The A's won the 18+ Division after ultimately taking two of three postseason games from the runner-up Angels in the postseason tournament. The A's beat the Angels 7-1 and 11-1 in the championship round to capture the title.
The A's had coasted into the postseason as the #1 seed after finishing the regular season with a 14-2 record. In the second round of the tournament, the A's faced off with the 4th seeded Angels. The Angels came in hot after knocking off the #2 seed Banditos the previous week, and beat the A’s 2-1 in an epic 12-inning battle.
This sent the A's to an elimination game against #2 seed Los Banditos the next day. This game featured several lead changes but the A's eventually pulled ahead and won 8-6, setting the stage for an A’s-Angels rematch in the championship.
The A’s had won games in 2018 using a formula of teamwork and contributions from every player on the roster, and something felt missing down the stretch after leadoff man Yuki Kawahara moved to New York. The A's were able to convince Kawahara to return for the final championship showdown, and he made his presence known often throughout the day. With the A's down 1-0 in the 7th inning of Championship Game 1, Kawahara singled, proceeded to steal 2nd and 3rd base, and scored on a sac fly to tie the game. This provided the spark the A's needed, as their bats awoke in the 8th and 9th innings resulting in a 7-1 win. A's starter Max Sellman pitched a complete game, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, 2 walks, 10 strikeouts.
This forced Championship Game 2 due to the double elimination format. Kawahara stayed hot, going 3-4, 2B, 3B, R, with 4 RBI, SB, and SF. Sellman continued his effort on the mound from the morning by starting and throwing three shutout innings to open the game. Andrew Wolfe relieved Sellman and finished the combined 2-hitter en route to the A's 11-1 win.
