A WORD FROM THE VP.

WELCOME TO HOUSE MAJOR

On behalf of Windsor Minor Hockey, I would like to thank all the players, parents and sponsors for their support and involvement in this great association for the 2012/13 hockey season.

Chris Banwell has decided to step down from the board. I cannot thank Chris enough for the endless hours of volunteering he did for so many players. Chris’s passion for hockey pushed to make every season to be as competitive, fun, fair, challenging and safe as possible. Chris demanded all volunteers to strive to be the best mentors they could be to the players they coached.  I think I can speak for all players, coaches and parents involved in Windsor Minor Hockey to say Thank You.

Having the right volunteers in place to challenge and protect our kids was a job that

I and Chris Banwell constantly monitored. Just getting volunteers in place has always been a huge job. We are well aware that things can’t always be perfect. As conflicts arose we did our very best to work with all involved to try, at least what we felt at the time, to do our very best to make things right.  Having the coaches and his/her staff strive for better development was

always demanded along with doing everything possible to make sure the players’ season was fun, exciting and competitive. Please remember that if things don’t run the way you would like them to run, step up as a volunteer, this way you have a say in the operations of a team and you can make a difference.

Myself and Chris Banwell did our best to have a positive communication line between board members and all of the volunteers in house major. All the volunteers that were involved in any way with house major showed a true passion in wanting the very best for all the players. This passion was shown by the volunteers making sure the Windsor Minor house major divisions remained strong and as competitive as possible.

Every year brings a battle between coaches, players and parents against the level of referees we see in our games. We seem to exhaust all our energy trying to find the answers to all the conflicts that arise each year for all parties. I will continue to try my best to push for the referees to do their best in doing their job so that their influence in the out come of the game is at a minimum so that the true outcome is directed from the players.

Travel Evaluations for the 2013~14 season will be held in May at the WFCU. Check on wmha.net in the travel section for times and cost. I cannot stress enough the importance of having as many WMHA registrants tryout for all travel teams in the division they play in. Each year, a huge effort is put out to strengthen our association’s travel teams and to make sure more opportunities are offered to more players so that they can experience a travel program.

Mike Dugal and a group of volunteers started the ASSIST Program to help low income families put their children into hockey.  Grants will be given to help pay registration costs and to help secure equipment.  If you require more information, contact Mike Dugal at 999-2283 or e-mail mduga2@hotmail.com .

In closing, I can only hope that the endless hours of work put in by all the volunteers this season has laid a better foundation to start with next season and the seasons to follow. I hope that all the work we do might encourage more parents to step up as volunteers in order to make the hockey experience the players have, the most exciting possible. Please always refer to the website, www.wmha.net , one of the best in minor hockey or the house major website, www.leaguelineup.com/housemajor , to get as much up-to-date information as possible for Windsor Minor and the house major divisions.

Have a safe and fun summer.

Thanks Always

Ken Strong
