Tornadoes Win Opener, 66-60

Malden: The Malden Golden Tornadoes kicked off the 2015-16 season in the win column with a home win over Winchester 66-60 Friday night. The Tornadoes play a number of home games early in the season and Coach Don Nally knows how important it is to get off to s good start.

'We play a lot of home games early and, with such a young team, I think we need to get the majority of these early home games to have confidence down the stretch.'

Malden returns just five players from last year with only two having played significant minutes last year: two-time GBL all-star senior Mark Rogers and junior starting forward Nate Ilebode. Both played key roles in the opener. Both scored 12 points on the night to lead the Tornadoes and Ilebode added a game high 12 rebounds.
The Tornadoes will also be paced by three sophomores anxious to get their feet wet this season: forwards Fern Berard and Isaiah Likely and pint guard Danny Perez. Berard scored 11 points and 7 rebounds on Friday night, Likely scored 6 points off the bench with all coming in the 4th quarter and Perez chipped in with 7 points 4 assists and no turnovers while manning the point.
Malden returns to action this Monday night when they take on Boston English. Game time is 7pm
