Alumni softball is the very very worst softball league on the island. My family games of stick ball on holidays are run better and more organized. The league is ran by someone who only cares about the money that is the only time you will talk to him to hound you for it. You have umpires who make up rules as they go along and are unable to be shown the actual rules. You have teams that got beat by double digits all year by 8 and 9 guys that are allowed to bring down pitchers who are not eligible to pitch for them for the playoffs. You have an umpire who said I did not see the play overturning the umpire who was right in front of it and saw it all while the person who runs the league is 20 feet away not bothering to get up and walk over and explain logic to his umpire. Final play of a playoff series a runner coming to third from second thought a double play was turned but it was not, he ran into his dugout and his team pushed him back onto third base. He was called out for conceding himself until the umpire behind the plate who did not see it overturned the call because he believes the rule is as long as he did not sit down on his bench in the dugout he is not out. After being told this and showed the actual rule the comissioner of the league decided he did not want to be bothered and said even though that is wrong and not a rule it will stand. Even though they had an illegal pitcher and should have got two losses the games also stand. This is the same guy who made my team rake his field for two hours last season before a best of 3 semi finals game as the other team took batting practice instead of getting his guys to do it. If you want to join a real softball league not one for $1,200 bucks with 4 teams and not get treated like an As$hole give JFK a try, Tabeeks league, John Ginos league, 5th boro, Fun leagues, my aunts house on holidays, anywhere but here this was the worst experience me and my guys ever had to deal with in our 8 years of softball. To let a playoff series end on a call that is from a comic book and do nothing about it there is no reason you should run a league and it is why this league has gone from 10 teams to 8 to 6 to 4 and now to 2 after this season. Not even the courtesy of an explanation which made sense, pathetic. I would rather personally get any team 10% off of any other league than have them go through the misery of a season in Alumni Softball. Most expensive league on Staten Island with no staff and nobody who knows the game enough to overturn a call or even cares enough to explain their logic which I understand when there is no logic behind the call besides you want to go home and do not want to admit you got it wrong there is not much to explain. I figure if i leave an honest review maybe I could get the owner of the league to take interest in his league enough to control it. You would think with 4 teams left you would try hard to keep them not lose 50% more of your league week 1 of the playoffs.
