Board Members needed

Windham Youth Volleyball Association is looking for a couple of new board members.

Open positions are general board members.

WYVBA has existed for over ten years and we plan to keep this going for another ten. Neither WMS nor JSMS offers volleyball at the middle school level, so this program fills that void and prepares local kids for high school volleyball. The time commitment is very small, but the need for the program is big!

Please reach out to Chuck Fleck or Christine Williams if you are interested or have any questions about this youth volleyball program.

Fall 2023 Newsletter & FAQ

First off, I hope you are as excited for the season as we are.  Volleyball is a great sport and can be a life long sport.  Many of our alumni go on the play in college and well into their adult years.  WYVBA is primarily a feeder program for the Windham High School teams.  We teach the basics of the game and quickly move into the strategy and tactics most used for offense and defense.

Our practices and most of our scrimmages will be in the Windham Middle School gym right after school.  Practices are most week days from 2:00-4:00 except when the high school has a match.  Our first practice is next Monday 9/11.  We will review your registration and double check the spelling and sizing for the shirts.  Once the shirts are ordered, it usually takes a couple of weeks for them to come in.

We will be keeping track of attendance.  This is to ensure both your parents and us know where you are.  You won't be allowed to roam the halls or go to Corsetti's during practice times.

FAQ Section:
What Do I need to bring to practice?
You should wear clothes that you'd wear to gym class.  Gym shoes(VB shoes are good), tee-shirt, shorts (or spandex, if you prefer).  Bring a water bottle with your name on it and a towel.  Knee pads are highly recommended and can be readily found at Dick's Sporting Goods, Olympia, or Amazon (of course).  Lastly, a good attitude and willingness to learn something new.
What if I am coming from JSMS or someplace outside RSU#14?
That's totally fine.  Just let us know ahead of time what your schedule is and when you plan to arrive.  There isn't any penalty for travel time.  Parents usually start a car pool once we get started.
What if I'm home sick from school the day of a practice?
If you stay home from school, please do not come to practice.  Even if it's a scrimmage.  If you are too sick for school, you are too sick to play.
What if I have to leave early for an appointment?
That's fine.  Just let us know ahead of time.
What if I need to stay after and work with a teacher?
That's fine as well, just let us know what your schedule is.

It's primarily up to the players to inform the coaches of what's going on.  Parents can be there as a backup, but we really want the kids to be responsible for their schedule, if possible.

What if I forget to tell you that I'm going to be late?
If you forget to let us know and miss a practice or scrimmage, you will be marked as a No Call, No Show, until we find out what's going on.  Too many NCNS and we start reaching out to parents to see what's going on.

Practice is where you work the hardest and prove what you can do, scrimmages are when you show it to the world.

What is the address to send in my payment?
If you haven't sent in your payment yet, please do so before next week.

When will the scrimmages happen?
Scrimmages usually happen during our practice time and are scheduled towards the end of September and October.  We have to wait for the other programs to get up and running for the season.  It also allows our shirts to come in.

Where can I find the schedule?
The schedule can be found on our website.  www.WindhamYouthVolleyball.com

I'm sure there are more items I could cover, this is just the low hanging fruit.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you,

Coach Chuck
