Tigers End Season On High Note
In a season full of ups and downs, the Tigers ended their 2010 football campaign on a high note with a 19-0 win over HyVee. Playing in the playoff consolation round, the Tigers victory brought their final season record to 3 wins and 5 losses. After a scoreless quarter and half of play, the Tiger offense got the ball with 5 minutes left in the second quarter and marched down the field behind the hard nosed inside running of running back Jacob Schwab and the outside running threat of quarterback Adam Erickson. As the first half clocked ticked down, Harrisburg ultimately struck paydirt from 12 yards out on a sweep by Erickson. Erickson was escorted to the end zone behind key blocks by Cade Wallace and Fred Roufs. The PAT failed. The team went to intermission with a rare halftime lead with the a score of 6-0. In the third quarter, Schwab again powered the Tiger offense with strong running inside the tackles. Midway through the third quarter and after Schwab was denied on a 2nd and goal from the one yard line, Erickson then faked to Schwab and bootlegged his way into the end zone on 3rd down to the extend the lead. A Nick Hoyt run converted the PAT to make the score 13-0. Blair Slaughter took over at quarterback for much of the second half and helped lead the Tigers to their final score to ice the game. After Slaughter connected on a 20 yard pass to tight end Black Hanson and Wallace gained 12 yards on a counter play, Slaugher took to the air again and hit Roufs from 15 yards out on a pretty pass play to make the score 19-0. That score stood and the Tigers celebrated a final victory and the culmination of a good season. The coaching staff would like to extend a huge thanks to all the players and their families for the time commitment and effort exhibited this year. The season was a true representation of how a play here or a play there can make the difference between winning and losing. Our Tigers lost to the Harrisburg Journey team in the opening round of the playoffs in a hard fought game that ended 7-0. That Journey team has since won two more playoff games and remains alive in the final 8 teams fighting for the championship. So we can take pride in that we could match up to almost any team in the League. We hope the boys learned something about the game this year and had fun being part of the team. And we hope they look forward to more years of learning and tons of fun as Harrisburg Tigers!
