MLB Detroit Tigers scout guest speaker at Maryland RBI baseball dinner
Many thanks to MLB Detroit Tigers area scout Brian Boles for guest speaking at the Maryland RBI team dinner! His presentation on the 5 Tools and the things that get players noticed by scouts and recruiters was terrific advice, and the learning was timely and valuable for our players, parents and staff.
Thank you parents for allowing your child to play baseball this year. We all agree that Maryland RBI Baseball is something special. Our first emphasis is always on cultivating and enabling a knowledgeable staff to help our sons expand their understanding of the great game of baseball and advance their opportunities in the sport. And always manage to have a lot of fun learning together.
We are blessed not just with great players but also with terrific coaches. From Day 1 all those 5 years ago when many of us began this journey together, and those who have joined since, our goal has been to teach, not win. We win as a team and lose as a team. And we are all here because we love baseball. Our staff share this philosophy and emphasize these concepts throughout the season. And more often than not, we are usually the better team because of it with plenty of winning along the way.
We need to thank a few people individually who helped make the team dinner possible. Our team mom, Jen Stanbery, who spent numerous hours gathering information and organizing affairs. Thanks Jen and the staff of Armadillo's Restaurant for accommodating us.
We would also like to thank our special guest, Coach Brian Boles of the Major League Baseball Detroit Tigers organization as our guest speaker.
Coach Boles has experienced the sport at every level as an accomplished player, coach and scout. Coach Boles generously agreed to share with us tonight some of his thoughts about baseball and how young players can maximize their opportunities.
In addition to working with the Detroit Tigers as the Maryland area scout, Coach Boles is the Director of the Bill Cosby Community Center at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He is the Instructor/Owner of PRO ACT Baseball Training providing hitting instruction to area prospects and running camps and clinics. He was formerly a scout for Black College Baseball.com and Head Baseball Coach and Teacher at Saint Frances as well as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director. Coach Boles also served as an Assistant Coach at UMBC and Teacher at the Unseld School.
He finished his undergraduate degree at Morgan State University with a Bachelor in Sociology and attended Elizabeth City State University and Chesapeake College. As a player in college, Coach Boles was an All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association performer at Elizabeth City State after transferring and receiving MD JUCO honors at Chesapeake College.
A graduate of the Major League Baseball Scout Development Program, we were very fortunate to have Coach Boles join us and bring what he has learned and his passion for the sport to share with us. Thanks, Coach Boles!
