Medford: So far, the only thing consistent about the Malden High Boy's basketball team is their inconsistency. After outplaying and defeating perennial GBL power Cambridge at home on Friday, Malden shot 24% from the floor and fell to Medford 54-38. The loss drops the Tornadoes to 6-5 on the season and 2-3 in the GBL.
"We just might as well not have gotten off the bus tonight." a dejected Malden coach Don Nally said after the game. "Our starters failed on both ends of the floor, set a lousy tempo for e game and our bench wasn't much better."
Medford jumped on the Tornadoes early, jumping out to an 18-10 lead after one quarter. The Mustangs used two different 8-0 runs to take the eight point lead after one quarter. After a decent second quarter closed the gap to 5 points at the half, 25-20, Malden fell apart in the second half. The 38 points were a season low for the Tornadoes, who also were without a scorer in double digits for the first time all year.
Malden now has a week off to lick their wounds before a return engagement with Everett next Tuesday night in Malden.
