As the Head Coach and General Manager of the North DeKalb Blaze Track & Field Club (BLAZE), I’d like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself. I am a native Atlantan, and have been married for 22 years to Carla Holmes, Club Administrator for BLAZE. We have 5 children and 4 grandchildren. I am a graduate of the University of Miami with a B.A. in English/Journalism. I was a cornerback on the University of Miami Hurricanes football team and a sprinter on the track team. My events were the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. I am a Professional Photographer (Alabaster Box Photography) and Professional Fitness Trainer (Alabaster Box Fitness).

My family and I have been involved in track and field for almost 15 years, since our kids began competing in 2002 with the New Birth Track & Field Club. We were with that program for nine years, the last two of which I served as named General Manager. When my family moved to Brookhaven in 2012, we saw the need for a youth track and field program in the North DeKalb area – and so began BLAZE. In addition to my work with BLAZE, I have been a Community Coach for Chamblee Middle School (CMS) and Chamblee Charter High School (CCHS) since 2012. Both programs have been very successful, winning numerous County and Regional championships. I’ve also had several of the athletes I’ve coached through CMS, CCHS and BLAZE go on to compete at the collegiate level, many of whom are on track and field scholarships. I'm also very proud to have coached several athletes who have won state, regional and national track and field titles with AAU and USATF.

I am very excited about working with all of you, and am looking forward to a wonderful season. In order for this program to move to the next level and build off the solid foundation we’ve laid since 2012, we will need all of your help. If you have any ideas on how to make this a better track club, please send them to me or give me a call.

Parents and guardians, if you have a gift in fundraising, organizing, logistics, transportation, coaching, marketing, or if you know where to get quality services for the team free or cheap, call or email me or Coach Carla. We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, and effective volunteers to lead and participate in these and other activities for the upcoming season.

I am in it to win it! Let’s make this a season for the record books! So, if you know a young athlete who can run, jump or throw one deep, then RECRUIT, RECRUIT, and RECRUIT some more! We welcome back all of our returning BLAZE athletes and hope you bring someone with you! We are looking for raw, undeveloped talent; veteran athletes who want to move their skills to a new level; those who have a love for the sport; or those who just want to be physically fit and enjoy the camaraderie of this wonderful group of athletes, coaches, and parents.
