Nail-biter games were the rule in Stearns County League action – and a few of the results were a bit surprising. Elrosa’s 2-0 win over Lake Henry Sunday night closed out SCL action for this week, but it was just one of four SCL match-ups on Sunday with a low score. That game was more in line with Saturday games at New Munich (an 11-1 seven-inning win over Farming; and Roscoe’s 13-2 seven-inning win over Elrosa. The Saints rebound from that loss for the win over Lake Henry. Brady Weller, who singled in the third inning, took second on a wild pitch. He was moved to third by Austin Imdieke’s sacrifice bunt (Imdieke reached on an error) and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Kuefler. Ethan Vogt, the winning pitcher helped his own cause grounding into a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning. That ground ball enabled Matt Schmitz, who had doubled, to score. When Lake Henry attempted to double up Vogt, the throw went wide and Schmitz scored. On the mound, however, was where Vogt was shining. His complete game effort resulted in 11 strikeouts and one walk. The Lakers first 11 batters went down in order. Jason Kampsen snapped that string with passed the shortstop. Kampsen would have one more hit. He was on third after his second hit, when Lake Henry had their best chance to score. With one out his single and two Elrosa errors loaded the bases. Vogt got the next batter to hit into a short-second-first double play to end the inning. Shane Kampsen’ eight inning double gave Lake Henry its last real threat, but the Lakers could not get him in. Aaron Savelkoul gave up eight hits in the loss.
