Awards Night was held on August 5th, 2009 at the Church...
The Good Shepherd Hockey awards presentation was held on Wednesday, August 5th in the Fellowship Hall.
The Sharks wore their game jerseys and coach Angelo & George presented the team with their championship trophys.
As an added bonus, Tyler's dad Tom presented each of the boys with a replica Newsday cover of our championship along with a DVD of our championship season.
Coach Angelo was thrilled to see the team together one last time - and thanked the players and their families for making the season so special. He ended the night by wishing everyone future hockey success....telling them all it was a pleasure coaching them to the championship.......
We Are The Champions...We Are The Champions...
We Are The Champions.....
Today, the Good Shepherd Sharks Hockey team became the Good Shepherd 2008 / 2009 Junior Hockey Champions…..the coaches are very proud of the Sharks players - and want to thank the Sharks parents, families, and friends - who supported our team from October to the end of April. What an awesome season - what an awesome game - what awesome memories
Before the game began, the Sharks coaches had the players and coaches from both teams meet at the center of the deck for a photo with the Berry Cup. Both teams worked so hard throughout the season to get to this point and both teams showed tremendous respect for one another - Before the game (with the photo), during the game (no penalties), and after the game (with the end of season handshake). It is very rare that you will see a hockey game played without any penalties being called. And if you consider this was a playoff hockey game - game two of the finals - and not a single player on either team was called for a penalty - it just goes to show you how much the boys have learned about hockey, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship this season - great job boys!
To the game – we have to first state that we were missing a second line player today - Kevin was making his communion at St. Joseph’s Church in Ronkonkoma (Congrats Kevin) - we really missed Kevin - and we had to juggle the lineup for the second and third lines. The game began just like it did last week - with both goalies making fantastic saves - both John for the Gray Wolves and Stephen for the Sharks. But Vincent broke the scoreless tie scoring a third line goal to make the score 1–0. Nick C. then scored a second line goal to give the Sharks a 2–0 lead. But the Gray Wolves fought back to make the score 2–1 after two periods. Nick T. then scored a first line goal (marking the first time all three lines have scored in the same game for the Sharks since the Thanksgiving tournament) to make the score 3–1. Once again, the Gray Wolves fought back and made the score 3–2 (the same score as last week’s game). The scored stayed that way until the final minute of the game. In the final minute, the Gray Wolves pulled their goalie for an extra player to try and tie the game. However, the Sharks forced a face-off deep in the Gray Wolves zone and they had to put their goalie back in net. But that didn’t matter - because Chris sealed the victory and the Championship for the Sharks scoring off the face-off making the final score 4–2.
After shaking hands, the Sharks began their Championship celebration. They raised the cup up high and took individual players photos with the cup as the coaches introduced each player. The celebration then moved off the deck. It was great to see the boys smiling faces as the celebrated with silly string and party poppers while eating cup cakes, cookies, and drinking apple juice (sorry – they are too young for champagne). It was just great to see the boys celebrating with their friends and teammates - making memories that will last a lifetime (I hope all the parents got some good pictures)
It was a special season for all of us - one that the coaches will never forget - and we want to congratulate each and every player. You played like champions all season long and now we can officially call you champs - because We Are The Champions - Sharks – 2008 / 2009 Good Shepherd Junior Hockey Champions – Congrats boys – the hard work paid off – and you deserve to be champs!

That means the Sharks will play the Blue Knights and the Gray Wolves will play the North Stars in a single elimination semi-final playoff game on Saturday 4/4/09.
The winners will face off in the finals beginning 4/18/09.
Sharks Win Semi-final Playoff Game - We're going to the finals
Sharks win - Sharks win - We're going to the finals
What a great game.....after having a week off for having the best regular season record - therefore recieving a playoff bye - the Sharks came out flying in their single elimination semi-final game against the Blue Knights. The Sharks scored 5 playoff goals as the Shark's defense - led by our goalie Stephen - recorded a post season shutout.
The Sharks goals came in bunches. Our first playoff goal was scored Danny on a slap shot from the point. Nick T. scored the second goal of the game. Chris scored the games third goal giving the Sharks a 3-0 lead. Our second line got on the scoreboard when Nick C. scored. And Nick T. closed out the scoring with his second goal of the game and 4th goal for the first line.....giving the Sharks a 5-0 win.
Both coaches are very proud of each and every player on this team...each one of you contributed to our team effort - which led to our victory.

Thank you - Coach Angelo
Put it in the books - the Sharks finish the regular season with 13 wins and 2 losses
It was a great 2008 - 2009 regular season for the Sharks. The Sharks finished the season with a 3-1 victory over the Northstars...giving them 13 wins and two losses. Nick C. got the games first goal, Chris scored a shorthanded goal, and Nick T. closed out the regular season scoring with the Sharks third goal of the game. Stephen was back in net and played a strong game as the entire Sharks team played awesome.
While the Sharks achieved many milestones this season, the playoffs are about to begin...and it is a new season for eveyone. Our goal is to finish what we started and continue our team play throughout the playoffs.
We will practice next week as we get ready for our single elimination game on 4/4/09.
Coach Angelo and Coach George are extremely proud of the boys and the way they played this season.

Way to go Sharks......
In our 14th game of the regular season, the Sharks won for the 12th time as they played different positions and had a lot of fun. It started on the very first shift when Chris, who has been in goal the past several weeks, got back on the scoring sheet scoring the first goal of the game. Nick T. followed with two goals of his own. Nick C. added a hat trick scoring three goals. And Kevin scored a great goal - and has now scored in three games in a row.
All of the Sharks players played great in different positions. Tyler, our 6-year old third line defenseman, played awesome in goal recording his first ever victory in net. Stephen, our regular goalie - who just returned from the injured list, had a few assists playing out for the first time this season on the first line. Different players moved from offence to defence and from line to line. It was a fun game to watch and a fun game to coach. Great job boys....you were awesome!
With one game left on the regular season schedule, we will try to get everyone back into the positions they will be playing in the playoffs.....Stephen will return to net, Tyler to third line defence, Rickey and Chris to first line offense, etc.
Please see the schedule below.....after this game, we have a first round playoff bye (we will look to practice that day)....before the quarter final single elimination playoff game on April 4th. Please check your calendars....the team is counting on everyone showing up for that April 4th game. I need to know immediately if you have a conflict (email@example.com). If we win that game...there are no games on Holy Saturday (April 11th)....and the finals begin on April 18th....please see the schedule below.
Sharks Clinch First Place & First Round Playoff Bye - Congrats
When we started the season, we set a few goals. First and foremost, we wanted to teach the boys the correct way to play hockey (positioning), teach them about good sportsmanship and how it takes a team to win hockey games(teamwork and friendships). The Coaches feel we accomplished that goal.
Next we wanted to teach the boys to be competitive. The Sharks not only won the Turkey tournament, but just clinched first place with the best regular season record in the league - giving the Sharks a bye in the first round of the playoffs. So we met that goal.
Lastly, every team's goal when they join Good Shepherd hockey is to win the Berry Cup Championship. That goal is still ahead of us, and with hard work, is very attainable.
The Sharks have 2 regular season games left (March 14th & March 21st). After the first round playoff bye (March 28th), the Sharks will need just three wins to become Champs. First we will play the lowest ranking team left in the playoffs in a one round single elimination game to get to the finals. We need to prepare ourselves for that single elimination game which tentively will be played on April 4th (times to be determined). We need the entire team to be at that game. Again, we pride ourselves on teamwork....and hope nobody lets the team down. If we win that game, there will be no games on Holy Saturday (April 11th). That would mean the Finals would begin on April 18th in a best 2 out of 3 series for the Berry Cup Championship (Games are tentively scheduled for 4/18, 4/25 & 5/2).
Lets have fun our last two games and prepare for the playoffs.
Congrats to all Sharks players on coming in first place in the regular season!
*** Please keep these dates in mind....tentitive playoff dates - 4/4 (single round elimination to get to the finals), and 4/18, 4/25 & 5/2 (best 2 out of 3 series).
Sharks win and clinch first place with their 11th victory
The Sharks clinched first place in the Junior division of the Good Shepherd Hockey League with a 4-1 victory over the Islanders.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Sharks scored 3 first period goals. Nick T. (2 goals) scored seconds into the game and Rickey (1 goal) added another as the first line scored 3 goals in their first 2 shifts. Kevin (1 goal) scored another second line goal to complete the scoring for the Sharks. The third line played one of their best games of the season as Chris played goal and closed the door in a 4-1 victory.
The victory clinched first place for the Sharks.
The Coaches are very proud of how far this team has come....showing great Sportsmanship in each of our 11 victories.
We have 2 regular season games left. We plan on having a lot of fun in these last 2 games. Our regular goalie Stephen has recovered from his injuries and has been cleared to play - he will play defense next week. Chris will take off the pads and be back on the first line....And we will have Tyler make his first start in net this season...so lets go out there and have some fun!
Sharks edge the Gray Wolves in battle for first place
In a battle for first place, the Sharks defeated the second place Gray Wolves 3-2 to improve their record to 10 wins and just 2 losses.
Missing two first line players, the Sharks played a very entertaining hockey game - as Chris played goal and we mixed up all three lines. For the first time this season, the Sharks came back from two different Gray Wolf leads, finally taking the lead for the first time late in the third period - and holding on for the first place victory.
Down 1-0, Nick C. scored to tie the game at 1. Then down 2-1, Nick T. scored to tie the game at 2. Many of the freezing fans at the game felt the game would end in a tie....however the Sharks got the game winning goal from Kevin and won 3-2.
With only 3 games left in the regular season, the Sharks are one win away from clinching first place and a first round playoff bye. Lets keep up the great effort and have fun in our last three games.
Sharks play great...but don't score
For the first time this season, the Sharks were kept off the scoreboard and lost to the Saints 1-0. Both goalies and defenses played great. There were many scoring opportunities but the Sharks were unable to put one in the net...getting shutout for the first time this season...as the Saints goalie was just too tough today! The Sharks showed great effort and displayed great sportsmanship....but like we said in our team meeting...we can't win if we don't score....but we are proud of the way you tried.
This was the third and final time the Sharks will play the Saints during the regular season. The Sharks won the first two meetings - so our regular season record against the Saints is 2 wins and 1 loss......
For the season, the Sharks are still in first place with 9 wins and 2 losses after 11 games......
There are now 4 games remaining in the regular season.....with next week's game being against the second place Gray Wolves at 11am.
Sharks get to play after several weeks off.....and are victorious
Happy Valentines Day Everyone.....After only playing two hockey games in two months due to the bad winter weather, the Sharks were anxious to get back to their winning ways....and gave everyone a Valentines day gift with a 5-0 win. The Sharks played a strong game with Chris in net filling in for our injured goalie Stephen (concussion - get well Stephen). The team rallied around Chris who recorded his third shutout of the season (he had two shutouts in the Turkey Tournament)and beat a very tough North Star team. The North Stars are the only team to have beaten the Sharks this season....but today was a different game as the Sharks got a goal from Nick T. less than ten seconds into the game. From that point on, the Sharks took many shots....and Nick C. recorded his first hat trick of the season scoring the team's next three goals....Rickey finished off the scoring with his second goal of the season. Great job by everyone....especially since we have not played in several weeks. It is such a pleasure to coach these boys....they always show great sportsmanship and listen to instructions....playing their positions and making the team successful. Keep up the great work.
I also want to thank the many parents who helped with the boards and with clearing the snow. Your efforts were much appreciated!
Sharks win again
The Sharks came out flying after a week off, scoring 7 goals for the first time this season in a 7-2 victory. The Sharks improved their record to eight wins and one loss.
This week we had two players who scored two goals and three players who scored one goal. Goals were scored by Chris (2), Nick C. (2), Nick T, (1), Kevin (1), and Kyle (1). All of the boys played very well offensively and defensively....and most importantly, they all showed good sportsmanship.
Next week we have the early game......the coaches are very proud of all of the boys efforts....keep up the good work and the great sportsmanship.
The Sharks win in the first game of the new year (2009)...
After a month off, the Sharks improve their record to seven wins and only one loss with a 1-0 victory over the Islanders in the first game of 2009. The weather was cold and the snow was falling...but the boys had a lot of fun playing hockey.
The Sharks played awesome hockey...especially since we have not played since 12/13/08.....Stephen played great in goal posting the Sharks second shutout of the season. We were missing a first line and second line player...causing us to juggle the lineup and move the boys into various positions on different lines....and they all played great. Excellant job of defense by all.
Our offense had many opportunities....but the game was tied until late in the third period when the first line came through on a goal by Nick T.
Great job gentlemen....the coaches are very proud of everyone's efforts...especially since we have not played in a month and were missing a few players.

Why are there no dates on my schedule?
In other words, let’s look at what happened in week 5. We were scheduled to play the North Stars on Saturday November 15th....however all games were postponed due to rain....so now the week 5 schedule will be played Saturday November 22nd....the entire schedule was pushed out another week and we play the North Stars on the 22nd.
This scenerio can happen several times during a season (sometimes several weeks in a row due to snow).
Exciting, close game victory against the Gray Wolves.....Great Job Sharks!!!
The Sharks win for the sixth time in seven games....in another close 3-2 game.
Great job by all.....as the Sharks won another very exciting close hockey game giving us our sixth victory of the season.
All three lines played fantastic....great effort and defensive play.
Our first line did all the scoring today as we were short two players and had to mix up the second and third lines. First line goals by Chris and Nick T. (2 goals) gave the Sharks the offense they needed as the Sharks Goalie Stephen and the rest of the Sharks defense held off a very good Gray Wolf team from tieing the game late.
Sharks on a roll - win a close game - fifth win of the season....
The Sharks win for the fifth time this season....in a very close game.
This week's game featured two strong defenses as the Sharks battled the Saints....the Sharks first line did not score on the opening shift of the game for the first time this season. But the second line scored on it's first shift as Nick C. gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The Saints tied the score at 1 later in the first period. The game stayed tied until midway through the second period when Chris T. got the game winner. Last week Chris T. was in goal, but this week he was scoring on the first line as Stephen returned to the net and did a great job. The game stayed tight until Kyle scored his first goal of the season with just a minute left in the game - giving the Sharks a 3-1 victory, and a record of five wins, one loss, and no ties (5-1-0).
The Sharks coaches are very proud of the boys. Once again, we were short some players and had to move people onto different lines and into different positions....but the boys played great.
Coach Angelo handed out team Christmas cards after today's game...if you did not receive one, please see coach Angelo.

2008 Good Shepherd Turkey Tournament Champs
Hello Sharks players and parents:
Congrats to all the Sharks players on becoming the 2008 Good Shepherd Hockey League Thanksgiving Tournament Champs
In summary, the Good Shepherd Hockey League holds an annual Thanksgiving Weekend Hockey Tournament. It is a great time - a round robin tournament in which the winning team recieves movie tickets. Since the Sharks are currently in first place, we had a first round bye. We found out that three Sharks players were away for the weekend....including our Goalie Stephen and his father - assistant coach George. So Coach Angelo had Tyler's dad Tommy join him on the bench and Chris T. put on the pads and played goal. He did a great job in net leading the Sharks to two shutout victories (4-0 & 1-0) as the Sharks won the tournament.
All of the boys played awesome......and we had so much fun...something we will all remember for a long time.
The Sharks were to play the winner of the Blue Knights & Gray Wolves game in the semi-finals. The Blue Knights beat the Gray Wolves in a shootout so we played the Blue Knights and beat them 4-0. In what has seems to have become a Sharks tradition, our first line scored on our first shift of the game. Nick T. got the first goal. We got goals from all three lines in this game.....goals were scored by four different players.....as Vincent (3rd line), Ryan (3rd line), and Nick C. (2nd line - empty net goal) each scored making the final 4-0.
In the tournament finals, the Sharks played the second place team - the North Stars...who also won their semi final game 4-0 against the Saints and beat us last week - so we knew this was going to be a great game. Once again, for the seventh game in a row, the Sharks scored on their first shift of the game....as Nick T. scored his second goal of the tournament. Amazingly, that would be the only goal scored in the entire game. Both teams played exciting end-to-end hockey. It was such a great game to watch. The Sharks defense came up huge as Chris T. made a game saving save with just a few minutes left. From there, the great Sharks Defense did the rest leading the team to victory. The Sharks scored 5 goals in the tournament and did not give up a single goal. Great job gentleman! What is most impressive is the way everyone stepped up and played different positions and on different lines in the absense of three of our players. That is great teamwork!
In the first third of the season, our team has 4 wins, 1 loss, and has won the Thanksgiving Tournament. We could not be prouder! However, there is a lot more hockey to play, more to learn, and lots more to do!
This week we enter the second third of the season...playing the Saints on Saturday December 6th at 11am.
Sharks suffer first loss of the season
On what was arguably the coldest day of the year, the Sharks suffered their first defeat of the season by a score of 3-2....in a very well played game against a very good team - the North Stars. The boys played great and I am very proud of their efforts even in a loss. They all showed great sportsmanship and built some team character today. They have to keep in mind that hockey is fun...win or lose.
Getting to the game, the Sharks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.....the first line scored the opening goal on their first shift for the fifth time in five games. Nick T. scored. The third line also scored on their first shift. Kevin got his first hockey goal of the season, and the Sharks were ahead 2-0.
Stephen played strong in net....however, the Sharks just could not hold onto the lead - and lost for the first time this season....most importantly - the Sharks showed good sportsmanship after our first loss.
As we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Sharks are still in first place with 4 wins and 1 loss.
Happy Thanksgiving to all Shark players and their families. Enjoy the holiday.
Sincerely, The Sharks Coaches
Fourth victory in as many tries
The Sharks won for the fourth time in a row....
This week, the Sharks fell behind for the first time this season. Early in the first shift of the game, the Blue Knights scored. But the Sharks kept their composure and came right back as Nick T. scored on a great pass from Chris T. tieing the score at 1. This marks the fourth time this season that the first line scored on the very first shift of the game.
The second line then came on strong and also scored on their first shift. Second line goals by Christian (his first of the season) and Nick C. (3rd goal this season) made the score 3-1.
The Sharks then took a 5-1 lead with two more goals by the first line. Nick T. got his second goal of the game (6th goal of the season) and Danny also scored (his second of the season).
Later in the game, the Sharks got their first goal of the season by the third line as Ryan scored his first goal making the final score 6-1. The third line continues to impress with their solid play.
This game showed great team effort by all of the boys. The Sharks got solid goaltending by Stephen S. and scored goals on all three lines for the first time this season.
The coaches are very proud of the boys as they continue to work together and get better each week. Once again we want to remind all parents to feel free to reach out to either coach if you have any questions or concerns.
Sharks earn their third victory of the season
The Sharks won for the third time this season with a 5-0 win in a game that had many firsts....
- Once again our first line scored on our first shift of the game as Ricky K. scored his first goal of the season.
- The second line also scored on their first shift as Nick C. scored his first two goals of the season.
- Later in the game, Peter scored his first ever goal.
- Chris T. finished the scoring recording his third goal in as many games.
- Stephen S. was in goal to record our team's first shutout.
Great job by all of the Sharks players. The boys are really understanding their position and have really grasped the hardest rule in hockey - offsides/touching up. The team is playing so well, it is hard to believe it is only the 3rd game of the season. Let's keep in mind that the most important thing is not the score....it is about having fun and learning about this great game.
Lets keep up the hard work and great communication while we continue to have fun playing the best sport in the world - hockey. Great job Sharks!
Sharks win again making it two victories in a row....
The Sharks played another great game jumping out to a 2 nothing lead on the first shift of the game. Nick T. had a hat trick (three goals in one game), Anthony B. scored his first ever goal (and our first goal of the year for the second line), and Chris T. put in the other goal - leading the Sharks to a 5 - 2 victory. The team was really playing well on offense and defense. Steven S. was the goalie and posted the win. He had a shutout until the last few minutes of the game.
The coaches are very proud of the way the entire team has started the season. The boys continue to work hard as they learn their positions. We are having a blast coaching and hope the boys are having as much fun as we are playing.
Sharks win first ever hockey game as a team
The Sharks scored the first 3 goals of the game and the season and held on to win 3-2 in our first ever official hockey game as a team. Both coaches are very proud of the players. Great job!
Our first line scored all three goals while many of our younger players on the second and third lines played in their first Good Shepherd Hockey league game. Our first goal of the season was scored by Chris. Our other two goal scorers were Nick T., and Danny. We also had two different goaltenders. Stephen played goal for the first time in his career - and did a great job before having to leave. Tyler (a six year old playing in his first hockey game ever) put on the pads after playing third line offense and defense, and finished the game for us between the pipes. Everyone did a great job, especially when it came to touching up and staying on-sides.
The coaches can not say enough about the team's efforts. The boys showed great sportmanship cheering and supporting each other and listening to the refs. We feel they have already come a long way since our first practice a few weeks ago. We hope to teach them more about playing hockey, sportmanship, and teamwork....and hope to make the season an enjoyable, fun, learning experience for everyone involved.
Please feel free to reach out to either coach if you have any questions or concerns.
