DOs:

  • Do let the coaches and team parent know if your child could not practice or play.
  • Do invest in protective sports glasses if your child needs to use glasses.  Prescription glasses may be judged as a safety concern by the referee which would make your child ineligible to play in the game (NFHS 2015-16 Basketball Rules - Rule 3 Section 7).
  • Do label your child's drink bottle with their name to avoid confusion and having others drink from the wrong bottle.
  • Do help clean up the gym after games and practices.
  • Do have fun and enjoy your child's games.  Remember this is about them learning and loving the game of basketball.

DON'Ts:

  • Don't wear a red or yellow shirt during practices.  The pinnies used for scrimmages are either red or yellow.
  • Don't wear jewelry or watches during practices and games.  This may be deemed a safety concern by the referee (NFHS 2015-16 Basketball Rules - Rule 3 Section 7).
  • Don't have your child wear their basketball shoes when coming to the gym.  Have them wear outdoor shoes, sandals or flip flops to avoid bringing dirt, salt and/or water on the gym floor. Slippery floors are a safety hazard and could lead to game and/or practice cancellations.
  • Don't coach from the sideline during practices and games.  Coaching from the sideline does not help and just confuses the player.
  • Don't drop off your child more than 15 minutes prior to practices.  Make sure you supervise any siblings during practices and games.
