Beer Brawl: Lavelle's Taphouse Fights Til End, HooDoo Lands Haymaker
Fairbanks, AK – Under cloudy skies and the pleasant aroma of BBQ in the air, Lavelle's Taphouse continued their rivalry on Father's Day, Sunday, June 17, 2018 at West Valley Field.
It was a close affair until the end when the Brewers rallied in the 6th inning – the final score settling at 14-9.
After pitching for the Alaska Goldpanners on Wednesday night, future FAABL hall-of-famer Christoph Falke (L, 3-1) took the hill for the Tappers. His opponent RHP Billy Cain started for the Crew.
Throughout the game, the Brewers found a way to consistently score off Falke, scoring at least one run in each inning. The Tappers opted to score in bunches.
HooDoo had the lead heading into the top of the 4th inning, 5-2. But Lavelle's Taphouse surged a rally and placed five runs on the board, earning the advantage at 7-5.
The Brew Crew continued to chip away and scored a run in each of the next two innings to tie the score at seven.
With victory within reach, Lavelle's Taphouse jumped on RHP Cain for two runs, forcing RHP Jerome Johnson to come in to relief.
Down by two, a rebuttal was needed. The Crew responded in the bottom of the 6th with a lead double by RF Mike Zuniga and the Brewers were off!
Eventually, seven runs would score, highlighted by a loud bases-loaded, 3-RBI double by SS Dustin Avara.
With the score at 14-9, Lavelle's Taphouse never recovered. Jerome Johnson shut the door with a scoreless 7th inning.
Brewers Dustin Avara went 3-for-3, 3 RBI's, 2B, 2 runs, and HBP. Tapper's Gordon Dufseth also 3-for-3, with 2 RBI's, 2B, and 3 runs.
WHAT'S THAT SMELL?
Manny and the Pirates (who played the previous game) cooking up the good stuff... BBQ! Well known for his skills on the grill, Manny filled the air with the sweet smoke of brats and burgers.
