DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS ...
You've just been hired as the manager of what appears to a team loaded with incredible talent. But looking at the rosters of your opponents, you see that they, too, have exceptional personnel.
You have five exceptional starting pitchers who have carried extreme workloads historically. Do you truly need each of them, or could you live with a lesser starter in the number five spot, and deal that hurler to bring in a heavy hitting corner outfielder to provide lineup protection for your star thirdbaseman?
Management has acquired two standout catchers, and their injury history indicates that they may represent slightly more than one fulltime backstop. Do you deal one for the closer you need to significantly upgrade your bullpen and give you the boost you need to overtake the elite teams you face?
Your shortstop is a gem offensively, but less than brilliant in the field. Can you survive with his less than stellar defense or do you need to send him packing to bolster the D?
These could be the quandaries you will face in your new role as manager in the ALL-TIME GREATS FANTASY BASEBALL LEAGUE. Are you up to the challenge?
ANYONE WHO HAS SIGNED UP OR WHO IS PLANNING TO SIGN UP MAY FILL OUT A SECOND APPLICATION IF YOU WISH TO HAVE TEAMS IN EACH LEAGUE. IF YOU HAVE FRIENDS WHO MAY ENJOY THIS LEAGUE, PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO REGISTER. DRAFT WILL BE ON MAY 27TH.

WE'RE GLAD TO HAVE YOU AS A VISITOR!
Here is a chance to manage your own team comprised of MLB Hall of Famers, plus other MLB standouts and an assortment of Negro League legends, Caribbean stars and Japanese standouts. Go to the online forms and fill out the application to get started. You can manage two teams, one in each league and trade players with other managers. You can make managerial decisions at designated points in the season. The only thing you CANNOT do is trade with yourself. Based on your choice of team style, the computer will draft your team, and then your managerial acumen comes into play. Players are rated based on their seven (7) most productive seasons. Some players (Babe Ruth and Negro Leaguers Ted Radcliffe, John Donaldson and Martin Dihigo) are pitchers as well as position players. Dihigo, in fact, plays all nine positions.
Games will be played on the commissioner's computer and posted on this page.
Trading periods will be outlined once the teams are constructed.
GUIDELINES. RULES - AND OTHER SUCH STUFF.
All-Time Greats Fantasy League
The purpose of this league is to enable participants to gain a greater appreciation and knowledge of stars of the past.
Players in the league are taken from the Professional Baseball Hall of Fame and other sources. HOFers comprise the majority of the personnel, with players from the Negro Baseball Leagues (c. 1880 through 1950), Japanese Hall of Famers, Caribbean/Latin standouts (including Olympic medalists) and a large number of past Major League players who were consistent all-stars or near misses for induction into the Hall of Fame.
Stocking the Teams
The draft that builds each team's roster will be conducted by the Strat-O-Matic baseball program utility The program has the capability to re-evaluate each team prior to each round and rearrange the draft order for that round so as to ensure teams are as evenly matched as possible. Managers can impact their team's draft by specifying which areas the computer should favor throughout the draft.
The goal of the Fantasy League is to actually have two leagues of eight (8) teams each. Toward this end, managers may have a team in each league, although the ideal setup would be sixteen (16) managers, each with one team.
With sixteen (16) teams, each club will have thirty (30) players under contract and each one will be active for each game.
There will be no interleague play. If we have eight (8) teams in each league, we will have a 154 game season, playing eleven (11) home games and eleven (11) road games against each opponent.
Nope, ain't gonna happen in this league. Not now - not ever. Besides, most of these pitchers could hit better than today's major leaguers. (Only a very slight exaggeration.)
Each manager will have a simple form to complete for managerial instructions, with the computer basing its decisions off those instructions. Managers will be permitted to submit revised instructions during designated periods.
You may trade players with other teams. If you have two teams, you CANNOT trade between those two teams. It is not permissible to trade a player to another team and then have that team trade that player to your other team. That's a sneaky circumvention of the rules and it will not be allowed. So there.
Cost of Participation
Since there is no prize money involved, there is no reason for you to shell out any money. So what you ask, does the winner get? He gets the chance to say Nyah, nyah, nyah .. or whatever other insulting taunt he wishes to use.... to everybody else.
