March 24, 2016

SA wins the IMG National Classic tournament. It was not easy. SA first went up against the 5th ranked Berkeley Prep team from Tampa and won 4-3. Kenny Moreno-Costa had a big hit in the inning and JJ Teixeira came in with the bases loaded and 1 out and got out of the jam and had 2 shutout innings. In the second game against talented and a state power Mosley the Panthers got some great relief pitching from freshman Ryan Cabarcas to keep Mosley at bay. Luis Chavez doubled in the 5th inning to score Derek Cartaya who had doubled to score the 3rd run and the game was tied and it went 9 innings. In the 9th SA exploded for 7 runs and won the game 10-3. Derek Cartaya went the last 2 innings to pickup the win. They started Weston Bizzle a Vanderbilt commit that we know from his travel team and Bizzle was on at first but the Panthers were patient at the plate and did not let dominate. The Bro's got two runs in the first but Derek Cartaya came in in relief and that was all that. Derek dominated their offense for the next 6 innings with an array of pitches. The Panthers were able to put single runs in the 2nd and 4th till Jose Varela struck with a 3 run shot in the 5th. Things got hectic in the bottom of the 7th with no-one on and 2 outs the Panthers leading 6-2 Derek all of the sudden could not find the strike zone and walked 3 and hit a batter and it was 6-3. We brought in Mark Bejar who allowed a base hit and it was now 6-4. Mark was able to get the next batter to popout to 1st to end the game and capture the titlle which is our second Spring Break tournament tittle in consecutive years winning the Louisville Slugger Classic last year in Emerson, Ga. Max Baldaccini swung the bat well, he drove a ball to the left center gap where Belens CF made a very good catch and Max also had a double over Belens last pitcher who simply was just blowing it past Panthers hitters.
