DRAFT Howard Palmetto COVID Procedures

All participants, spectators and relatives must adhere to Howard Palmetto's Protocols and Guidelines.  If you are not willing to follow these protocols and guidelines – PLEASE STAY HOME

ONLY two parents/guardians and the player’s siblings may attend games.

STAY IN YOUR VEHICLES (including players and coaches) until 30 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled game time.  For example: if a game starts at 6 PM – do NOT enter the park until 5:30 PM.

FACIAL COVERING REQUIRED at ALL TIMES in the Park – Everyone including players MUST wear a facial covering at all times.  The only exception are players on the field during games and pre-game warm-ups.  Players MUST wear their facial coverings at all times while in the Dugouts (before, during, and after games).  Coaches MUST wear facial coverings at all times including while they are on the field.

Maintain Social Distancing – 6+ FT

Bleachers are closed – You must bring your own seats.  People who live in the same households may sit together.  Otherwise, spectators MUST sit 6+ feet apart.  No one is allowed to sit or stand from dugout to dugout (this is from the end of one dugout all the way around behind home plate to the end of the other dugout). You must sit behind the fence down the left-field and right-field lines past the dugouts.

Bring hand sanitizer and sanitize your hands before entering the facility, and frequently during your stay.

No high fives, handshakes, or intentional physical contact. Smiles and cheers encouraged!

Staff, parents, and participants will be required to stay home if they, or anyone they have come in contact with, is sick.

No team snacks or drinks.

Restroom use is limited to one person at a time.

We all need to recognize that one mistake puts the entire season in jeopardy.  If we work together we can make things enjoyable and safe for all.  Thank you!

We are currently working on finalizing our COVID-19 procedures with the Village of Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay. As soon as we're finished, we will open registration for the upcoming season. Practices and games start in January and end in May.

Howard Palmetto Baseball & Softball Association (HPBSA) is the largest recreational baseball league in South Florida. Bringing the neighborhood together through sports is what HPBSA has been all about since 1962.

We play at the best baseball facilities in our area: Coral Reef, Evelyn Greer, and Suniland Parks. Moms and Dads who played years ago now can coach their kids on the very same fields. Coaches who retired when their kids grew into adults are now back on the field with their grandchildren.

Divisions start at T-ball and go to the high school level, covering ages 4 to 17. We are a recreational baseball league, which means that our costs are lower, we don't travel to other fields and everyone who signs up will be placed on a team. Every player bats and everyone plays the majority of innings in each game. Your kids are never too old to start!

Over 200 volunteers, coaches and division leaders make Howard Palmetto a place where friendships between kids and parents from all walks of life are made. For more information email us at info@howardpalmetto.com.

FAQ for New Players

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions for parents who are considering signing their son or daughter up to play for the first time:

Q: When are practices?
A: In the T-Ball division, practices are set by each Manager by working with parents to find the best day/time that works for most people.  Not everyone will be able to make each practice, but Managers will try to do their best to find a time that works.  Typically, practice is one weekday after school.  In other divisions, practice fields are assigned by request up to two weeks in advance.  Typically teams practice one weekday and one weekend.

Q: When are games?
A: In the T-Ball division, games are played mostly on Saturday mornings between 8:45am and 12pm.  In other divisions, there are typically two games per week.  One weekday game and one weekend game.  Games start in late January and run through the end of May.

Q: What do I get when I register my son or daughter to play?
A: A full uniform, team practice equipment (balls, bases), player trophies, FREE league-wide events (Opening Picnic, Movie Night), umpires, the priceless experience of playing team sports in a safe, fun and competitive environment on some of the best fields in South Florida right in your backyard.

Q: What equipment with my son or daughter need?
A: Players will need a glove, rubber bottom cleats and a helmet with facemask.  A bat is not mandatory since players may share bats.  For softball, we encourage girls to purchase a facemask for use in the field.

Howard Palmetto Parent's Code of Ethics

I hereby pledge to provide support, care, and encouragement for my child participating in the Howard Palmetto Baseball Softball Association, Inc. by following the Parent’s Code of Ethics. I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other youth sports event. I will place the emotional and physical wellbeing of my child and that of the other players from both teams ahead of any personal desire to win. I will support the coaches and officials working with my child in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all. I will remember that the game is for the kids, not the adults. I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials with respect, regardless of race, gender, creed, or ability. Furthermore, I will make every effort to get my child to practices, games, and league-scheduled activities on time. I will let the coach know when my child will be missing a practice or game. When unable to attend I will make every effort to pick up my child promptly after games and practices. Lastly, I will allow my child to have fun and enjoy our time together at Howard Palmetto.

Howard Palmetto T-ball is an excellent, family-friendly experience for new and returning ballplayers.  Games are only three innings long; no score is kept, and each child gets to hit and play in the field.  Practice is set by each Manager and is typically held after school hours during the weekday no more than once a week.  Coaches are expected to treat each child and parent fairly, provide a positive influence for kids, and most importantly ensure the kids have a fun baseball experience.

Over the course of the season there will be league picnics, a special Miami Marlins game for Howard Palmetto families and a clinic with the University of Miami Baseball team.

Equipment: Participants will need a glove, rubber bottom cleats and a helmet with facemask.  A bat is not mandatory since players may share bats.

Included in the registration fee: A full uniform, team practice equipment (balls, bases, tees), player trophies and leaguewide events.

Each team will need parent volunteers to serve as Manager, Assistant Coach (up to 3) and Team Parent.  Managers and Coaches must pass a background check and will receive tips on how to run practices, what skills to focus on and the expectations of gameday.  Please contact T-Ball Commissioner Ethan Shapiro  tball@howardpalmetto.com if you would like to manage your child’s team or should you have any other questions about the league.
