Westfield Dominated in Loss to Minnechaug

The Westfield Bombers started 2019 on a bad note with a disappointing 6-1 loss Wednesday night versus Berry Division foe Minnechaug Falcons.  From the first whistle, Westfield was out-hustled, out-muscled, and out worked losing virtually every puck battle and having no response for the quicker, more mature Falcons.  Minnechaug stifled the Bomber defense time and time again pinning Westfield in their own zone.  When they were able to make outlet passes to forwards, Westfield continually fumbled and turned the puck over.  To add an already bad formula, the Bombers lack of discipline was evident where they took 9 penalties in the game to Minnechaug's 2 resulting in 2 Falcon power play goals.  CJ Czarnacki did what he could to keep the game close but also fell victim to bad puck luck with a couple of tough bounces and deflections ending up in his net.

The final nail came in the Bombers lack of execution where they were unable to cash in on no less than 4 breakaways.  Overall, a difficult game for all involved (except Minnechaug) as was evident with the crowd heading for the exits early in the 3rd period.

Minnechaug was led by forward Steve Mushenko who scored once and assisted on 2 other goals.  Linemates Matt Kowal and Dominic Terzi had a goal and an assist each.  Jordan Torres (short-handed), Aidan Paquette, and Marco Agruso rounded out the Falcons scoring.  The Bombers goal was scored on the power play in the 1st period on a slap shot from the point by Gavin Carzello.

The Bombers will try to put this one behind them quickly as they prepare for the busiest part of their schedule where they play 5 games in 12 nights.  Next on tap is an always huge division game against rival Longmeadow next Tuesday night at 8:30 at the Olympia in West Springfield.
