This football pool is named "God's Chosen Pool" for two reasons. The primary reason - every penny taken in is donated to charitable causes. The other reason - God loves underdogs - and that's all this pool looks to highlight.

The pool is based on a 50/50 concept. Half the charitable donation made by the benefactor is used by the organization that is 'selling' entries. The other half goes into the prize pool - where the pool winner selects the charity.

The pool is a cumulative score for the entire season. Each week that a player simply picks an underdog that wins, they score the margin of victory, the spread (as published in our entry page drop-down menu) and a kicker of 2.5 points for a road victory.

A tie score earns the spread.

The final weekend is called "double-down" weekend. A player can select more than 1 game, however, the player must be correct in all games selected -- all or nothing.

Picks can be made up until kickoff of the game being picked. Unlike fantasy football, this pool does not require much analysis to be successful. And, it is far more fun to root for a team if you have 'bet' on them.

God's Chosen Pool is administered by the Men's Club of Atonement Lutheran Church (Florissant, MO). If you (your organization) would have an interest in participating, please contact Steve Rosenfeld (strosenfeldstl@yahoo.com).

For Our New Players

September 1, 2021
You've already done the good deed and your donation is already at work doing God's work.

Now is the time for you to have some fun.

Play as often as you would like or skip any week you can't manage to play. All you need to do is log in and pick your underdog before the game begins.

We are excited that this is, our tenth year. The NFL season runs for 18 weeks. That means Week #18 - the final week - will be our 'double-down' weekend.

For those of you who understand the football betting lines, we will use the Yahoo Sports line published on Tuesday. That means, that if Yahoo Sports says on Tuesday that the Chiefs will win by 6 points to the Patriots - then the Patriots are the official underdogs that week. If Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcie should get injured in practice Thursday and be unable to play that weekend, then the Patriots are still 6-point underdogs for our pool - even if on game day every sports line in the world has the Chiefs as the underdog!

In order for us to prepare the website for entry - we ask that you hold off making entries until Wednesday. The full week's schedule will be posted - and all you need to do is select your game. You will get an e-mail inviting you to make your selection when the website is ready.

  • On Thanksgiving weekend, when there is a mini-slate of 3 games on Thursday - we will allow you to pick one of the games on Thursday and one of the games on Sunday. Each pick is independent - you can win on Thursday and score your points, even if you lose on Sunday.
  • If college football has cleared its schedule (aside from the bowl games), there would be a Saturday slate on the week #17. We will alert you that the rules for Thanksgiving week also apply to Week #17.
  • NEW FOR 2023: The last week of a full slate of 16 games before the BYE weeks begin is "2-out-of-3 Ain't Bad" weekend. You can pick one game or 3 games, needing 2 of the 3 picks to win to get your points for the week.

The entry form can be accessed by clicking on the link located off to the right, just below the countdown ticker. You can also go to the top power bar and click on forms - you'll see the entry form as the top menu choice there. The entry form has five fields.
1.       Your name.
2.       (You can skip this field) Your team name (some people are playing multiple times - like I am picking for my grandchildren or paying for them and having them tell me who they want to win). This field is not required for other players.
3.       Your pick for the week. This is a drop-down menu of the slate, prepared each week by Greg Viehman (thank you Greg). All games will be displayed and the underdog will be identified first.  The home team is in CAPS. Just click on your game selection - you are picking that underdog to win..
4.       Your e-mail address. This is where we will send a confirmation of your entry. If you make a mistake in your e-mail, don't worry - your pick is still on file.
5.       Your charity of choice. You can enter it at any point in the season. Each week you can leave it intact or change it.

The only 'tricky' part here is that you have to submit your entry and then checkout. (See #2 above - some people are making multiple entries for their multiple teams - so the checkout is the most convenient way to allow the multiple entries
(BTW - you may be utilizing the multiple entries feature on several occasions, including the final weekend).

If you change your mind after making your pick, just re-enter your revised choice. I filter all entries, using the latest entered (as long as it is entered before kickoff AND the original entry has not already kicked off)
We may also be making some additional changes to the website during the season, trying to make it a more informative experience.

There will be one winner of this year's pool. We hope that in future years, more people will join in and have some fun, while doing God's good work. If we reach more than 100 players, there will be a second winner. We thank you all for your participation this year.

Problems with the website?

We've had some reports of problems with the website. Sorry - we just use the website (at no charge to us) - it does do a great job of organizing and communicating.

Several people have reported a browser problem. We suggest using Windows Internet Explorer 7. Firefox was one specific browser that had issues. If you encounter others - send in a note and we'll get it over to our IT guru.

Another issue is that you may have to click once to submit your pick (submit - exit the form) and one more time to (checkout - exit the entry screen and return to the homepage) in order to get an e-mail confirmation.
