SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

First Pitch!

And so it starts in earnest. 

We had four of our best five teams playing tonight.  All with eyes on making it through to Sunday with a bye, by going 4-0 or 3-0-1 or maybe squeaking through at 3-1.  The trouble with opening night is that two teams (barring ties) are going to have to run the table to make that happen!  Oh, it can most certainly happen, but it'll be an uphill climb. 

So how did they fare?

#4 Master Batters (0-1) @ #1 Rusty Rebels (1-0)

The teams combined for 1 run and 2 base runners through the first 2 and a half innings.  Then the Rebels exploded for 7 runs.  Sandy Bell lead off the inning and it was 10 batters later before the bleeding stopped with the Rebels ahead 7-1 after 3 complete.  The game wouldn't get much closer and the Rusty Rebels hung on for an 11-6 win. The bright spot for the Master Batters was Derek Edridge who was 3/3 with three runs scored, including scoring from 2nd on a tag up AND scoring from 1st on a tag up.  I saw it. It happened.  While no one was perfect on the night for the Rebels, Douma and Bush were lights out in the middle of the infield!  

#5 Draft Kings (0-1) @ #2 Sons Of Pitches (1-0)

 There was still an ample crowd for the late game and they were treated to the a ten batter inning in the 1st for the Draft Kings, who found themselves up 7-2 after 1 inning.  The Sons of Pitches had some resolve in them and answered with 6 if their own to tie the game at 8's after 3.  It seemed that the Kings put down the hammer in the top of the 4th, scoring 6 more to take control back and a 14-8 lead.  However, that would be the last they'd score.  6 batters in the 5th and no runs.  5 batters in the 6th and no runs.  4 batters in the 7th to seal the deal.  SoP down by six scored 3 in the fourth, 0 in the 5th and 6 in the 6th to earn a 16-14 win.  Mike Iacoucci was 3/4 for the Draft Kings in this one including an off field triple to the wall!  Meanwhile, Andy Gee was surgical pitching and was 4/4 at the plate and scored 4 times to boot.     

Standings look terrible as we've lost our ability to post pictures presently.  We're actively trying to repair that.  If its not fixed this week, standings will look A LOT prettier when we get to Coventry on Friday.
