2004 Week # 12 - Damon's Grill

Located on Route 9N in Marlboro. This place just opened this season. Very nice place to watch the games. 4 Extra Large Projection Screen TV's on the front wall with separate volume controls for each table with small (Drive-In Like)speaker mounted on each table. The food was very good. We all had the soup of the day (Chili) and it was good (could have be hotter (heatwise). Coach Tom and Big Tom both had the Prime Rib sandwich and Steven had the Chicken Platter. Both choices we excellent. Service was okay for a new place, they still need to work out the bugs. Dessert was diappointing, we had the apple tart with Ice Cream. Steve noticed it first - tasted like an onion bagel. Overall I wish this place was near my house. I think it will be a great place to watch games once they get the bugs out.

2004 Week # 13 - Molinari's

Located in Neptune City on Sylvania Avenue- Part of Billows Liquors. They have a bar attached to the liquor store and a restuarant attached to the bar. Well the restuarant was closed and they only had a limited bar menu. Pretty much you could have a burger. They were good burgers however. The barmaid was pretty rough around the edges, right down to the six o'clock shadow. Just before she asked us what we liked she took a big drag on a cigarette and let the smoke ooze out of her mouth as she spoke to us. Very classy. TV's were small for a big place and the sound was too low. Wouldn't make my list of places to go back to.
Rating: 2.7 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week # 3 - The City Bar & Grill

Located on Route 35 in Neptune City
This used to be La Cantina and before that Catina Del Sol. Same decor inside as before. The bar is small and L Shaped. The had great specials with a $2.00 Menu that included: Hamburgers, Cheesesteaks, tacos, nachos, wings, turkey salad sandwiches and lots more. Food was better than average. Beer could have been colder. The bartendars were slow and not very friendly. Could have gotten higher ratings if the service was better.
Rating: 3.55

2004 Week # 4 - Harpoon Willey's

Located just off Route 70 in Manasquan - on the right just before you cross the bridge. I had recently been to this place for lunch and the food and service was awesome. Well the food was still very good but the bartender was bad. He practically ignored our side of the bar. If his name had been Willey I would have harpooned him. He kind of ruined what could have been a good place to go to hand out. The TV's were in bad places and some you thing across the bar insisted on playing the jukebox. Don't these places know that when the game is on the music should be off. Well I can't recommend going here for Monday Night Football.
Rating: 2.13 Dirty Mugs

2004 Week # 5 -Stingers

Located in Long Branch
This used to be Reddy's. They did a nice job remodeling the inside. The bar was beautiful. Too Bad nobody was there to enjoy it. The kitchen was just ready to close when we got their. They did make us some nachos and wings. Both were very good. However when we asked if we could get a bar pie at around 9:35 the kitchen was closed. Too Bad. It was just us and the bartender until 9:30. Funny thing happened at 9:30. The bartender told us that they had power hour from 9:30 - 10:30 ($1.00 beers) At exactly 9:30 about 20 college guys came in and sat down. At exactly 10:30 they got up and left. They did have two nice plasma TV's behind the bar. But it was just too quite for us.
Rating: 3.5 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week #10 - 507 Main

Located on Main Street in Belmar. This place in a reunion house for former St.Rose graduates. They did a great job remodeling this place (formerly Evelyn's). The Bar and tables all done in that rich looking dark wood. Plenty of TV's including two Plasma TV's behind the bar. We sat at the second row bar and right in front of one of the big TV's. Can't get any better view of the game. This place really filled up by the middle of the second quarter. They food was great, half priced brick oven pizza's (delicious), wingers were one of the best we have had. Burger's were very good. This was the first place in many years to get some 5's on the ratings. Overall this is a great place to watch the game.
Rating: 4.36 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week #11- Dublin House

Located on Monmouth Street in Red Bank. An Old drinking pub. Not much to offer to watch the game. Small TV's and no sound. They had hard rock blasting during the game (not good). Service was okay. Wings were okay, Steve said the Burger was good. This place was very smokey. Not a place for Monday Night Football.
Rating: 2.73 Dirty Mugs

2004 Week #14 - Icabods

Located in Sea Bright not far from the Mad Hatter. Nice place inside. They had several small TV's behind the bar. They also had a big TV on the wall, however it was positioned so that the person with the best view of that TV was the bartender. The food was pretty good. Coach Tom and Tommy split the Wings and Ribs platter. Both were excellent. The burgers here were also very good. Nick the Stomach came out of retirement(away at College) to join the crew for the night. Service was pretty good.
Rating: 3.28 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week #2 - Old New York

Located on Route 516 in Old Bridge
This was a pretty neat place. The bar and all the cabinets were made our of Diamond Plate. Just like on a fire truck. First time I have ever seen that. The food was okay. Very larger portions were a plus. Unfortunately the service was slow. Only one bartendar and he was more interested in the people on the other side of the bar. Perhaps one of the crew needed to take a shower or something. They had at least 10 TV's Suspended over the bar so you would watch the game on the TV on the opposite side of the bar. Not bad but they need to work on the service.
Rating: 3.72

2004 Week #6 - The Steak Loft

Located on Route 9N in Freehold. This place in in the Quality Inn and is pretty nice for a hotel bar. They had great pizza and wings. TV's were small but they had them well located. Limited seating at the bar but overall it was an okay place to watch the games.
Rating: 3.4 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week #7 - North Brunswick Pub

Located in North Brunswick on Route 1 North. This place was very nice inside. It was all wood interior (like a ski lodge). Plenty of TV's including a giant projection TV at one end of the bar. The food was very good. They even gave free pizza at halftime (actually served in the 2nd quarter). The service was very good. Might be tough to beat this year.
Rating: 4.46 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week #8 - Denim's

Located in Freehold, Not a bad place to go to watch the game, Good Food, Decent Service, 13 TV's, alittle too smokey. But nothing to separate it from the pack.
Rating: 3.86 Frosty Mugs

2004 Week #9 - F.G. Fields

Located in West Long Branch on Wall Street. The is the old Larchwood. They did a great job remodeling this place. The bar had plenty of seats. They even had some high tops around the one side. Tables were available too. 5 TV's including 1 large plasma TV on the Wall. Service was good and the food was above average. Wingers were hot and Burgers well delicious (owned by the guy who owns the Celtic Cottage) Nice place - unexpected knowing what the Larchwood was like.

Week # 5: The Cabin

Located in Howell Township on Rt. 33. This place was closed for a long time due to a fire. They re-opened earlier this year. They did a great job in renovating this place. They kept the old feel of a log cabin but really updated it. They have 8 TV's on the inside of the Bar, it was difficult to see most of them from the ends of the bar. You couldn't see any TV's from the tables around the Bar. NOT GOOD.

The food was very good. Pizza and Wings were half price during the game and Domestic Beer was $2.00 a pint. Bar maids dressed like REFS. Good atmosphere, good food and excellent prices.
Rating: 3.64 Frosty Mugs

Week # 1 - On the Fritz

Route 9 South in Howell
Great Start for the new season. From the outside it looks like your typical Liquor Store with a Bar Attached. But when you get inside you find that the liquor store is really a seperate room. The bar area was very nice. Plenty of TV's to view the game. The bartender was very nice. They have 25 cent wings during the game. They were very good (haven't had any this good in a while) He recommended that we try the burgers. He said that the Asbury Park Press rated them one of the best in the Shore. I would say they were right. Great place to watch the game with some friends.
Rating: 4.32 Frosty Mugs

Week # 10 - Bello's

Located in Parlin, this is an old roadhouse bar turned into a sports bar. They had plenty of TV's although many of them were postioned poorly. We got 5 seats at the corner of the bar and had a pretty good view of the small TV's behind the bar. The food was pretty good. Tommmy and I had nachos with chili, it was better than average. Frank and Tommy had burgers - they were good. Big Tom had the Ribeye Sandwich and Coach Tom had the Sirlon Steak Sandwich both were very good. The beer was cheap and cold. The facilities were old and not particularly clean. What's up with the bathroom!!!!!
Rating: 3.64 Frosty Mugs

Week # 10: Broadway Bar & Grill

Located in Pt. Pleasant Beach on Randal Street. The Broadway Bar & Grill offers a nice old tavern style atmoshpere. They had a decent crowd for a Monday Night. Many of the patrons were fisherman. The Bar was good size with okay views of TV's situated around the outside walls of the Bar. The food was pretty good. Frank and Tom Split some nacho's. They were good but the chili could have been hotter(temperature wise). Big Tom had his usual Rare Burger and was pleased with it. The wings were excellent. Frank had a chicken alfredo dinner that he said was delicious. Service was very good.
Rating: 3.65 Frosty Mugs

Week # 11- The Ark

Located in Pt. Pleasant on Route 35, just over the Railroad Tracks. It looks like an old Cape Cod house from the street. Inside it is an old style bar (rustic wood decor) The have a giant projection screen TV in the main bar area. However there really aren't many seats that have a good sight line. They did have quite a few TV's in the dinning area and bar that gave us a pretty good view of the game. Food was better than average. "NO SPECIALS" The waitress was nice. Nice place to go eat but nothing special for a Monday Night Game.
Rating: 3.4 Frosty Mugs

Week # 11: Houlihan's

They just opened last Wednesday and the place looks great inside. The Bar had plenty of bar seats, tables, and 10 TV's. Unfortunately the place was very crowded (to be expected 1st week open). The hostess was very accomadating. She got us a 2 tables in the dinning room right by one of the few TV's in the Dinning Room. We had a big crew tonight (6 crew members and 4 additional fans tagging along). We ordered drinks and appetizers (2 wings, 2 nachos). The wings were excellent. The nachos were plentiful but could have used a little more chili on them. Tom had onion soup, Frank had potato soup and both were delicious. We ordered some burgers and Buffalo Chicken Sandwich's. They were both great choices. The Desserts were huge and and very tasty. The service was very good, in fact they earned a serveral bonus points for watching out for Rich's Nuts (he's allergic). The only drawback here was we couldn't hear the game. Kimberely the manager came by to make sure we were happy with the service - Nice touch. This was by far the best place so far this year.
Rating: 4.30 Frosty Mugs

Week # 12 - Big Shot's

Located on Main Street in Keansburg. My first impression was this looked like a decent place. Plenty of seats at a large bar. A huge projection Screen TV (16 feet across). Free pool tables. My first hint that things would go downhill from there was when I asked the Barmaid if the kitchen was open. She was unable to give us a straight answer. Apparently the cook had left the building and his return was in question. When he arrived he said that he would get us what we wanted. If we only know how long it would take and how bad the food would be we would have left. Wings took 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive. Perhaps that was because it took the cook that long to shoot the seagulls on the roof and pluck them. A hint this might be true was the remenants of feathers on several on the wings. Coach Tom ordered a Well Done Burger. When it arrived in looked like it was burned pretty bad. But when the coach bit into it the middle was still raw. The coach was pissed. The barmaid asked what was wrong and Coach Tom told her she shrugged her shoulders and threw the burger in the garbage and walked away. Left it on the bill too!!! So much for customer service. I don't think we have been this disappointed in a place in many years. Probably the worst place we ever rated. Not counting those we walked out on before even ordering.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE
Rating: 1.9 Dirty Frosty Mugs

Week # 12: Mugsy's

Located in Toms River at the intersection of Hooper Ave and Fisher Blvd. The Bar was pretty big with plenty of seats with lots of TV's. They even had a big screen TV in the dinning area which also had plenty of seats. They normally would have gotten bonus points for that but the picture quality wasn't very good. We started our with one waitress but she handed us off to Brittany. She took great care of us. The wings were the best we have had so far this year. They also had chili on the menu. Extra large bowl--very good. TOO BAD we didn't know about the Half Time Buffet (pizza and a 6 foot sub). We ate too much before Half Time. The desserts were excellent including the giant Apple Cobler with Ice Cream that Coach Tom wolfed down on his own. Nice place to watch the game.
Rating: 3.6 Frosty Mugs

Week # 13- Zachaery's (Audible)

Located in Long Branch near Monmouth Park.
We had to call an audible when our first pick CASA COMIDA was closing when we got there. Rich was flagged 15 yards for a personal foul for lack of research. Well at least Zachary's didn't let us down. The food was very good (pizza is excellent) and the sight lines were pretty good. However we have been here twice before and therefore we were more critical than normal.
Rating: 3.68 Frosty Mugs

week # 14 - Uncle Mike's

Located in Hazlet on Route 35 North, behind the Duncan Donuts. This is part of a small strip mall. From outside I thought we were in trouble. But inside the bar was pretty nice. Great sight lines from the bar and the few high tops behind the bar. No TV's in the restuarant area. The food was pretty good too. Frank and Coach Tom had a nice waitress. However Big Tom and Steven had a poor waitress. This explained why our ratings were totally different. Chili was good and the burgers were better than average. The menu however was expensive. They even had a 52 ounce steak on it for $49.00.
Rating: 3.05 Frosty Mugs

Week # 15 - DG Basil's

Located in Brick/Lakewood on Route # 88. Very small bar with limited menu. No specials during the game. The menu said that they had Black Angus Burgers. They looked and tasted more like frozen burgers from BJ's. On top of that a big old local sat down at the table next to us an lit us a big old cigar. Not a good place to watch the game.
Rating: 3.06 Frosty Mugs

Week # 15: Wall Street Pub

Located in Red Bank right near the Train Station. This place is a nice place to go and watch the game. They had plenty of TV's (although most were small). The food was good but not great. The service was lacking. Only two barmaids and they had to handle the bar and the tables.
Rating: 3.50 Frosty Mugs

Week # 2 - Celtic Cottage

Located on 2nd Ave. in Long Branch near Brighton Ave.
The bar area is very small. It is very dark inside. Sight lines were pretty good. They had 3 27" TV's hanging from the ceiling and 1 Big Screen TV in the corner. Food was okay. Mostly just burgers and appetizers on the menu. Burgers were good but nothing special. The Poppers and Wings were better than average but they were over priced (6 wings for $5.50). There were some interesting characters sitting at the bar including one guy who had an imaginary friend he kept talking to. The bartender had zero personality.
Rating: 3.66 Frosty Mugs

Week # 2: Hart's Idle Hour

Located in Pt. Pleasant on Rt. 88. This is a nice place. Lots of seats at the bar and plenty of tables around the bar. The Sight lines we okay, they have plenty of TV's they just needed to be place better and maybe a few could have been bigger. The food was good and they did have a half time buffet. The service was just okay. Plenty of good looking fans watching the game.
Rating: 3.24 Frosty Mugs

Week # 3: Stuff Yer Face

This place is located on Rt 18 in Old Bridge. The Bar was small and cramped. They have an upstairs area with tables and lots of TV's, unfortunately that section is only open on Sundays. The Bar had one 32" TV's in the corner and 4 TV's behind the bar on Shelves(only 3 worked). The food was very good. Everything was $2.50 each. We had bar pies, wings, poppers and Steven had a Burger. Beer was cheap too!
Rating: 3.05 Frosty Mugs

Week # 4: West Side Tavern

Located on the, you guessed it, West side of Rt 88 Bridge in Pt. Pleasant. This is an old house that was converted into a Tavern style Restaurant. Small bar with prime seats available. Tables on one side and a dining area next to the back of the bar. Plenty of TV's to view even in the Dinning Area. The Food was pretty good and the prices were okay. Service was good but not great.
Rating: 3.35 Frosty Mugs

week # 6: Adriatic Bar & Restuarant

Located on Kingsley Avenue in Asbury Park. Not much to look at from the outside. But they have a nice big bar and a seperate dining area. The menu was definitely for a Dinner Crowd. Not much in the way of appetizers. Althought Rich and Tom said the Clams Casino was great. NO WINGS was a major strike against for the COACH. Only two TV's that were poorly situated didn't help either. NOt a great place to watch the game which is probably why we were the only people in the joint.
RATING: 2.95 Frosty Mugs

Week # 7: Huddy's

Located in Colts Neck on Route 34 in the Beckers Hardware Shopping Center. Small Bar area with Plenty of TV's(including a big screen) but few good seats. The food was very good. Wingers were delicious and nachos were on the money. Beer prices were good too! $2.25 for Domestic Bottles. Rich gave them bonus points for having "Golden TEE" video game.
RATING: 3.48 Frosty Mugs

Week # 8: Jack's Rib & Ale

This weeks pick was originally suppose to be the Tropical Pub in Belmar. But it was closed. So Rich "The Critic" called for an audible. Jack's is a great place to watch the Game. They have a nice bar with plenty of seats and TV's. They also have a big screen TV for the people sitting at the tables to watch the game. That is were we sat. Free Hot Dogs during the game and a half time buffet that included Wings, Penne Pasta, and Sausage and Peppers. The only drawback was the lack of service. No Waitresses for the table area. Bartenders were good but very busy. If not for the lack of service it would have been rated much higher.
Rating: 3.50 Frosty Mugs

Week # 9: Draft Picks

Located in the Hyatt in New Brunswick this could easily have been our number one pick of the year. They had plenty of TV's with good views. Even had a giant projection TV (8' X 8')
with plenty of tables to sit at. The Bar could have been bigger and maybe the TV's at the bar could have been better placed but all in all they should have scored really high.

The problem was their limited menu and the even worse service. We had to "flag" down our waitress every time we needed something. Otherwise she wasn't coming by. Frank and Tom had burgers and they were okay. Steven had chicken and it was okay. But I should have been tipped off when the waitress couldn't answer my question about the Mini Cheeseburger Bites. They were just AWEFULL. I also asked for chili and what I got didn't look anything like chili. So I was still really hungry and figured a big dessert could make up for everything. So I FLAGGED down the waitress and popped the BIG QUESTION "What kind of Desserts do you have"

Answer: "NO DESSERT!!!" and then she was gone in a flash. They don't have dessert in a HYATT. You have got to be kidding me.
Rating: 3:05 Frosty Mugs

Week #1: Clancy's Tavern

Our First Stop this year was Clancy's Tavern. This is owned by the same people who own Kelly's Tavern. The place was okay, but certainly not up to the Standard set by Kelly's. Menu is very similar to Kelly's but the food just didn't seem as good.
Rating: 3.35 Frosty Mugs

week #14: Wind and Sea

Nick the Stomach made his return from College tonight
Located right on the water in the Highlands. This is a very classy looking place. The bar was beautiful. With 4 large TV's in the Middle and 4 addtional TV's in the corners of the Bar Room. There really weren't many people there but the bartender check with the kitchen and they said they would keep the kitchen open for us. Good thing they did. We were very hungry and the food was very good. Frank and Nick had burgers, Big Tom had Pasta in Vodka Sauce (great) and Coach Tom had the Chicken Quesadeas (the best he's ever had). Service was excellent. The Bartender told us they have been open for alittle over 1 year. Great Place to go for Dinner, but it does get very busy in the warmer weather.

Week #3 - Tumlty's Pub

Week #3 - Tumulty's Pub
Located on George Street in New Brunswick
This is an old restaurant with a very small bar on the main floor. It had about 10 Bar Stools and one 27 Inch TV. The old architecture was cool. The place was empty so we had no problem getting a seat at the bar. The barmaid was a young girl probably just out of college. She was okay but not very friendly. The food was very good. In fact that was the only thing that saved the night. Rich said the Tuna Steak was great. I had nacho's and a french dip sandwich, both were very good. Steven said the burger was good too! As far as the sight lines go the TV was on one end of the bar and the sound was turned off (not good). I would say this is probably a good place to go out for dinner. But I wouldn't go back to watch the games.

Week #7 - O'Neill's

Located in Manasquan on East Main Street. They have Half-Priced Appetizers and $2.50 Amstel Lights and Heinekens. They had plenty of TV's including a big screen TV and a Plasma Screen TV. Still something was missing. Food was okay but the place was just alittle too dark and dreary for me.
Rating: 3.8 Frosty Mugs

Week #8 - Rugs & Riffy's

Week #9 Peterson's Riveria Inn

Located in Brick, right next to the Route 70 Bridge. This is a very nice place. They have plenty of seats at the Bar. The had at least 5 plasma screen TV's and a few regular TV's. We had to sit on the field level(tables) due to the fact that we had some Rookies with us(Tommy and Matt D). They had a $1.00 dollar menu. It included excellent wings(12), chicken fingers (S-Dub's favorite), small hamburgers, and nachos. Everything was very good. The waitress was very nice, she even stayed late to take care of us. This is a very good place to watch the games. It just did have that extra push to make it to the top. The game didn't help either.

Week#5 - Sally T's

Located in Monmouth Beach
This is a very nice place. Plenty of TV's and good specials on beer. The food was very good. Unfortunately they didn't have much of a selection of bar food. The menu was most seafood or expensive complete dinners. The Burgers were very good but alittle on the pricey side.

Located on River Road in Rumson.
This is a Sports bar/Restuarant/Irish Pub. The Bar had plenty of good seats with excellent views of the many TV's located all around the bar. They even have a big scren TV. The food was very good. Free wings during the game and they were excellent. They also had $5.00 large pizza's during the game and they were very good too. The Bartendar was great. All in all this is a great place to watch a game.

September 13, 2004
Route 36 Eatontown
Located at the Monmouth Mall. Not bad for a chain restaurant. They have a decent bar with several TV's located near the ceiling. Plenty of seats at the bar on around the bar. The appetizers are good especially the Southwestern Egg Rolls. Not a bad place to go for a few cold ones and watch the game.
