Condolences...

On Sunday April 9th, the Federation League lost a former legend.  Mark "Frankie" Carrier, former Brookville Grays shortstop for many years, passed away at the young age of 56.  As most of you know, Frankie was one of the toughest outs in the league and played up until a few years ago.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Frankie's family and friends during this difficult time.

Miners Shaft Senators In Extra Innings

For the second straight night, the Sykesville Senators fought back to tie the game in the 7th inning only to come up short in the 8th.  The Rossiter Miners scored the game winning run on a dribbler to 3rd with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th inning to defeat the Sykesville Senators, 6-5.

In the top of the 7th, Senators first baseman, Caleb "Moose" Eshenbaugh, cranked a towering game-tying round tripper to deep right field to keep the game alive.  Senators pitcher, Ryan Walker, had his best performance of the year and shut the Miners down in the bottom of the 7th to send them game into extra innings.

In the top of the 8th, Rossiter sent "Johnson" to the mound in relief of the tiring Rueben Taylor.  Johnson facing the Senators top of the lineup shut them down 1-2-3.  In the bottom of the 8th, the Miners offense went to work.  After the first batter grounded out, the Miners loaded the bases off 3 straight singles.  Cory Geer hit a dribbler off the end of the bat to third.  The throw home was late and Jacob Stumpf scored the winning run.

Miners starting pitcher, Rueben Taylor worked hard enough to earn the win throwing 7 innings giving up 10 hits, 5 earned runs and striking out 4.  Johnson got the save with 1 inning of work and not giving up a hit and a strike out.

Senators pitcher, Ryan Walker, went the distance throwing 8 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 10 hits, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts.

The Miners are off until Sunday when they travel to Bigler to face Buster's Sports Bar.  The Senators are back in action Thursday as they travel to Kersey to face the Kings at 6pm.

Kersey Kings @ DuBois Rockets - Game 1

The Kersey Kings opened the first round with a 4-3 win in 9 innings over the DuBois Rockets.  The win gives the Kings a 1-0 series lead.

The Rockets jumped out to a 2-0 lead off Joe Beimel in the bottom of the first inning, and Garrett Brown got it started with a leadoff walk.  After stealing second, Brown scored on a Sean Zimmerman RBI single.  The next batter, Sean Sleigh then drove a double into the gap, with Zimmerman scoring all the way from first on a close play at the plate.

That score held until the fifth inning when Kersey put their first rally together.  Joe and T Beimel led off the inning with singles and was driven in on the next batter, Sicheri’s two run triple down the line.  DuBois pitcher Dom Kriner was able to avoid further damage, pitching out of a runner on third and no out jam, leaving the score tied 2-2.

The Rockets came right back in the bottom half of the inning, with Derek Clark collecting the second of his two hits.  Courtesy runner Justin Orlowski advanced to second on a Brown single and scored on Matt Zimmerman’s RBI single a batter later.

In the bottom of the seventh, Sicheri reached on an error to start the inning.  Moving to second on a hit batsman and advancing to third on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt, Sicheri was driven in on a Singer sacrifice fly.

The score remained the same into the ninth, as the Kings Vince Jacobs laced an opposite field one out triple.  Nate Beimel drove him in an inning later to put the Kings on top for good.

Joe Beimel went five innings to earn the win, allowing three earned runs, seven hits and struck out five.  Justin Beimel pitched the final four in relief and didn’t allow a hit while allowing just one baserunner in route to picking up the win.

Kriner pitched seven for the Rockets, allowing three runs, two earned.  He surrendered seven hits and two walks while striking out two.  John White took the loss for the Rockets, allowing an earned run in his two innings of work.

The teams face off again Wednesday at Beimel field in Kersey for game two of the best-of-five series.

Pulaski Generals @ Sykesville Senators - Game 1

The Pulaski Generals fended off the reigning champions, Sykesville Senators, 10-5 to take a 1-0 series lead in the opening round.  Pulaski scored 10 runs in the second, 5 unearned, off starting pitcher Adam Fox.  Sykesville stranded 15 base runners.  Noah Schneider pitched a complete game for the Generals allowing 5 runs on 12 hits.  Jack Frank and Drew Bankovich cranked home runs for the Generals.  Phil Myers also had 3 singles.  Kasey Clinton led the Senators offense by collecting 5 RBIs with a 3-run homer and a 2-run double.

The Generals take their series lead back to Shower's Field Wednesday evening.  Game 2 is scheduled for 6pm.

DuBois @ Kersey - Game 2

What the Fed League is going on here!?!?!  On Wednesday night, the Kersey Kings took a 2 games to none lead over the DuBois Rockets and can sweep the series tonight.  The Kings beat the Rockets, 9-8.  As the "Kersey Kid" (Dom Surra) would say, "Dude, there's no place better than Kersey, PA."  I'll have more game information as it becomes available.  However, I believe the REAL question here is which MLB uniform did Joe Beimel wear?

The highly favored Rockets fight for their Fed League lives tonight at Shower's Field in DuBois with a 6pm first pitch.

Sykesville @ Pulaksi - Game 2

The Federation League playoffs has a long history of providing surprises and upsets.  Wednesday night at Shower's Field continued the tradition in a hard fought, back and forth game between the Pulaski Generals and Sykesville Senators.  The Pulaski Generals moved one step closer to upsetting the reigning 5 consecutive time champions with a walk-off 6-5 win.

The first inning started with both starting pitching having difficulty finding their groove.  In the top of the first, the Senators got on the board first off Generals starting pitcher, Phil Myers.  The Senators got a run off a Kasey Clinton single.  Myers soon found his footing as he stopped the Senators leaving the bases loads.  Likewise, Senators starting pitcher, Wookie, allowed 3 Generals to cross home plate because he his mechanics were off and the Generals took advantage.

In the top of the 4th, the Senators strung together a few clutch hits that eventually tied the game at 3.  That must have ticked the Generals off!  In the bottom of the 6th, Wookie gave two feebies and the Generals did what you're supposed to do, they brought them both home.  In the top of the 7th, the Generals turned to their bullpen and the Senators fancy bats.  With one on, Kacey Clinton eliminated a ball over the left center fence to tie the game at 5.

Wait, there's more!  In the bottom of the 7th, Wookie could not throw a strike to Phil Myers and presented a free trip to first base as a consolation prize.  A sacrifice bunt moved Myers to 2nd.  That's when Nick LaBraska, who did not touch Wookie's curveball all night, found favor with Joboo, and smoked a deuce up the middle.  The throw could not beat a hustling Myers who scored the winning run and thus hurt Wookie's feelings.  However, 2 Klondike bars when he got home made it all better!

The Generals now have a 2 games to none lead and can sweep the series in Reynoldsville on Thursday night.  Let me type that again just in case it didn't sink in....The Generals now have a 2 games to none lead and can sweep the series.

6pm first pitch at Goose Poop Park.  I already have the Vespa idling in anticipation.

Kersey @ DuBois - Game 3

I'm not sure what to say here.  Really, I have no idea what to say because I only received a score.  The Kings of Kersey swept the Rockets of DuBois, 2-0, to advance to round 2 of the 2017 Federation League playoffs.

Kersey, similar to Pulaski, is a team loaded with young talent and has a chance to find themselves in the finals.  The series MVP goes to great-great grandpa Beimel who migrated to the USA so his family can produce baseball teams for generations to come!  Seriously, congratulations Kersey Kings and good luck in round 2!!!!

The Kings will travel to Rossiter and dodge fireworks & insults from the porch sitters on Saturday (7/22) at 2pm.

Pualski @ Sykesville - Game 3

The Pualski Generals came to Goose Poop Park determined to sweep the Sykesville Senators in the first round of the 2017 Federation League playoffs.  They controlled the series and had the Senators by the throat after their walk-off win from the night prior.  But, could the young Generals close the deal on Thursday night ending the Senators 5-year dynasty?

Starting pitching for game 3 was uncertain for both teams.  The Senators planned starting pitcher was in Texas learning a 6th pitch called the "tiddy twister" (A pitch that breaks at the chest and makes the hitter a little jumpy and sore) and it was a race to get him on the mound in time.  The Generals were under the same pressure to find Thomas Grecco and get him on the bump.

30 minutes prior to game time, a heavy rain fell on GPP making the playing surf sticky and smelling of a springtime botanical garden due to all the kitty litter soaking up the mud.  The Generals got on the board first with Phil Myers starting the inning with a 1 out double.  Myers eventually scored, but Ryan Walker fought the goopy mound and found the strike zone to close out the inning.

The Senators fought back in the 3rd when RBI machine, Kasey Clinton, doubled to right scoring Jake Felix and Jared Baummer.  With the Senators nursing a 2-1 lead, Ryan Walker was dealing and finding is groove retiring the Generals for the next 2 innings.

In the 5th inning, the Generals got to Walker and scored 3.  Generals leadoff hitter, Jack Frank, hit a 5-star homer to deeeeeeep left field.  The Generals added 2 more to take a 4-2 lead.  The Generals were not done.  In the 6th inning, they added 6 more runs with a merry-go-round of clutch hits.

That was exactly what Thomas Grecco needed.  Sure, he did walk a lot of Senators hitters, but he did not break, got timely double plays, and frustrated the Senators hitters all game long.  Grecco have up only 3 hits the entire game and stranded 11 Senators on base.

In the end, the Generals slapped the Senators, 10-2, and squeegeed the series.  Congratulations to the Pulaski Generals and good luck in round 2!!!!

Pulaski advances to round 2, which is a best-of-7 series.  Game 1 will be Saturday (7/22) at 5pm in Brookville.

Kersey @ Rossiter - Semi's Game 1

The Rossiter Miners defeated the Kersey Kings, 10-4, to take a 1-0 series lead.  More to come after I receive information and take my wife out for sushi.

UPDATE: Never received game information because emails are hard...apparently.

Pulaski @ Brookville - Semi's Game 1

The Pulaski Generals travel to Brookville to take on the Grays in game 1 of the 2017 Federation League Semi-Finals.  First pitch is scheduled for 5pm Saturday (7/22)

UPDATE: Yesterday, the game was rained out.  Game 1 will be played today at 5pm

Brookville @ Pulaski - Semi-Final Game 2

The Brookville Grays shutout the Pulaski Generals, 7-0, to even the series at 1.  Yellow Leadbetter was jammin' (Pearl Jammin', I should say) on the mound.  The Grays starting pitcher held the Generals to 1 hit while throwing a complete game, walking 4 and striking out 3.  Tons of chicks were waiting for him after the game!  Nate Bonfardine annoyed Generals starting pitcher, Phil Myers, all evening.  Bonfardine was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI's and was a simple HR shy from hitting for the cycle.  Matt Bowser was 2-for-3 with a double and 3 runs scored.  Phil Myers was tagged with the loss going 4 innings while giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 2 strike outs.  No chicks were waiting Phil after the game.  However, Phil did have their only hit....so, there's that.

Both teams hook up in Brookville for game 3 on Tuesday at 6pm.

Pulaski @ Brookville -Semi-Final Game 1

After rain pushed game 1 back a day, the Brookville Grays and Pulaski Generals fought two rain delays to complete game 1 of the Federation League Semi-Finals.

Behind the steady arm of starting pitcher, Noah Schneider, the Generals took game 1, 4-2.  Schneider threw a complete game allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, 8 walks and 6 strike outs. The Grays could not find the timely hit with the free passes Schneider was handing out.

The Generals offense was led by Adam Bankovich who was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.  Ty Bittner and Jack Frank also drove in Generals.  The Grays were lead by Bowser who went 2-for-3 and Nate Bonfardine who was 3-for-4 on the day with a double.  Bell took the loss going 5 innings while giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 1.

Game 2 will be tonight (7/24) at 6pm at Shower's Field in DuBois.

Rossiter @ Kersey - Semi-Final Game 2

The Kersey Kings defeated the Rossiter Miners, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon to tie the best-of-seven series at 1.  Kings starting pitcher, Joe Beimel, put the Miners in a hole with a deep repertoire of breaking balls.  Joe worked 6 innings, striking out 4, on 3 hits and walking 5.  Mike Beimel earned the save working the 7th allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.  The Kings were led by Nate Beimel at the plate.  Nate was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI's.

The two teams will go at it again on Tuesday at 6pm in Rossiter.

Kersey @ Rossiter - Semi Final Game 3

Rossiter takes a 2-1 series lead with a 9-4 win over the Kersey Kings.  Pete Meterko took control of the game with two run scoring doubles.  Those doubles solidified plans for a statue of Pete outside of Slick's Market.  Unfortunately, his hamstrings could not handle all the excitement and was sent directly to the training table.  Dylan Kachmar earned the win for the Miners in relief throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings.  The win sent the Rossiterites into a frenzy as they broke out the "good fireworks" and marched down to the Brandon for some high energy line dancing.

The Kings will wipe the dirt off their crowns and try and return the favor as they welcome the Miners to Kersey (home of the league's best pitcher's mound) for game 4 on Wednesday night at 6pm.

Pulaski @ Brookville - Semi Final Game 3

The Brookville Grays shutout the Pulaski Generals for the second consecutive game, 9-0.  The win gives the Grays a 2-1 series lead.  Glenn Stewart had the babes waiting for him after the game and threw a complete game.  Stewart allowed 7 hits, walked 1, and sent 9 Generals back to the dugout questioning their hitting abilities.  Stewart had help from they guys with the bats.  The Grays top 3 in the lineup scored 7 of the 9 runs.  Miller was 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored, Bowser was 2-for-4 and 2 runs scored, and Bonfardine was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored.  The Grays took advantage of the Generals less than perfect defense.  The Generals committed several fielding errors.

On the bright side for Pulaski, they did have 7 hits this time.  Mike Misiewicz led the Generals with 2 classy doubles.  Ed Seduski took the loss (and probably threw it in the garbage) going 3 innings giving up 6 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, 4 walks and 1 awesome strikeout.

The Generals promise to score a run tonight as they welcome the Grays to majestic Shower's Field for game 4 at 6pm.

Brookville @ Pulaksi - Semi Finals Game 4

The Brookville Grays took a 3-1 series lead with a 7-4 win over the Pulaski Generals in game 4.  Tonight, the Grays have a chance to win the series and play for the Federation League title.

Grays starting pitching, the Plummer, held the Generals hitless through 5 innings of work, but gave up 7 free passes and 2 earned runs.  Brandon Bell came in to save the day working the final 2 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits and striking out 1.  The Grays offense got to, Generals starting pitcher, Thomas Grecco by cranking out 8 hits and 7 runs.  Grecco continued the Generals playoff trend by allowing 6 batters on base at no charge.  Grays hitters, Miller and Bishop combined to drive in 4 runs, scored 2 runs themselves and went 4-for-7.  Klein also chimed in with a multi hit game going 2-for-4.

After a 2 game drought, the Generals finally scored a run, but only had 3 hits.  Drew Bankovich had a 2-run double.  Mike Misiewicz and Jake Miknis accounted for the other 2 hits.

Game 5 is tonight in Brookville at 6pm.

Rossiter @ Kersey - Semi Final Game 4

The Kersey Kings fought hard and nagged the Rossiter Miners enough to send game 4 into extra innings.  However, it was not enough to earn the win.  The Miners beat the Kings 4-3 in 8 innings to take a 3-1 series lead.  Internet is rather new to both Kersey and Rossiter.  So, I'll get more details as long as no one picks up the phone and breaks connection.  Stay tuned...

Game 5 is tonight in Rossiter at 6pm.  The "porch sitters" have already begun pre-gaming, so grab your Mossy Oak and gas up the ATV's because the Miner's have a chance to advance tonight.

Kersey @ Rossiter - Semi Final Game 5

The Kersey Kings survived to live another day in the Federation League Semi-Finals after beating the Rossiter Miners in game 5, 4-2.  The series now shifts back to Kersey where game 6 will be played on Saturday evening at 5pm.

Pulaksi @ Brookville - Semi Finals Game 5

Congratulations to the Brookville Grays for advancing to the Federation League Finals after defeating the Pulaski Generals 2-0.  Pulaski didn't go down easy, Rick Lines made it tough on the Grays pitching a 4 hit game and allowing 1 earned run, 4 strikeouts, and 3 walks. Unfortunately, defensive miscues allowed the Grays to advance.  Great season Generals!

For the Grays, they also got a fantastic performance on the mound from Klein who throw a complete game allowing 4 hits and striking out 8.  Jed Fiscus and Klein scored the games only runs while Nate Bonfardine was 2-for-3.

Brookville will await the winner of the Kersey and Rossiter series to determine their Finals opponent.  The Federation League Finals will begin on Tuesday (8/1) at 6pm.

Rossiter @ Kersey - Semi Finals Game 6

The Rossiter Miners defeated the Kersey Kings 12-5 to advance to the Fed League Finals.  Congratulations on a great season Kersey!!!

Brookville @ Rossiter - Finals Game 1

Rossiter @ Brookville - Finals Game 2

Rossiter takes a 2-0 series lead with a 8-2 win at Brookville.  Rossiter scored 8 runs over 7 innings and held the Grays to just 2 runs.  Grays 2 runs came from a Bob McCullough 2-run homer to center that landed in the Little League Field.

Above, Ty Zimmerman gets stung by the ball on his left arm while trying to score and it certainly looked painful.  Good thing it didn't hit his fitbit!  Another spectacular photo by our friends at the Courier-Express!

Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Rossiter at 6pm.  Concession stand opens at 5:55pm, come hungry!

Brookville @ Rossiter - Finals Game 3

The Brookville Grays pulled themselves together and defeated the Rossiter Miners, 7-6, to cut Rossiter's lead to 2-1 in the best of seven series.  Grays starting pitcher, Tom Plummer, continued to lay pipe in the playoffs by going 5 innings to earn the win.  Trouble came in the 4th when the Miners put together a comeback that ultimately fell short.

Below, Matt Bowser completes a double play while Kane McCall throws his arms in the air because Bowser is hogging the play, leaving McCall to wonder, "why am I even here?".
