INIS FADA GOLF RULES

A discussion has occurred regarding “gimmie” putts and their impact on our “sweep” results.  In the past there has been little problem in this regard because there was no money at stake.  Now that we have most members competing in the sweeps for money let me reiterate our rules.  Please do not offer a gimme of more than 12”, or approximately the length of the leather on the putter grip.  While it may be good sportsmanship in your foursomes’ Nassau competition, you are playing against all the people in the club not just your group and you are giving unfair advantage.  If and only if you are out of the sweeps competition is a gimmie over 12” okay.

The same goes for all other stroke play rules of golf.  They are to be adhered to “to the letter of the law” except for those exceptions provided in our bylaws and our fescue rules at certain golf courses.  Taking a drop with a penalty for a lost ball or an out of bounds, while it speeds up play and is recommended, it also disqualifies you in the sweeps competition.  You must go back and rehit to remain in the sweeps.  To avoid the problem, when in doubt, hit a provisional!!!

Also, unless clean and place rules have been announced prior to play, you can not improve your lie or clean your ball without penalty, for any reason, including identifying it as yours (unless of course you are on the green).
