Kyle Smart graduated from Monterey High School in 2007. He was a member of the 2005 state finalist team and a starter in 2006 and 2007. Kyle went on to play college baseball at Wayland Baptist University. After playing two years at Wayland, Kyle transferred to UTPB before transferring to LCU to finish his degree. During his final year in college Kyle attended two MLB training camps, one of which was in Scottsdale, AZ. He competed against various minor league teams and players.

In 2007 Kyle also began his coaching career while helping coach at western little league and giving private lessons. He coached various summer league teams for high schools, assisted in various instructional camps, and has helped with the Abernathy and Monterey baseball programs. Kyle has coached ages 7-18, some of whom have gone to play at collegiate level.
