U6 Information
So what is U6 and what does division IV mean anyway?

U6 Means players are under 6. U6 players were born in either 2011 or 2012.

They will play on small teams - answers to a few common questions:

SPRINGVILLE SOCCER - U6 RULES (available also in the Download section)

1. No hands are to be used, obviously.
2. Substitutions can be made during any dead ball. Tell Official…“Subs!”
3. Players should play at least 50% a game. If a player doesn’t want to play,
don’t force them, maybe next game we can get them more playing time.
4. Game is 4 quarters, each lasting 8 minutes. Each quarter rotates who starts
kicks-off at half field.
5. THERE IS NO GOALIE. No player should be held back to “guard” the goal.
Once the ball moves to the opposite end of the field, all players should at least
move up to midfield.

Point of emphasis: Referees will encourage players that are hanging back to move forward with play.

6. THROW IN: If the ball is kicked out on the sideline, the ball is put in play by a
“throw-in”. On a throw-in, both feet should be touching the ground, 2-handed
throw from over the head (don’t be too particular).

CORNER KICK: If the ball is kicked out of the end line by the DEFENSIVE TEAM, offensive team begins play with a corner kick to the side of the goal.

GOAL KICK: If the ball is kicked out of the end line by the OFFENSIVE TEAM, the defensive teams begins play with a goal kick (ball placed near edge of goal box). For a goal kick, the defending team must line up behind midfield until the ball is kicked into play. Once kicked, they may move forward.

7. On corner, goal, or free kick, the defensive team should be 20+ feet away from
the ball (except in goal kick scenario stated above).
8. “Do-Overs”…unlimited in U6 play (corners, throw-ins, goal kicks, kickoffs).
9. The U6 level is for learning the basic fundamentals, not winning.
10. No goals awarded on throw-ins, goal kicks or center off, just re-start or re-do.

PENALTIES
The normal penalties, if any, are for incidental pushing or tripping. Whistle is blown and play begins with a indirect kick from that point by the offended team. Essentially, this is when the defending player, in an attempt to knock away the ball, contacts the offensive player prior to the ball. Interpretation: If a player’s progress is not impeded (i.e., breakaway) due to the contact, play should continue.

If penalty occurs in front of the goal (within 20 feet), ball will be moved back to approximately 15-20 feet (5-7 yards) from the goal. The free kick is then taken.

If a player’s rough play is intentional or doesn’t stop, the referee can stop play and require a substitution for the player for one quarter of play. (Coaches should monitor this closely, too.)

INFRACTIONS
Usually, touching the ball with the hands. Whistle is blown and ball is put in play with an indirect kick by the non-offending team at the point of infraction.
Interpretation: If a properly kicked ball, in the referee’s discretion, would have entered the goal, but was prevented from entering due to a handball, the goal may be awarded.

DIRECT KICK: Kick can be made into the goal without being touched by another player.

INDIRECT KICK: Kick must be touched by another player before entering goal.

NOTE: On any free kicks (including the kickoff) and on throw-ins, the player kicking the ball or throwing it in cannot touch it again until another player touches it. If this occurs, let the player re-throw or re-kick.
