Head Varsity Coach

Trey Cobb

Coach Cobb has the priviledge to come to Smithsburg with a background in baseball as a player and coach. He played two years of college ball at HCC, and then transfered to Salisbury University where he was fortunate to play on two great teams that set records both years in wins and consecutive wins. Coach Cobb had the great experience of going to the World Series his senior year, and being part of one of the six best teams in the country at the Division III level.

After college, Coach Cobb began coaching right away at Hagerstown Community College under the brilliant baseball mind of Scott Jennings (who has never had a losing season). In the four years that he was at HCC, and in the very competitive region XX, Coach Cobb assisted the Hawks to two second place regional finishes. In 2008 he helped the Hawks to a regional championship, district championship, and berth in the World Series! HCC became the third best team in the nation going 2-2 in the World Series with the memorable win against the defending champs Chipola, Florida!

Coach Cobb has also been a private lesson and clinic instructor, as well as done lessons and clinics at Extra Innings. Since Extra Innings has opened he has instructed baseball to young people of all ages ranging from 6 to 22, as well as assisted with its coaching clinics.

Coach Cobb is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, The National High School baseball Association, and the Maryland Baseball Coaches Association.

Coach Cobb is married to Kelli Cobb, and they have a set of twins, Tenley Renee and Ty Robert. They reside in Waynesboro, PA.

Assistant Coach

Chad Rupert

Coach Rupert is a hard worker who will fit in very nicely with the “lunch pale” mentality and philosophy of the program. Coach Rupert was a solid and consistent performer on the Smithsburg baseball team when he as a player. He then chose to take the route of an athletic trainer when he went to West Virginia University. His background in this field will be an asset to the program as he prepares young men for games and the season. Coach Cobb is pleased to have such a guy on staff that is willing to do anything for the program, and especially our student athletes.
Coach Rupert will mainly be involved as a JV assistant, but he remains a vital part in all aspects of the program. He will be very involved with the catchers and first basemen.

Chad resides in Smithsburg, and is employed with Gouff Construction.

Assistant Coach/Statistician

Mike Kipe

Coach Kipe comes to the Leopards with many years of experience. He is the manager of Hagerstown's semi pro team, the Hagerstown Braves, and played 2 years at HCC and Salisbury University. Kipe will be a great asset to the program and he will be primarily involved as a varsity assistant and helping with statistics and managing the website. Coach Kipe is married to Shannon Kipe, and they have a daughter, Kaylee and son. Layton. They reside in Hagerstown, MD.
