2015 ASE Season

ASE cruises in first two games

Sliding

Wow what a way to start off the first week of the season with three games in four days. Well, after the first two games we certainly are off to a good start. On Monday night we really hit the ball well and beat Midland UMC 10-3. In the game, Presley Chitwood was 3 for 3 with an RBI. Gavin Ezell was 2 for 3 with an RBI. McClane Moody had a big night going 3 for 3 and driving in 4 runs. Jimmy Minks and Tristen Evans was both 2 for 3 and each drove in a run. Daniel Hoffman really hit the ball hard, going 2 for 2. Alex Heseman, Zach Funmaker and Leah Young really came thru at the bottom of the order as each player had a hit in the game. Tidus Smith did a good job playing pitcher and also hit a hit in the game. In all we had 18 hits in the game and cruised in this one to an easy win.

On Tuesday night the pitching maching was amped up a little and was throwing pretty fast. It seemed early in the game that would be a factor, but our kids did a good job adjusting to the speed and we once again hit the ball well on our way to shutting out Cooper Coin 8-0. The opening inning would not see either team score as the machine was firing it in there. In the bottom of the 2nd we got our bats going. McClane Moody led off with an inside the park home run. Jimmy Minks then doubled and Tristen Evans tripled to score Jimmy for a 2-0 ASE lead. Daniel Hoffman would then come thru with a single to score Tristen. Alex, Zach and Leah would all battle hard at the plate, but all three would go down on strikes to end the inning with us holding a 3-0 lead.

After Cooper Coin did not score in the top of the 3rd, we would put this game away. Tidus Smith and Presley Chitwood would both single and Gavin Ezell would then hit an inside the park home run to extend our lead to 6-0. McClane would then double and Jimmy would single him in. Tristen would then knock in our 5th and final run of the inning giving us a 8-0 lead. Cooper was not able to get anything going in the top of the 4th and the game was called due to time limit.

On Thursday at 5:30, we play a very good Perspectives team that is very well coached by two good friends of mine, Coach Doug and Coach Scott. Should be lots of fun!

Moody's homerun leads ASE over Perspectives 6-0!

Homerun

On a night that saw the pitching machine all over the place, our kids found a way to pound out enough hits to come away with a 6-0 win over a good Perspectives team. The top of the 1st inning would see Perspectives come right out hitting the ball. Their first batter barely reached on an infield single as he just beat the throw from Daniel Hoffman at 3rd base. Their next batter would hit a grounder to Jimmy Minks at 2nd base, who scooped the ball up and threw to McClane Moody for a quick out. Their runner that was on first tried to make it to 3rd base but McClane ran him down and tagged him for a double play. Heads up play by McClane!   After a single, their clean up hitter would groundout to Tidus Smith at pitcher and it was our turn to try and hit off this crazy machine.

Tidus would leadoff for us by hitting a hard grounder to shortstop. The Perspectives shortstop made a very good play and threw Tidus out by just a foot or so. Presley Chitwood and Gavin Ezell would then reach on back-to back singles. McClane then came up and hit a rocket down left field line that cleared the fence for a 3-run homerun. Suddenly it was a 3-0 ASE lead. Jimmy then kept the rally going with a base hit but Tristen Evans would go down on strikes for the second out of the inning. Daniel Hoffman would then groundout to the pitcher and after one full inning of play we led 3-0.

Neither team was able to get anything going in the 2nd inning as the machine started throwing the ball very low and both teams had trouble hitting the ball at all. Tidus did throw out the only kid for Perspectives that hit in the inning. Our half of the 2nd would see Derek Chitwood reach on an infield error by the Perspectives 1st baseman. Our next three batters all went down on strikes, as we could not seem to make contact with that very low ball that was coming out of the machine.

The top of the 3rd would see all three of Perspectives batters go down on strikes and we would come up in the bottom of the inning with the time limit winding down and looking to put this game away. Tidus would single to get the rally going. Presley went down on strikes but Gavin would double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with only one out. McClane would hit a hard shot to right field and used a couple of Perspectives throwing errors to come all the way around for an inside the park home run and a 6-0 ASE lead. The umpires then called the game due to the time limit and we had moved to 3-0 on the season with the 6-0 win. Great job this week ASE!

ASE Week 1 - Player of the Week - McClane Moody

McClane Moody

Our player of the week for the opening week of the season was an easy choice. McClane went 7 for 7 in our three games this week and hit two home runs, while driving in a whopping 10 runs on the week. He really stepped up big time and showed why he's the leader of our team. At this pace, McClane will shatter all the ASE hitting records. Let's just hope he keeps it up. Great job McClane, we are very proud of you!

ASE edges Phillip Taylor 6-5 on Jimmy Minks single!

Wow waving

Wow, this one was a fun one to coach. I knew that Phillip Taylor was a good team and I told the kids they better be ready for a tough one tonight. Phillip Taylor is very well coached by David Orick and his crew. They always do a good job with their team. They have a bunch of players back from last year and they hit the ball really well. So I knew it was going to take our best effort to pull this one out.

We came right out making plays on defense and it would prove to be the difference in the game. Phillip Taylor led off with a hard hit ball to Presley Chitwood, who scooped it up and threw to McClane Moody at 1st base for a quick out. Their next batter would go down on strikes and after a single, Jimmy Minks would end their half of the inning as he caught a pop up at 2nd base. In the bottom of the 1st we came right out hitting the ball. Tidus Smith got us going with a single and Presley would single and we would use a throwing error to score Tidus for a 1-0 ASE lead. Gavin Ezell then singled to score Presley and the rally was on. McClane would double, scoring Gavin and suddenly we were up 3-0. Then a strange thing happened as our next three batters all went down on strikes. So after one full inning of play, we held a 3-0 lead.

The top of the 2nd would see Phillip Taylor's bats catch on fire. They reeled off 5 stright hits and just like that we found ourselves in a tie game. After a strikeout, another single would give them a 5-3 lead and we looked to be in some trouble. In the bottom half of the inning, we were not able to get anything going as Derek Chitwood grounded out to the 1st baseman. Zach Funmaker and Alex Heseman both went down on strikes and just like that we were back on defense.

I knew that if we could hold them, we had the top of our order coming up to bat in the 3rd inning. Our defense really came thru big time! After a single started the inning for Phillip Taylor, Presely would snag up the next grounder and throw to Jimmy at 2nd base for a forceout. Their next batter then popped up to Jimmy at 2nd base, who caught the ball and threw to 1st to double the runner off the bag. What looked to be a rally was suddenly stopped by some great plays by our defense.

We came to bat in the bottom of the 3rd with less than 10 minutes left on the game clock. Leah Young would foul off a couple of pitched before finally going down on strikes. Tidus then got our rally going with a single up the middle. Presley would then come thru with a single of his own. Gavin would force Presley out at 2nd base, but Tidus hustled and scored on the play to pull us within 5-4. McClane then battled hard at the plate, fouling off several pitches before driving a ball to left field, scoring Gavin to tie the game at 5. McClane would end up at 2nd base on the play and Jimmy Minks would then come thru with his biggest hit of the season with a single that scored McClane for the 6-5 ASE win! It was a great comeback against a really good team. Very proud of our kids in this one!

ASE Week 2 - Player of the Week - Jimmy Minks

Jimmy Minks

Our player of the week for week 2 of the season is Jimmy Minks. Jimmy was one of the heroes of our big win versus a good Phillip Taylor team on Thursday night. Jimmy had a couple of put outs and turned a double play in the game. Jimmy also came up with the game tied and the winning run on 2nd base. He came thru as usual with a big hit to score the run and give us a 6-5 win. Jimmy is a very coachable kid and a joy to have on our team. Great job Jimmy, we are very proud of you!

ASE survives scare from Forsgren, 3-1

outfielder catches ball

For the second game in a row, our defense bailed us out when our bats failed us some. It took a couple of good plays by McClane Moody and Tidus Smith on defense to help us hold on for a slim 3-1 win over a good Forsgren team. The top of the 1st inning would see Forsgren hit the ball well. They led off with a single up the middle and then a double would score the first run of the game. A couple of their better hitters went down on strikes and that helped us out some. With a runner on 3rd base their next hitter hit a slow roller that McClane hustled in to grab and tag the runner out before he touched home plate. We were lucky to escape only being down 1-0. The bottom half of the inning we came out hitting the ball. Tidus singled and Presley Chitwood doubled off the fence to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Gavin Ezell then singled in Tidus to tie the game at 1. After a rare strikeout from McClane, Jimmy Minks singled to score Presley and I got greedy on the play and got Gavin tagged out at home plate. Stupid move on my part! Derek Chitwood would then groundout to the 1st baseman for the final out of the inning.

The 2nd inning neither team was able to get anything going as both teams went down on strikes for two of their three outs. The 3rd inning would see Forsgren put pressure back on our defense. A couple of singles and then a couple of strikeouts would put runners at 1st and 2nd with two outs. Tidus then made a heads up play on a ball hit to the outfield. He snatched up the ball and tagged a Forsgren runner out as he was trying to score. Really good heads up play by Tidus. The bottom of the 3rd we led off with a couple of strikeouts from Leah and Alex, but Tidus picked them up with an infield single. Presley then reached with an infield base hit and Gavin drove in his second run of the night with a deep ball to the left field fence, scoring Tidus for a 3-1 ASE lead. McClane would go down on strikes again and our half of the inning was over.

The top of the 4th saw Forsgren struggle to get anything going and the time limit would expire with us notching a hard fought 3-1 win. The win moves us to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in league play. We return to action tomorrow night in a non-conference game versus Khilco from Evans. See you all there by 7pm.

ASE buries Khilco, 9-0!

player buried

Our bats came out hot in this one and it never really was much of a game. Khilco only managed four hits in the game, while we pounded out 12 hits and cruised to a 9-0 non-conference win. The top of the 1st inning would see Khilco lead off with an infield single. Presley Chitwood did a good job of keeping the ball on the infield. After a strikeout, a single would put runners on 1st and 3rd with only one out. Their next batter popped up to McClane Moody at 1st base, who caught the ball and doubled the runner off 1st base for a double play. We came to bat in the bottom of the inning and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Tidus Smith led off with an infield single. Presley would double to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. The "red-hot" hitting Gavin Ezell came to the plate and doubled to left field, scoring two runs. McClane would then hit a ball to deep left field to score Gavin and give us a 3-0 lead. Jimmy Minks kept the rally going with a single to put runners on the corners. Derek Chitwood and Tristen Evans both battled hard at the plate but went down on strikes. Daniel Hoffman stepped up and hit a ball to left field, scoring two more runs for a 5-0 ASE lead.

The 2nd inning would not see either team get anything going on offense. Alex Heseman did manage a single for us but we could not get him around as Tidus would groundout to the 1st baseman to end our half of the inning. The top of the 3rd would see Daniel catch a high pop up to begin the inning. After an infield single, Khilco's next two batters went down on strikes and we came to bat in the bottom of the inning looking to put this game away. Presely and Gavin would single but McClane went down swinging for the first out. Jimmy would pick his teammate up with an infield single to load the bases for Derek. He hit a ball about six feet in front of the plate and Khilco overthrew their 1st baseman. Three runs would score on the play and just like that it was an 8-0 ASE lead. After a Tristen strikeout, Daniel would knock in his 3rd run of the game to give us a 9-0 lead. Zach Funmaker battled hard at the plate and had some good swings but eventually went down on strikes. The game was called due to time limit and we had notched our 6th win of the season. Great job tonight ASE!

ASE stays un-defeated by beating Midland 6-1

Memorial Day

It may have not been our best game of the year but we did just enough to get the win on this night. Midland really struggled at the plate, with the exception of one or two of their players. They were never ever to string many hits together to mount much of a threat to us tonight. They did not score in the top of the 1st and we came to bat in the bottom of the inning and put runs on the board. Tidus Smith was his reliable self and started us off with an infield single. Presley then doubled to score Tidus for a 1-0 ASE lead. Gavin Ezell would then double to left field, scoring Presley. McClane Moody broke out of his slump with a hard hit ball to deep left field, scoring Gavin for a 3-0 ASE lead. Jimmy Minks went down on strikes, but Daniel Hoffman picked him up with an RBI single to give us a 4-0 lead. Tristen Evans also broke out of his slump with a single. Alex Heseman and Zach Funmaker had some good swings at the plate but both went down on strikes to end the inning.

The 2nd inning neither team was able to get anything going on offense. The top of the 3rd would see Midland hit some good shots but our defense made plays. McClane and Presey teamed up on a play and we would keep them off the scoreboard to still lead 4-0. The bottom of the 3rd we put the game away. Leah Young battled hard but went down swinging, but Tidus picked her up with an infield single. Presley would also reach on an infield single. Gavin then struckout for only the second time all season and suddenly there were two outs. McClane would then smack a ball to the outfield and Tidus and Presley both ran the bases well and scored on the play. We had extended our lead to 6-0 with the time limit winding down. Midland did manage to score a run in the top of the 4th and it may have been more if not for a good play by Tidus to end their scoring threat.

The win moves us to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league play. We are one game ahead of Perspectives in the league standings. We will play them in a huge game on Thursday, May 28th @ 5:30. We will practice next Wednesday the 27th @ 5:30. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

ASE Week 3 - Player of the Week - Gavin Ezell

Gavin Ezell

Our player of the week for week 3 of the season is Gavin Ezell. He had a great week at the plate in our three games. He went 5 for 6 with 3 runs scored and had 6 RBI's this week. He has really become one of our best hitters. I know he's spending a lot of time at the batting cages and it's paying off big time. Gavin is a great kid and always gives 110%. Great job this week Gavin, we are very proud of you!

ASE gets close call from Acme, 2-1!

On a crazy night at Goldtrap that had already seen Perspectives get hammered by Forsgren, 11-3 and Phillip Taylor tie Midland 4-4, somehow we survived a very close call from a much improved Acme team. Not much to write about in this one so I'll make it short and sweet.

You could tell that we had not played in a week and it was the last day of school. The kids really had a hard time staying focused on the game and the result would be us only scoring 2 runs and pulling out a close one in a game that we probably should have lost. Keys plays in the game included, Tidus Smith catching a pop up with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the 1st inning. We were able to tie the game at 1 in the bottom of the 1st because of a base hit by Presley Chitwood and an RBI single by McClane Moody. In the bottom of the 2nd, Tristen Evans would single and Derek Chitwood doubled to score Tristen for what would be the final run of the game.

Acme had runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the top of the 3rd but their last batter would hit a ball to Jimmy Minks, who threw to McClane for the final out of the game. Whew, that was a close one. With our win and Perspectives loss, we now have a full two game lead on them in the league standings. Because of Phillip Taylor's tie in their game tonight, we hold a 2 1/2 game lead on them in the league standings.

See you Wednesday at practice. We need it!

Alex Heseman

ASE Week 4 - Players of the Week - Zach Funmaker and Alex Heseman

Zach Funmaker

It was tough to pick a player of the week for this week. We had a lot of players had a really good week of baseball. Tidus Smith had a great week. McClane Moody, Tristen Evans, Presley Chitwood, Jimmy Minks and Derek Chitwood all played very well this week. But we choose two players that really came thru on Thursday night with some big hits and we could not be prouder of Zach Funmaker and Alex Heseman. These are two wonderful kids that are a joy to be around and have on the team. They have been trying their hearts out at the plate and came thru big time for us tonight versus Phillip Taylor. Congrats to Alex and Zach for being named players of the week!

ASE pounds out 14 hits in 7-4 win over Philip Taylor!

baseball fire

We hit the ball all over the field tonight on our way to a 7-4 win over a good Phillip Taylor team. We hit the ball up and down the line-up tonight as we had some players really step up and come thru with big hits. The bottom of our line-up was the key in us winning this game. Tristen Evans, Zach Funmaker and Alex Heseman were a combined 5 of 6 on the night and drove in a couple of runs. The big thing was that they were responsible for getting our rally going a couple of times.

The top of the 1st inning, Tidus Smith would get us started with a single. Presley then forced Tidus out at 2nd base on a really good play by their 2nd baseman. After a Gavin Ezell strikeout, McClane Moody would single to score Tidus for a 1-0 ASE lead. Jimmy Minks would single but be left stranded on the bases as Derek Chitwood went down on strikes. The bottom of the inning our defense had to make some plays and they did. Phillip Taylor hit the ball well, but McClane and Tidus teamed up for a couple of outs and after one inning of play, we led 1-0.

The top of the 2nd was when the bottom of the order started doing their thing! Daniel Hoffman led off with a strikeout but Tristen Evans picked him up with an infield single. Zach Funmaker then singled hard to left field. Alex Heseman would come thru with an RBI single to score Tristen for a 2-0 ASE lead. After Leah Young battled hard at the plate, but went down on strikes, Tidus picked her up with a single to score Zach. Presley then kept the rally going with a run scoring double to left field, making it a 4-0 ASE lead. Gavin would go down once again on strikes and our half of the inning was over, but it sure was a nice rally started by the bottom of the order! The bottom of the inning saw Phillip Taylor struggle to get anything going. Jimmy Minks made a real nice play on a hard hit ball to keep them from getting anything started and after two full innings of play we led 4-0.

The top of the 3rd would see McClane groundout to the 2nd baseman to start the inning. Jimmy picked him up with an infield single. Derek Chitwood would then single to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Daniel came thru with a single to score Jimmy and give us a 5-0 lead. Tristen would groundout to the 1st baseman and I got greedy on the play, trying to score Derek and got him tagged out at home for the third out. The bottom half of the inning, Phillip Taylor tried to get a rally going but Tidus made sure that didn't happen. He made a couple of good plays on hard hit balls, throwing to McClane to squish any hopes for a Phillip Taylor rally. Good job Tidus!

The top of the 4th would see us put the game away. Zach led off with a single to left field again. Alex Heseman would groundout, but Zach would hustle all the way around and score on the play. Leah would go down swinging again but once again Tidus picked her up with a hard hit single to right field. Presley would then double, scoring Tidus to give us a 7-1 lead, which secured us the win. The time limit was almost up and that put us up by 6 runs, so this one was over. We got sloppy with the ball in the bottom of the 4th and Phillip Taylor managed to score a couple of runs. This one would end with us notching our 9th win of the season 7-4.

The win keeps us in 1st place in the Goldtrap league standings with a league record of 7-0. We are two full games ahead of Perspectives, which we play next week. See you all at our game versus Forsgren on Monday night at 7:30. Please be at the field by 7pm.

Tidus Smith

ASE Week 5 - Players of the Week - Tidus Smith and Presley Chitwood

Presley Chitwood

Our players of the week for week 5 of the season are Tidus Smith and Presley Chitwood. Both had a very good week for our team. Tidus went 4 for 7 at the plate, while knocking in 4 RBI's. He also made several good plays in the field and threw several players out at 1st base. Tidus has become a real leader for our team and has done a great job this year at pitcher for us. Presley also had a good week, going 5 for 6 at the plate and knocking in 2 runs. Presely is doing a really good job at shortstop for our team. It's really tough for a 1st grader to play that spot and he has been outstanding. Almost forgot to mention, both players also had an inside the park home run this week. Congrats to Tidus and Presley, we are very proud of you both!

ASE clinches League Championship with 8-2 win over Acme!

Trophy

We had a lot on the line going into this game. With a 1 1/2 lead on Perspectives in the league standings with 2 games to go, all we had to do was get a win versus Acme and the league title once again would rest with ASE. We have won the league 7 of the last 9 years, while compiling a 126-9 record over that time span. It took a lot of good players and parents to make that happen and this group would continue the ASE tradition. They have improved as the season has went along and as we draw close to city tourney time, I feel we may be playing our best baseball of the season right now. We got almost everyone on the team hitting the ball right now and our defense continues to make plays to help us win games. Let's see how this one was won.

The top of the 1st would see us come right out pounding the baseball. Jimmy Minks and Presley Chitwood led off with singles and McClane Moody would hit a ball to deep centerfield, scoring both runs. McClane hustled all the way around the bases for an inside the park home run and a 3-0 ASE lead. Tidus Smith would get the rally going again with an infield single. Derek Chitwood would double to score Tidus and just that quick it was 4-0. Tristen Evans would keep his "red hot" bat going with an infield single. Daniel Hoffman then popped up to the 1st baseman and our kids were running on the play. Their 1st baseman caught the ball and would double Tristen off first base for a quick double play. Zach Funmaker would battle hard at the plate but go down on strikes to end our half of the 1st inning up 4-0.

Acme came out hitting the ball as well and this one looked as if it was going to be a lot of fun! Three staright singles would load the bases for them, but McClane made a good play on a softly hit ball to tag out one of their runners near home plate for the first out. A single up the middle would score two runs and it was suddenly a 4-2 ASE lead. Their next two batters went down on strikes and after one full inning of play we led 4-2.

The top of the 2nd inning the bottom of our order started things off for us like they have the last few games. Gavin Ezell and Alex Heseman both singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. After a Leah Young strikeout, Jimmy Minks popped up to the 2nd baseman and once again our runners were off with the crack of the bat. And once again we got doubled up and our half of the inning was over. Acme could not manage to get anything going in the bottom of the 2nd and the score remained 4-2 heading into the 3rd inning.

Presely would get the rally going with a double and McClane would do the same to make it a 5-2 ASE lead. Tidus then singled to score McClane and Derek would single to score Tidus. Tristen would groundout to the 1st baseman but a throwing error would allow Derek to score for a 8-2 ASE lead. Daniel would groundout to the 1st baseman but Zach and Gavin singled to try and kick start another rally. Alex went down on strikes to end our half of the inning and we would lead 8-2. The umpires called the game due to the time limit and we had won the league title with the win. Great job ASE!

ASE blasts three home runs in 8-1 win over McDonalds!

Homerun

After not hitting the ball very good last night in a 5-5 tie against Forsgren, our kids came our hitting the ball big time tonight! We jumped on McDonalds in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back in this one. Jimmy Minks led off the game with an inside the park home run to give us a 1-0 lead. Presley Chitwood and McClane Moody would single to put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Tidus Smith them hit a ball to deep right field and hustled all the way around the bases for an inside the park home run and a 4-0 ASE lead. Derek Chitwood would then single and Tristen Evans would drive him in with a base hit to left field and just like that we had 5 runs with not a single out made.

The bottom of the 1st would see McDonalds start off with a double. Their next two batters would go down on strikes but their clean-up hitter woud single to score their first run of the game. McClane would snag a ground ball hit by their next batter and after one full inning of play we led 5-1. The top of the 2nd would see the red-hot hitting Zach Funmaker single to get the rally going. Daniel Hoffman would groundout to the 3rd baseman and Gavin Ezell continued to struggle at the plate by going down on strikes. Alex Heseman picked him up with a run scoring single to give us a 6-1 lead. Leah Young would go down swinging to end our half of the inning. All three batters McDonalds sent to the plate in the bottom of the inning went down on strikes, so we still led 6-1 after two full innings of play.

The 3rd inning would see us get a rally going again. Jimmy struckout to begin the inning but Presley hit a shot to deep left field and used a throwing error to come all the way around and score for another ASE home run. McClane would then step up and do the exact same thing and suddenly this one was a rout at 8-1. Tidus would single but Derek went down on strikes and Tristen grounded out to the 1st baseman to end our half of the 3rd. McDonalds tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the inning but Tidus made a good play on a sharp hit ball and McClane would tag a runner out trying to score to stop any chance they had of a rally. ASE wins their 10th game of the season 8-1 over McDonalds. The win sets up a game that could decide the league championship for us on Thursday night. We win against Acme and we are the league champs for the 7th time in the last 9 seasons. See you guys on Thursday night at 7:00pm.

ASE completes un-defeated league season with 4-2 win over Perspectives!

Gold Medal

Heading into this season, I never thought an un-defeated league season was possible with this young squad. But the kids have improved with each and every game and played very good defense. You can see the difference in a lot of the teams in the league and our team is we can play some defense and that is what has won us a lot of games this year. Last night would be the same ole story as many games this season. Our defense would come thru once again and lead the way.

In the top of the 1st we came right out hitting the ball. Jimmy Minks led off with a single to left field. Coach Jodie got greedy at 1st base and got Jimmy tagged out at 2nd as he was trying to stretch his hit into a double. Presley Chitwood would double to left field and McClane Moody would hit an inside the park home run, giving us a 2-0 lead. Tidus Smith would groundout to the shortstop and Tristen Evans would groundout to the 1st baseman to end our half of the inning up 2-0.

Perspectives came right back at us hitting the ball. Their first batter would groundout to Tidus, but then back-to-back singles would score a run and pull them within 2-1. Another groundout and a strikeout later, the inning was over and we clung to a 2-1 lead. The top of the 2nd would see Gavin Ezell lead off with an infield single. Gavin used an overthrow to advance to 2nd base and Daniel Hoffman would knock him in. Daniel would get thrown out at 1st base but did a good job putting the ball in play to score the run and give us a 3-1 lead. Zach Funmaker went down on strikes but Alex Heseman picked him up with an infield single. Jimmy would force Alex out at 2nd base to end our half of the inning still holding a 3-1 lead. The bottom half of the inning would see Perspectives load the bases with two outs, but Presley got us out of a jam with a good play at shortstop, throwing a strike to McClane to end the inning with us still on top 3-1.

The top of the 3rd we wanted to tack on a few more runs to extend our lead but Perspectives made a couple of good plays of their own to keep us from breaking the game open. Presley would lead off with a single but their shortstop made a great play on a very hard hit ball by McClane and Presley was forced out at 2nd base. Tidus went down on strikes but Tristen came thru with maybe his biggest hit of the season as he would single to score McClane for a 4-1 ASE lead. Gavin would end our half of the inning by striking out. The bottom of the 3rd our defense had to win this thing for us and hold on to the lead. Two doubles would pull Perspectives within 4-2. Their cleanup hitter would battle hard but go down on strikes. Tidus then made a good play on a hard hit ball and threw to McClane for the second out of the inning. McClane would then dive and catch a pop-up to end the inning and the game was called due to time limit. Our kids had somehow done it again! Great job ASE! Now it's on to the city tourney as we are the #1 seed from Goldtrap and get a 1st round bye in the tourney. We will not play until Monday, June 22nd @ 6pm. See you all at practice on Wednesday.
