The Brats to become the 1st official 10U Milford TRAVEL fast-pitch team in 2009
As you know, the Milford Brats finished the Fall Rec season 17-0 (23-2, if you count the travel tournaments) outscoring the opponents 156-30. Since my sole purpose to being a coach is to get my players better, I have decided that the Brats will become the 1st official 10U Milford TRAVEL fast-pitch team in 2009. We will start out playing at the B-level, with the hopes of challenging A-level travel teams.
Before I hold try-outs for new players within or outside the park, I will give my current girls spots on the team. This is not a recreational softball team and sole intent is to challenge our girls and put the best team available into competition (& against the toughest completion).
The Brats will play softball tournaments during spring and summer (March – September) in 2009. The Brats will be a competitive travel softball team that will play in about 20 weekend tournaments primarily in Georgia (1hr drive time) with a couple in Alabama & Tennessee. The Brats will host two Tournaments at home at Milford during the 2009 season.
There is a player and parent commitment to the team. Although I don’t expect each player to make every practice and every tournament; however I do expect each player to participate in at least 1 practice a week and attend at least 70% of the tournaments. The registration fee per player is based on and includes the cost of tournament entry fees, uniforms and insurance. To help offset other costs, we will conduct fundraising events and seek other team sponsors.
The Brats will also need parent involvement and help for our success, including providing help during home and away tournaments. We expect each family will help and participate in fundraising events, especially at our home tournaments, which is our biggest fundraiser. Players are encouraged to seek a sponsor for their player entry fee.
We will practice 2 times a week and play in 1 to 3 weekend tournaments a month. The commitment and time demands are at higher level than non-travel ball and should be considered by the parents and child beforehand. Practices will last 2 hours. During the week we may have 1-2 games in addition to regular practices. On tournament weekends we can expect to play at least 3 games on a Saturday and as many as 7-8. As always, I will try to keep Friday and Sunday open when possible.
