COME ON OUT...IT'S FREE, IT'S EXCITING, IT'S THE WAY BASEBALL IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED!!
The Kenosha Kings are a semi-pro team that consists of present college players as well as ex-college and pro players. There is no charge for our home games. We raise money by issuing a media guide which has sponsors that pay for advertisements in the guide, and/or on the walls of historical Simmons field.
The Kings have been in Kenosha for 24 years and play in the Wisconsin State League and the Frank Langsdorf League of SE Wisconsin. The players and the organization rely on the local community and local businesses to exist. If you are interested in donating or advertising with the Kenosha Kings Baseball Club please visit our "Contact Info" link in the upper left and give us a call!!
All Kings home games are played at Simmons Field (Sheridan Rd at 78 Street, Kenosha, WI)
Season Outlook
On the mound the Kings will rely heavily on last years starters to get quality starts and carry the load in innings pitched. At the top of our rotation will be the WSL Pitcher Of The Year, Randy Johnson (.78 ERA), Jon Olson (2.44 ERA), Chad Ori (1.94 ERA), Jason Bunton (2.61 ERA), Mike O'Leary (3.81 ERA) Jason Dennis (4.23 ERA)and Steve Fox (5.09 ERA). These are 7 quality starters that will compete against the best of the best in both the Wisconsin State League and the Langsdorf League and we can expect 20-25 wins out of these 7. The overall success will depend on the the next 4 in line, Jack Olson, Scott Sailing, Bronson Gahagan, and Frank Cook. If the Kings can get 3-5 wins out of each of these guys, it will be a big boost to get the Kings over the hump in '08.
In the outfield the Kings will be solid once again. With the return of All WSL first teamer Andy Heller, and Dave Hermes, this group will provide a tremedous punch. Danny Spino, Ryan McManaman will compete in centerfield, and also will provide key AB's in other positions as needed. The Kings will find a way to get All WSL DH/Utility, Jason Dennis in the lineup, so you can expect to see JD in just about any position doing a solid and consistent job as proven in years past.
On the infield, the '08 Kings should be one of the best groups in the Midwest. The corners will be anchored by familiar veterans. WSL Player of the Year, Mark Cibrario and 2nd year King, Kevin Zalnis will man thirdbase. 3rd year King, John Lequia, and First year guy Jason Acevedo will be the front runners for firstbase and the power in the middle of the lineup. Parkside standout John Hasser, and veteran Jason Dennis will also see time at firstbase. Dan Anstedt, Kevin Zalnis, and Joe Ferro will be the 3 headed monster up the middle at second base and shortstop. First year player, Mike Fuchs, and second year player, Ross Conwell, will look to break into that mix as well.
During the dog days of summer, being behind the plate is an unenviable position. Fortunately the Kings will be more rock solid than ever during the 2008 campaign. Veteran Evan McHalffey, and first year catcher Billy Johnson will do most of the catching duties, along with Matt Abraham and emergency catcher Scott Novotny.
This will be one of the most challenging years ever getting everyone playing time. The 2008 are rich at so many positions that it will really be a dog fight for who rises above to take these starting spots. With that said, it has always came down to the same thing, reliability, consistency, hustle, grit, and pitching. If we can have our table setters get on consistently, and stay healthy on the mound with the pitchers we have, and have 1 or 2 of the spot guys really step up, it will be a really special year for the 2008 Kings.
