Betsy Dickson Wins North Dakota Miss Softball

Midway Summer Baseball Alum Betsy Dickson, who played the past two seasons for Grand Forks Central, was named the 2007 North Dakota Miss Softball by the coaches around the state. Dickson played T-Ball, Cal Ripken, and Babe Ruth for Midway until 2004. This was only her second year of playing fast pitch softball after playing Varsity Baseball for Midway High School starting in Left Field as a Freshman and at Second Base as a Sophmore. In her final year of Babe Ruth she was selected as a starting catcher for the Northern League Babe Ruth All-Star Game.

Minnesota Twins Help Build New Field

Each year the Minnesota Twins, in partnership with The Toro Company and Land O’ Lakes, offer the “Minnesota Twins Fields for Kids” program to help communities renovate or build new baseball and softball fields. The program provides communities a matching grant of up to $5,000 dollars to complete renovation or new construction of the basic needs of a field to provide a safe field for play for kids all across North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Manitoba. Since 1999, The Twins have donated over $1 million to build or renovate over 200 fields. In the Summer of 2005, Midway was selected as one of the programs to receive a grant of $5,000 to renovate their field. With the money received Midway constructed an entire new field for the Cal Ripken and T-Ball programs to use.
