A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the various jobs on the day - the Club is very grateful to everyone who judged, marshalled, calculated points, wrote certificates and donated chocolate for the Hamper(thanks to Claire Noble for organising)
Without their help, the competition could not have taken place. The Club arranged for a thank you gift and card to be given to every volunteer.

CETC would like to thank Floral Ambitions for donating such a beautiful bouquet of flowers to present to the competition organiser Lauren Millar.

Another thanks must go to our excellent coaching team who arrived early to set up the event, supported and prepared all their trampolinists - either from the Club or Recreational/Active Schools classes in East & Midlothian - during their competition.

gymnast's experience!

Earlier this year I was selected to take part in the Scottish Gymnastics Performance Pathway with Paul Greaves (Bryony Page's coach).
CETC Head Coach Lauren also came to the sessions. While myself and Lauren were there, we learned new conditioning skills on the trampoline and on the floor.
All the flexibility and strength and conditioning norms are recorded, and improvement expected each time we go to keep your place!!
We went over all the tuck, pike and straight back moves.  We also did the same for baranis, with them being judged by John Wills an FIG world class Brevet Judge, and recorded as part of the monitoring process.
We learned new ways to improve these moves and ways to make our moves go higher, and to keep the height during our routines - for example, imagining bouncing within a wide chimney and doing the move at the top.
We also did floor exercises, working on strength and agility. Some of these exercises were like what we do and strength and conditioning class in Club,
but there were also really tricky ones like hanging from a wall bar, having to support my own body weight with my legs stretched out in front of me. That was the hardest!
While we where there, Paul shared his experiences of training an Olympian. It was really cool to have had the opportunity to work with him.

Overall, we had lots of fun and we will be bringing some of the conditioning exercises back to Club. My aim is to work hard in and out of Club, to retain my place on the Scottish Gymnastics Trampoline Performance Pathway,
and meet the targets and expectations set to help me improve  - hopefully one day work towards trialling for a Great Britain Team or event in the future!
Hard work pays off, and I know my coaches at CETC will support  me to achieve my goals in trampoline and DMT and I hope my Club mates will take the opportunities offered at CETC to help them achieve their potential too.

 (Ava Harvey  - CETC Gymnast)

Congratulations to the following CETC gymnasts who qualified for the British NDP Finals in Telford:

Ava Harvey (TRA NDP 6  9-12 & DMT NDP 6  9-12) Molly Short  (TRA NDP 7  15-16) Lauren Millar (TRA NDP 6 17+ & DMT NDP 7 17+)
Orla Donlevy (DMT NDP 6 15-16) Amy Hamilton (DMT NDP 1 11-12) Madeline Smith (DMT NDP 5 11-12)
Gymnasts Molly, Orla , Amy & Madeline competed at this event, from 8th-10th July.
(Unfortunately the others were unavailable due to holidays/travel plans already booked - a shame, after all the work put in this year).
In trampoline, Molly finished 4th, narrowly missing out on a podium position, despite two clean and high routines.
In DMT, Orla finished 4th in a very tough group, completing increased difficulty passes at this event.
Amy finished in 6th place in NDP 1- where it all came down to form, as the whole group were sticking everything!!!
Madeline secured her first British title (!!!) in NDP 5 11-12 DMT, winning the gold podium spot by 0.2 in a very close competition.
Well done to all involved!!!

On Friday 1st July, CETC's senior DMT gymnasts, Caitlin O'Brien and Ciara Donlevy, travelled down to Liverpool to compete in the Elite British Championships.
Coaches Lauren Jeffrey, Kayleigh Jeffrey and Kirsty Beaton, accompanied the girls to the event, together with parents Gill & Val.

The girls had their orientation at 5pm at the competition venue - the Echo Arena - where they got to try out the equipment, and get a feel for the hall and environment they would be competing in on the Saturday and Sunday.

After a team dinner, everyone had an early night to get ready for the competition on the Saturday morning.

At 11am, Caitlin and Ciara had their warm- up - with everything going well.  Both girls were nervous, as this was their first British Championships competing as Senior women!!!

Ciara was up first, followed by Caitlin straight after! Both girls put in good effort, but both had a little fall on pass one - then nailed pass two!!! Going into Sunday's final, Caitlin was sitting in 4th place and Ciara in 5th!

Sunday's Finals were very exciting, showcasing Britain's highest performers for Trampolining, Tumbling and DMT. Ciara was up first again - and executed an amazing first pass ! Caitlin followed with another very strong pass.
Ciara's pass two unfortunately didn't go quite to plan - which was a shame, after trying so hard. Caitlin was up for her final pass of the competition, & she nailed it! Well done Caitlin!!!
After all the Senior women in the group had competed in the Final, Ciara finished 5th, with Caitlin securing a podium place with a silver medal!!!!
Well done girls!!!

(thanks to Kirsty for the article)
