Connetquot Youth Soccer League Scholarship

The CYSL Scholarship Award is a one-time scholarship in the amount of $500.  It will be awarded annually to one student who plans to continue their education following graduation from high school.  The Award is open to male and female high school seniors who have been positively impacted by being involved with CYSL.

The applicant must:

  Must be an active member in the CYSL program for a minimum of two (2) years [may include senior year] during high school career.  NOTE: A member is considered active in the CYSL program if is he/she is a player, coach, or referee for any CYSL sponsored team.  This involvement must be identified in the Scholarship Profile.

  Be a high school senior in good academic standing, a candidate for graduation, and planning to enroll in an accredited college or university, a trade/business school, or other further educational career institution.

  Obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 75%;

  Complete a Scholarship Profile obtained from and returnable to the High School Guidance Office (for Connetquot High School applicants); 

    •       For candidates outside Connetquot High School, a copy of your District Scholarship profile will suffice or please contact CYSL Scholarship Committee for details.  

  Submit three (3) copies of the Profile with cover sheet;

  Submit a typed, double-spaced essay, of at least one page but not more than two, which describes how you have been impacted by your involvement in the CYSL program.

    •       The essay may include a pivotal or breakthrough event within CYSL.
    •       The essay may explain the importance of being involved with an organized youth soccer league.
    •       The essay can identify how the applicant has helped CYSL players or teammates.

Eligible Connetquot students are invited to apply for this Scholarship through their High School Guidance Office.  The Guidance Office will verify the Scholarship Profile with regard to rank in class and weighted average.  All completed profiles that meet the criteria will be submitted, by the High School Guidance Office, to the Scholarship Chairperson of CYSL.  Other Districts’ students may apply directly to the CYSL Scholarship Committee by mailing their documentation to CYSL Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 1136, Ronkonkoma, NY 11779.  All completed applications should be submitted to the Scholarship Chairperson no later than March 1 of the applicant’s graduating year.

Notification of Winners and Procedure for Scholarship Award Recipients

A public announcement of the scholarship will be made at the Connetquot High School Athletic Awards Night.  In addition, the winner must be present at the CYSL Annual Awards Picnic held in the beginning of June, where a Letter of Award and Congratulations will be presented to the winner.  This letter will also detail the procedure for receiving the award payment.

In the event of forfeiture of the Award for any reason, a runner-up will be selected and awarded the scholarship.

The Board of Directors of the Long Island Junior Soccer League, Inc. has established a scholarship
fund for those graduating seniors who have participated in the Long Island Junior Soccer League,
Inc. for at least five (5) seasons. It is suggested you have a minimum overall High School average of
75 and you will be attending college or trade school. Additionally, serious consideration is given to
the well rounded candidate who has participated in volunteer projects and/or community service.
