Elida Thunder - Champions of Character

On the Elida Thunder, we believe that it is more important to be Champions of Character than to win championships.  We learn and practice attitudes, traits, and actions of champions.  Our team goal is to achieve excellence and win championships.  But, to do so, we must first become champions of character.

On our team, a Champion of Character is an individual who carries the attitudes, traits, and actions of a champion both on and off the field.  We believe these characteristics can be taught, learned, practiced, and refined.  We impress these ideas continually through daily huddles, words of the week, and Character Night guest speakers.

Attitudes of a Champion

We focus on three attitudes of a champion: Grattitude, Humility, and Enthusiasm.  Attitude is a choice.  We choose whether or not we approach practice, games, school, or life in general with a good, positive attitude.

Traits of a Champion

There are certain traits that we see in people of success: Discipline, Persistence, and Belief.  We want to grow these characteristics within us.  Having the traits of a champion is not merely a choice.  It takes work.  It takes a "buy in" both mentally and physically to build these traits within yourself.

Actions of a Champion

Finally, merely having a good attitude and character traits are not enough.  To be a Champion of Character we must use our gifts.  We finish with action: Serve, Encourageand Love.  Sharing our gifts and using them for good is what brings a team together. It is what defines EXCELLENCE.
