Co-Hosting Tournaments

Most USSSA tournaments in MD are run by the MD USSSA Baseball Director. Running a successful tournament is not easy. USSSA works very hard to maintain a standard of excellence and consistency. USSSA prefers that tournament hosts be independent, impartial and experienced tournament directors. USSSA recognizes that teams would like to be involved in hosting events and we have developed the co-host process. This process allows a team to be involved in every USSSA-run event in Maryland with zero risk, little effort while raising money for their team. See the co-hosting details below. However, there may be some opportunities for teams or organizations, to host their own USSSA tournament. See the hosting details below.

Co-hosting Process:

  1. Contact the MD USSSSA Director (Tim Wickstrom) to discuss your interest to co-host a tournament at 443-537-8135.
  2. MD USSSA is responsible in all aspects of running the tournament except for the co-host responsibilities.
  3. Co-host responsibilities at MD USSSA run tournaments:
  • Provide the labor to rake and water fields, as needed, in between each game and extra labor if raining. MD USSSA staff will prepare the fields for the start of each day of the tournament.
  • Provide volunteers to assist set-up and break-down of the USSSA merchandise area.
  • Provide one person from the team, who is not a coach, to be responsible for all volunteer workers.
  • Provide team players to take the 50/50 raffle around twice during the day on Saturdays.

        4. MD USSSA will provide the co-host the following:

  • The co-host team will receive free tournament entry (typically $399 to $575 value).
  • The co-host will receive a berth to the USSSA World Series “A” or “B” or "C" to be determined by MD USSSA Director and team head coach.
  • Each player will receive a complimentary co-host commemorative T shirt at the conclusion of the tournament.

Hosting:

  1. Opportunities to host your own tournament are limited based upon your experience as a host, access to acceptable fields and other USSSA events already being run by the state office. Contact  MD USSSA Director  to discuss your tournament request.

USSSA Baseball, believes that players of all skill levels should get to experience the excitement and the value of national tournament play. We think that the benefits of meeting and competing against players with comparable talents from across the nation can offer each player with memories and lessons that they can use on and off of the field for years to come. Whether your team is vying to be the best in the nation or better than last season, USSSA Baseball has a program that is perfect for you.

At USSSA Baseball, teams have the opportunity to compete at the level that best fits their culture and goals: Major, AAA, AA, or A. Both the Major program and the AAA program are national and culminate in a World Series. The Major division is made up of the top competitive teams in the country, while the AAA division holds the competitive teams that sit more towards the middle of the pack. The AA division is a regional program that is run by participating states and culminates at a National tournament. The AA division may house teams that have restricted rosters, teams that have drafted players, or teams that play at the recreational level. The A level is reserved strictly for the recreational teams that wish to play exclusively at the state level.

Team Age & Starting Classification

USSSA offers baseball for ages 4U - 18U in single age divisions.  The age of your team is determined by the age of your oldest player.  The age cut off date is May 1st.  To calculate the legal participation age for a player.  For the Fall / Winter Season, players play up to the age they will be the following spring / summer.  Of course any player may play up in age but never down.
