Mandatory gender discussion

The OHF has mandated that coaches must have a discussion with their teams early in the season with regards to gender identity, inclusion, and discrimination. This has been covered in the news and there is information available on the Alliance Hockey website. We would like to know if there is any member of Lawfield with training or experience regarding this subject, specifically with regards to minors. If you would like to be of assistance in our effort to handle this in a proper and timely fashion, please contact either Tony Carden or Kevin McGuirk through the contact link on our website.

An important message from Tony Carden, LMHA President, regarding Novice registrations

As you may or may not know, Hockey Canada has issued a mandate that for the 2018/2019 season, that all 2011 born players entering Novice division must play a half ice format for games. In 2019/2020 they will continue to play this format until the middle of the season and then proceed to full ice in order to be prepared for Atom hockey the following year. Due to the fact that there are only a certain number of players that will be available to register as 7 year olds next season, the LMHA executive has agreed on the following for our program. Rosedale Minor Hockey has been operating under the guidance and constitution of Lawfield this past season and will continue to do so in the near future. All 7 year old players that come to Lawfield to register will be placed in the Rosedale program for next season. All 8 year old players that register at Rosedale will be placed in the Lawfield program. For next season, Lawfield will run a major Novice program that will involve a city wide full ice interlock and Select program that will be determined at the Hockey Council level prior to the end of this season. We believe that by limiting the number of associations that will offer the half ice program, we will be better able to offer a consistent learning opportunity, and follow through on the direction of Hockey Canada across the City. If there are any members that would like to be involved in the half ice programs as coaches or on ice helpers, please contact any board member for discussion. When further information becomes available we will provide updates.
