09/17/09: The HAWKS improved to 2-0 by Shutting out NYPD Pizza on Thursday in their home opener. The HAWKS played stellar defense, and took advantage of 5 hits with some very aggressive base running to obtain victory by the mercy rule in 4 innings of play. Taylor Sawyer gunned down a runner attempting to steal third with a rocket throw, and Cody Gailey recieved the missile, and made the tag with warp speed. Lucas Windham was the starting pitcher, and dominated NYPD by allowing only one hit, while facing 11 batters in three innings of action. Jake Bazzle closed the show in the 4th inning allowing no hits. Offensive leaders were Cameron Lanham, Zach Sweeney, and Lucas Windham all going 1 for 2 with a walk. Jake Bazzle also went 1 for 2, and Cody Gailey went 1 for 1 with a walk. The HAWKS see action at home again on Monday by hosting Sonitrol from Mt. Pleasant.

09/15/09: The First Citizens HAWKS defeated Residential Mortgage 10-4 in their season opener in Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. Jake Bazzle got the HAWKS offense rolling with a 2 RBI single in the top of the first, and the HAWKS never trailed. Bazzle was also the starting pitcher, and surrendered only one hit in three innings. Lucas Windham closed the game, and surrendered only one hit as well. Offensive leaders for the game were Jake Bazzle who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, and Zach Sweeney who went 2-4 with 2 RBIs. Sweeney, the HAWKS closing catcher also gunned down two runners attempting to steal third.
