Orioles end up Penmar runner-up

Orioles 1 - Oaks 2

Cody Ellsworth and Nathan King throw pitchers duel in Championship game. Ellsworth threw 7 innings of 6 hit ball, allowing only 2 first inning runs with 7 strikeouts. Oaks scored 2 in the first with a single, and a walk then a 2 RBI double, which were the only runs Ellsworth allowed. Orioles scored their lone run in the 3rd when Ellsworth led off with a single, pushed to second on a Sac bunt by Roy Jefferys and scored on a Ben Russell FC. Orioles couldn't muster another run, which left the score at 2-1. Orioles end the season at 10-18.


Orioles lose opening playoff game

Game 1- championship series

Orioles 5 - Oaks 9

Orioles and Oaks went back and forth entire game, but orioles just couldn't match in the last couple innings. Orioles got the scoring started in the 3rd when Hunter Jenkins reached on an error, Jakson Bauer singled right after, Ben Russell then reached on an infield error to load the bases, Mike Livingston then delivered a 2 RBI single. Oaks immediately answered with 2 of their own runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Orioles then struck again for 2 more in the 6th when Cameron Bratton led off with a double and was plated by Cody Jefferys, Jenkins and Bauer then followed with back to back singles to plate Jefferys, pushing the score to 4-2. Oaks then answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th. scored tied 4-4 going into the 8th, Cody Jefferys led off the inning with a triple, and was then plated by Jenkins. leading 5-4 going into the 8th. Oaks broke it open with 5 runs leading to the final scored of 9-5.

Orioles take 2 from Martinsburg

Game 1 

Orioles 3 - Martinsburg 0

Orioles scored 3 runs in the first which was all the run support Davey "Rhino" Rinehart would need. Jakson Bauer got it started in the first leading off with a single, promptly stole second base, moved to third on a FC by JT Stevenson, Ben Russell and Cameron Bratton then walked back to back, which then Matt Wright delivered a 2 RBI single, which Roy Jefferys then followed up with a RBI single. On the mound Rhino threw 7 innings of shutout baseball allowing 6 hits, 1 walk and 1 strikeout earning his first win on the season.

Game 2

Orioles 4 - Martinsburg 3

Orioles walk it off in the bottom of the 9th on a Jakson Bauer single which plated Dylan Wilson. Cameron bratton threw a strong game on the mound, throwing 9 innings of 5 hit baseball, allowing 1 walk, 3 runs and 8 strikeouts. Orioles scored 1 in the 2nd on a leadoff walk by Cody Jefferys, who was sacrificed to 2nd on a bunt by Roy Jefferys, then advanced to third and then scored on pass balls. Orioles then plated 2 more in the 4th, with MAtt Wright leading off with a single, followed by 2 walks by Roy Jefferys, and Brady Hillegas, another walk by Dylan Wilson plated Matt Wright and Jakson Bauer then delivered a FC which plated the 2nd run. Orioles were then kept off the board until the bottom of the 9th, when Dylan Wilson led off with a single, stole 2nd base and scored on Jakson Bauers single.

 

Orioles next game is a DH at Home against the Titans on saturday 7/20.

 


Orioles split with cross-town rivals

Game 1

Orioles 5 - Titans 1

Joe Glass threw a complete game, allowing 5 singles, 1 run, 1 walk and 8 strikeouts, en route to earning his first victory of the 2019 season. Orioles got on the board in the 3rd inning, when Jake Vanmeter singled to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a pass-ball, then pushed to 3rd on a sacrifice by Hunter Jenkins, then Ben Russell delivered an RBI single, Jakson Bauer and Reynaldo Adames singled back to back, which then pushed Russell across. Orioles put one more up in the 3rd when Cody Ellsworth singled, and scored on Jake Vanmeters FC, which the Titans then threw the ball away allowed Ellsworth to score from 1st base. Orioles then stayed off the board until the 6th, when Jenkins singled, and promptly stole 2nd base, Russell then blasted a 2-run homerun to left, putting the score at 5-1.

 

Game 2

Orioles 1 - Titans 2

Game 2 was a pitchers duel between Caleb Hare for the Titans and Orioles own Cameron Bratton. Bratton threw 7 innings of 3 hit baseball with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. Titans scored an unearned run in 1st on a throwing error by the Orioles third baseman. Orioles stayed off the board until the 6th when Mike Livingston lead off the inning with a triple, and then scored on Jake Vanmeters fielders choice. Titans then pushed a run across in the bottom of the 7th on a bases loaded single.

 

Orioles record sits at 2-5.

Orioles Awards

March 28, 2019

Silver Slugger Award - Gage Shaffer #8

Gage posted a .327 batting average in 17 games played, tied the team leader in triples (2) and 2nd on the team in doubles (4). Gage also scored 9 times and had 8 RBIs.

 

Cy Young Award - Cameron Bratton #13

Bratton became the workhorse for the Orioles during the playoffs, throwing 3 complete 9 inning victories. Bratton appeared in 6 games all starts going 4-2 with 47 innings pitched, allowing only 9 earned runs with 50 strikeouts, posting a 1.72 ERA. 

 

MVP - Jake Vanmeter #1

Jake became one of the most consistent players in the Orioles lineup hitting an impressive .346 B.A. in his first season with the club; Jake hit 3 doubles with 10 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Jake also was tied for outfield assists (4) with 2 coming in the post season.

 

Comeback Player of the Year - Cody Jefferies #36

Cody regained his old form hitting .276 with 12 runs scored, and lead the team in doubles (5) and was tied with Shaffer for lead in triples (2). Cody also knocked in a team High RBIs (12). Cody also became a staple in the outfield tying Vanmeter with (4) outfield assists. 

 

Team Player - Matt Wright #9

Matt has become a veteran on the Orioles roster and continues to help coaching staff, mentor and improve the younger O's. Matt is looking to regain his impressive form from 2017 where he post a .321 BA with 4 doubles and a triple. 

 

Congratulations to the award recipients also Good Luck to Bratton and Shaffer who are continuing their play at Maryland Eastern Shore ( Bratton) and Essex CC (Shaffer).

Saturday 8/18/18

Cumberland Orioles 3 - Brunswick Orioles 1

Cumberland beat defending state champions and national runner-up Brunswick Orioles to advance to the State Championship game. Cameron Bratton threw a 9 inning gem, allowing 6 singles, 1 run, 4 walks and 10 strikeouts, and Cumberland Orioles rode the hot bats of Gage Shaffer and Jake Vanmeter. Brunswick struck first with their lone run in the top of the 2nd, and Cumberland answered with 2 in the bottom of the 2nd. Gage Shaffer led off with a single and advance to 2nd on a passball and scored on a Double by Jake Vanmeter, who then scored on a Hunter Jenkins single. Cumberland then tacked on another run in the third when Chris Wilson walked, advanced to 2nd and scored on a laser hit to right field by Gage Shaffer. which was enough run support for Bratton. 

Championship game

Saturday 8/18/18 

Cumberland Orioles 3 - Maryland Dodgers 1

Cumberland Orioles claim their first Maryland state Championship title, Joe Glass threw another gem for the Orioles in the Championship series allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 12 strikeouts in 9 innings. Orioles struck first in the bottom of the 6th on a Chris Wilson 2 RBI single which plated Hunter Jenkins and Cole Smith. Orioles then added and insurance run in the bottom of the 8th when Chris Wilson singled, stole 2nd and scored on a Cody Jefferys Single. 

Orioles finish the Dominate season with a 22-8 record. owning the Penmar-Wv league Championship and State Champions.

Chris Wilson earned MVP of the State playoff tournament going 3 for 3 in the championship game with 2 RBIs, 1 run scored and a single.

 


Orioles win Championship Series in 2 games

August 12, 2018

Orioles 3 - Oaks 1

Orioles started hot getting all 3 runs in the 1st inning, Birds struck first with back to back singles by Cole Smith, and Chris Wilson; who advanced to 3rd and 2nd on a groundout by Ben Russell, and a double in the gap by Cody Jefferys plated both Smith and Wilson, then Jefferys scored on a throwing error by the Oaks 3rd baseman. Trenton Eirich threw another dominate performace allowing 6 runs, 4 walls, 1 run and 3 strikeouts in 7 innings. 

 

Orioles advance to the Maryland State Championship, which will be held at the Farigrounds this year. Orioles await the seeding to determine who they will be playing.


Orioles win opening game in Championship series

August 11, 2018

Orioles 1 - Oaks 0

Cameron Bratton threw a 9 inning gem, allowing only 1 single to oakland hitters, which came with 1 out in the 9th inning, Bratton went the distance allowing 3 walks, 1 hit, 0 runs and 9 strikeouts. Orioles got their lone run in the 3rd inning when Roy Jefferys singled, was advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Hunter Jenkins, then scored on an RBI single by Cole Smith.

Orioles and Oaks continue the Championship series tomorrow at Garrett College game 2 of the series begin at 1pm, and if needed game 3 will be played 30 mins after the completion of the prior game. 


Orioles advance to Championship series for 3rd consecutive year

Saturday August 4th Orioles 3 - Titans 1

Orioles took game 1 of a 3 game series in the first round of the playoffs over the Wheelhouse Titans. Cameron Bratton led the charge on the mound, throwing 9 innings of 6 hit baseball, while allowing 1 run, 2 walks and 8 Strikeouts. Orioles got on the board in the 4th with a leadoff walk by Cody Jefferys, followed up by 3 singles by Jake Vanmeter, Ryan Miller then an RBI single by Roy Jefferys. Cole Smith then led off the 8th with a Triple and was singled in by Cody Jefferys, Orioles then add an insurance run in the 9th with back to back doubles by Hunter Jenkins and Chris Wilson.

Sunday August 5th Orioles 1 - Titans 0

Orioles sweep titans in playoff series, Trenton Eirich threw 7 strong innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, and 3 strikeouts. Orioles lone run came in the 5th with a leadoff single by Jake Vanmeter, which advanced to second on a passball, and scored on a Roy Jefferys single. 

 

Orioles advance to the Championship series next weekend versus the Oakland Oaks in a re-match on last seasons championship series.

Game 1 will be played Saturday at the Fairgrounds ( Holler field) while Game 2 will be a doubleheader if necessary at Garret College on Sunday. 


Orioles handed second loss of season

Game 1 Orioles 3 - Titans 4

Brian Powell has handed the Orioles both of their losses this season. Titans got on the board early in the 2nd and 3rd innings and took advantage of 2 HBP and a BB, which all 3 came around to score. Wade McGee came in relief and threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Orioles started piecing together runs late in the game but just couldn't get it going soon enough. Orioles were led by Hunter Jenkins 2 hits and an RBI, Brady Hillegas 2 hits, Cody Jefferys 2 Hits.

Game 2 Orioles 1 - Titans 0

Cameron Bratton threw a complete game shutout throwing 7 scoreless innnings, of 5 hit baseball with 12 strikeouts. Hunter Jenkins promptly led off the 1st inning with a single, which came around to score on a Cody Jefferys RBI triple, which was all the run support Bratton would need. Orioles look to improving next weekend against Mount Savage Ol' Germans.

Sunday June 11th 

Game 1 

Orioles 5 - Petersburg River Rats 2

Orioles pitcher Davey "Rhino" Rinehart earns his 2nd win of the season, going 7 strong innings allowing 8 hits, 2 runs, 3 strikeouts, and 0 walks. Orioles got the scoring started early Hunter Jenkins led off the game with a walk, followed by a Roy Jefferys single, then advanced to 3rd on a Chris wilson sacrifice, Ben Russell then walked to load the bases. Brent Parrish then pushed Jenkins across on a Fielders Choice. Petersburg answered in the next inning piecing together 3 singles. The Orioles then answered with a 4 spot in the 4th inning starting with a Tristan Graeff walk, followed by back to back singles by Cody Jefferys and Hunter Jenkins, 2 runs then scored on pass balls, Hunter was pushed across by a Chris Wilson RBi single. Ben Russell then walked to put runners on the corners, and a perfectly excueted double steal pushed Wilson across. 

 

Game 2 

Orioles 3 - Petersburg 2

Wade McGee matched Davey Rinehart on the day winning his 2nd game of the season, Wade threw 8 innings, allowing 2 unearned runs, 10 strikeouts,and 2 walks. Petersburg scored there 2 unearned runs in bottom half of the 3rd. Orioles were kept off the board until the top half of the 5th inning, when Brent Parrish led off with a walk, and scored on a deep double by Gage Shaffer, who then was moved to 3rd by a perfect sacrifice bunt by Davey Rinehart and scored on a Tristan Graeff double. The scored stayed 2 - 2 pushing the game to extra innings, the River Rats led off with a single and stolen base putting the winning run on 2nd base, Wade McGee then struck the next batter out, petersburg immediately followed with another single, the Orioles then intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases. Wade McGee then promptly struck out the next 2 batters sending the game into extra innings. Orioles then scored the 3rd run in the top half of the 8th inning, with a Chris Wilson walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Russell, Brent Parrish then reach on a error, followed by another Gage Shaffer double pushing Chris Wilson across. Wade returned to finish the game retiring the first 3 hitters to end the game, and pushing the Orioles win streak to 5

Game 1

Orioles 5 - Oaks 1

Trenton Erich tossed a 3 hitter with 2 walks, 5 strikeouts and 1 unearned run. The Orioles scored their first run in the 3rd when Ryan Miller was hit by a pitch followed by Chris Wilson walk and scoring on a Ben Russell single. The Oaks answered with a runner reaching on an error and followed by a double. The Orioles then bounced back with 4 runs in the bottom half of the 6th, which was enough run support for Trenton, Cole Smith led off with a walk, followed by a single by Brent Parrish, then back to back walks by Brady Hillegas and Roy Jefferys, which scored 1 run, Hunter Jenkins then followed up with a Sac Fly pushing one more across; Chris Wilson immediately followed with a 2 RBI single. 

 

Game 2 

Orioles 0 - Oaks 0

Game 2 was suspended by rain in the top of the 3rd, on June 23rd the Orioles and Oaks will complete the suspended game prior to the start of the Doubleheader.

Update:

League Fundraiser went very successful for the Orioles, looking to continue the Gun Bash for next season. Orioles would like to thank everyone who came out and made the Fundraiser a success.

Saturday 5/26/18 against Boonsboro has been Postponed until a later date due to weather and scheduling conflicts

Saturday 6/2/18  Orioles doubleheader against Mount Savage Ol' Germans has been moved to the fairgrounds 1pm start time due to field issues at Moss Cottage. Everyone wear your orange an black and come out and support the Orioles on opening day.

Sunday 6/3/18 Orioles travel to Martinsburg to take on the Martinsburg Blue Sox in a doubleheader at Martinsburg HS start time 2pm.
