2017-2018 Try Out Information


All try outs will be held at the Westmoreland County Community College soccer fields.



How do I attend a try out?

If you are interested in playing for the Foothills Soccer Club, you must first let us know that you are coming.  Anyone interested in participating needs to complete an online registration form.  By completing the form, it gives us all of the necessary information about you and allows us to prepare for your visit.  It also allows us to communicate any changes to the try out due to weather or any other unforeseen event.


How much does it cost to participate in a try out?

Try outs are 100% free.  There is no fee to attend any of the sessions.


What should I wear?

It is best to wear a pain T shirt, soccer shorts and a pair of socks.  A simple pain white T shirt will do just fine.


What should I bring with me?

You are going to want to bring…

  • An age appropriate (size), properly-inflated soccer ball
  • Pair of soccer cleats
  • Shin guards
  • A bottle (or 2) of water or a sports drink
  • Sunscreen
  • Any medications that you might need, such as an inhaler


Who will be evaluating the participants during the try out?
Our try outs are conducted and evaluated by our staff of United States Football Federation (USFF) licensed coaches.


How will I be evaluated?

All participants will be evaluated in game situations, including small-sided games and technical skills.


Can I come to more-than-one try out session?

Absolutely.  Actually, we recommend that you attend all of your team’s scheduled try outs.


How will I know if I made a team?

If you made one of our teams, you will be contacted by either the coach, team manager, or the Director of Coaching.  Usually, all offers are extended to potential players within 1 week after the final try out.


If I get an offer, what should I do?

Getting an offer is an exciting time.  Be sure to communicate your intentions (accept or decline), in a timely manner, to the person who extended you the offer.  Make sure that when you return any communication, to include your name and the team’s information for which the offer was extended.


I accepted my offer, what’s the next step?

First, congratulations on being selected to one of the region’s oldest and most well-respected classic clubs.  Now that you are part of our club, your team manager will be contacting you for any additional paperwork or information that might be needed, such as uniform size and so-on.  Additionally, you will be notified to submit a monetary deposit to secure your place on the roster.


I’m a keeper, does Foothills offer me specific training?

Yes.  In addition to team, private and small-group training, Foothills offers specialty training for goal keepers, at no additional cost, to our rostered keepers.  Coach Dan Keefe, from the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg Men’s Soccer Team, is our goal keeper coach and brings many years of experience to the program.  Please contact fhgmgenard@aol.com  or 724.925.1606 for more information.


Does Foothills offer additional training programs?

Our academy programs are specifically developed for both boys and girls, ages 5 through 10 and is a year-round developmental soccer program.  It is designed to prepare players for PA West Classic League and Region I leagues at the older ages.  Academy teams train with our quality coaching staff and participate against other clubs in the Pittsburgh area and attend tournaments.
