RIPPERS take XDS 2014 San Diego Memorial Day AAA Championship

May 26, 2014

The boys traveled down to San Diego in style this weekend aboard Amtrak's 'California Cruisin' train, caught a Padre game (and some Padre girls) spent the weekend together, and finished in style by taking home the AAA Championship Trophy.  Congratulations on another fine performance boys!

RIPPERS Champions of 2014 USSSA Cinco De Mayo Super NIT

May 5, 2014

Another solid tournament for the boys this weekend as they went undefeated (4-0) in the Cinco De Mayo Super NIT tournament at BLD Chino Hills and walked away with another championship. Their focus on the mental approach to the game was evident throughout the weekend and was a factor in all four games.  Great job boys!

Game #1:  RIPPERS-11, Los Altos Elite-3:
RIPPERS' bats exploded in the first inning scoring 8 runs...and stellar pitching by C.Jung (4 innings) and J.Tarango (1 inning) was the difference in the game called early due to the max. run rule. A solid game at the plate was had by many, led by multiple hits from J. Cruz, R.Griffin, J.Soto, A.Gonzalez (2 RBIs), H.Raley (3 RBIs) and J.Tarango.

Game #2:  RIPPERS-10, So Cal Lightning-0:
The RIPPERS' high powered bats picked up where they left off in game 2 as the boys came out of the gate strong again scoring 4 in the bottom of the 1st. Doubles by J.Cruz and H.Raley were followed by RBI singles from C.Jung and J.Soto.  Raley had 3 extra base hits in the game.  The RIPPERS' Cruz, Raley, Rath, Tarango, Pulido and Jung combined for 13 of the teams 18 hits.  Griffin, Soto and Morales (double off the wall in left center) rounded out the hit parade.  Exceptional pitching from Griffin (3 inn), Gonzalez (3 inn) and Hearn (1inn) kept the Lightning off the bases and recorded a combined 12 K's and the shutout.

Championship Sunday Game #3:  RIPPERS-1, Las Vegas Phenom-0:
In a pitching duel of pitching duels the RIPPERS pushed across the only run needed on a walk-off single by H.Raley in the bottom of the 7th.  Stellar pitching performances by both the RIPPERS' R.Griffin and LV Phenom ended when Raley hit a sharp ball and hesitation from Lightning's shortstop allowed Griffin to come home for the game winner.

Championship Sunday Game #4:  RIPPERS-8, IE Elite-6:
In a game where the lead changed hands 5 times, the RIPPERS came through when it counted and beat IE Elite 8-6 to take home the Championship.
After IE Elite went up in the 6-2 in the 6th inning, the RIPPERS took the lead for good by scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 6th, capped by a bases loaded triple by I.Martinez.  H.Raley rounded out a dazzling weekend at the plate by pounding out a triple in the first and a double in the fourth.  Pulido, Gonzales and Jung contributed in the 9 hit game by collecting singles. J.Hearn threw 5 strong innings on the mound striking out 3 and A.Gonzalez sealed victory with the final 2.

The RIPPERS outscored opponents 30-9 throughout the tournament.
