Dutch Fork High’s Murphy Holloway was selected Monday as the Class 4A boys player of the year, by the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association.
Holloway, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, committed to Mississippi during a season in which he is averaging 24 points per game. Holloway leads the Silver Foxes with 13 rebounds per game and is shooting 60 percent from the field.
In Class 3A boys, Camden senior guard Sterling Council was named the player of the year. The 6-0 Council averaged 21.3 points per game for the Bulldogs, who played Greer in a first-round playoff game Tuesday night.
Calhoun County’s Alshon Jeffrey was named the boys Class A player of the year after leading the two-time defending state champion Saints to an unbeaten regular season. Calhoun County enters tonight’s first-round playoff game against Chesterfield on a state-record 73-game winning streak.

WESTSIDE’S MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Westside 6-foot-4 freshman forward Fredricus Mattison should get plenty of attention if the Rams make any kind of playoff run. The first step is at Irmo on Wednesday.
As Mattison has grown into a key contributor — along with sophomore forward Mike Matthews — the Rams’ guards have increasingly looked to Mattison more each week. Mattison averaged 11 points and nine rebounds against T.L. Hanna in two wins this season.
“He’s very good right now offensively, his offensive skills have improved tremendously,” Rams coach Paul Brown said. “The first of the year we didn’t go inside at all. And now our guards look for him. As a matter of fact, there are a couple of times we almost force it in.”
Flashing a sheepish smile, Brown said, “he’s a pretty complete player. I’m glad to have him for three more years-plus.”
