The 16u Jays made a nice run in the Antonia Agostinelli Memorial Baseball Tournament this past weekend.
In their first game Saturday morning, the Jays defeated Next Level Baseball 13-1 while accumulating 11 hits. Later on in the day, the Jays faced Baseball Warehouse and got a stellar performance from their own starting pitcher, James Silberger. Silberger was flawless for 7 innings by keeping Baseball Warehouse off the bases and throwing a perfect game while striking out 8 batters. The Jays' offense backed him with 16 hits and 7 runs.
On Sunday, the Jays were credited with a 7-0 victory over the LI Whalers and moved onto the Semi-Finals.
Facing Team Body Armour, the East Coast Jays had a defensive battle on their hands but they would prevail. The Jays' bats came alive and broke the 0-0 tie in the 5th inning by scoring 5 runs. East Coast would tack on another 4 runs in the top of the 7th and would only yield 1 run later that inning for a 9-1 win.
Going into the Championship Game, the Jays had only allowed 2 runs and scored 36 runs of their own over 3 games. However, the Jays' bats went uncharacteristically cold and couldn't manufacture any runs or shut down the Adirondack Heat. The Jays would lose 9-1.
Still an impressive showing against some tough teams. Congratulations to the 16u Jays!
