Management team under fire again as Frosty Dawgs-lite comes up short

June 19, 2008 – 07:25 AM
In one of the wildest pre-game weather calls in the history of all of softball, the Frosty Dawgs ended up playing last night at Jones Beach following a management call that the games were likely cancelled.

After instructing all players -- including those at a far distance of 45 minutes or more -- to go to the field at 7:45pm, the skies opened up in Wantagh -- as eyewitnessed by the CCD from his front window.  After confirming monsoon conditions with coach Freddo -- whose car was stuck in a 4-foot puddle at Massapequa -- and that Yankee Stadium was in a rain delay with the tarp still on -- management decided to contact roster players that games were likely off at it was Hurricane Katrina conditions outside one hour prior to game time.  After plowing through puddles to get to the park later on, Jones Beach was in immaculate condition -- likely the only game in town.

If not for John "Woody" Woodworth, who properly reported to the field, no Frosties would have showed.  A call from Woody and then a call to the league later -- the Frosty Dawgs were playing 9:30pm at Jones.  Unfortunately, those at a long distance -- AJ and Nicky -- and Musalo who was not -- could not turn around and the Frosty Dawgs scrambled for a full squad which put on a valient effort, falling two runs short of a good Aqua Lounge squad.   If not for our own defensive lapses by Frosty regulars, the game would have gone our way.  Tom "the Chair" Frem hit 3 jacks, the CCD actually hit one, Brian "Casino" Goerke hit another one and went 5-6 on the night.  Hitting was generally good all around with solid performances by Tom "GQ" Kalina, Anthony "Boom Boom" Bruno and a very notable night by rescue dawg Mike M.

Well, we learned something.  Jones Beach handles massive downpours pretty good.  Even though your street may be flooded, the field soaks it up.  Management is changing their policy towards rainouts as a show up unless the crappy rainout hotline actually updates and says the games are cancelled.

Next games are TBA for now as our scheduled opponent is no longer in the league.  Stay tuned.
