Welcome to HAWK Wrestling! Here is some basic information about our club! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at hawksmembership@gmail.com.
ELEMENTARY WRESTLING: Our first session of elementary wrestlers (K-5) begins the second week of school in September, and they practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:00 - 7:30 through the end of October. Our winter sessions are approximately Nov. - Jan. 20, Jan 25- spring break, but they switch to Mondays and Wednesdays due to MS and HS teams in season. The spring session is approx. spring break until Memorial Day. Our sessions are $75 each or you can join for $250 for the entire year, and include a club t shirt. Please consult our website calendar in late August for updates and exact dates.
MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Runs from Sept. thru May; Tues/Wed/Thurs from 4:30 - 6:00 at the Hickory HS Wrestling room. MS wrestlers are walked over to the HS with the MS coach. Fees for MS/HS are flat $200 for the year and include our club t shirt. Once MS and HS team wrestling seasons begin, MS/HS "club" does not run, so please consult our website calendar or ask your coach for those exact dates. You do not need to be a member of "club" to be on the MS/HS teams; but then you are only able to practice during their seasons.
Once you register for any age group, you will be put on our mailing list, and we will email with reminders of tournaments, etc. All wrestlers receive a club t shirt with their paid registration.
You can join online through our website, on the main page, right hand side. All wrestlers are required to have a USA Wrestling card, as we are a USA club, for insurance purposes. The link to USA Wrestling is on the main page of our website as well. You will need your USA number to register for the club online, and please then bring a copy to practice.
Our practices consist of warm up exercises, drills, technique, live wrestling and usually a fun game at the end of practice (elementary school). All practices are held at Hickory HS Wrestling room. The entrance is at the back of the school, near the softball fields.
Tournaments are optional; however, we encourage wrestlers to go in order to test their skills and get mat time. We will go to many as a team! We post them on our website, and also announce them at practice. Our coaches pick some to go to, but you are also welcome to go to more on your own.
Our club also has fun events together, such as nights at Buffalo Wild Wings, pot luck get togethers and we watch the NCAA Wrestling finals together. In January, we are featured at an ODU wrestling match! We encourage wrestlers to participate in camps throughout the summer, and we give that information out in the spring.
