14th Annual Ballin for a Cure (Official) Re-Cap!
While most were in town this past weekend for the Red River Classic, Girls Grassroots Basketball also brought them from near and far. The 14th Annual Ballin for a Cure (BFC) featured players and teams from Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Georgia, Florida & Tennessee. It was some big-time ball going on, and the gym was rocking from beginning to the end! Several teams walked away with hardware, but let's show love to all our division Champions!
2025 Ballin for a Cure Champions:
3rd Grade- Victory Academy 2035
4th Grade- HER Elite 2034 Jr. EYBL
5th Grade- SW Select Jr. 3ssb 2033
6th Grade- Lady Proskills 2032 (Red)
Middle School- True Texas Hoops 2030
6th Grade (Select Bracket)- San Antonio Hoops Elite (SAHE)
Middle School (Select Bracket)- San Antonio Lady Hoops (Silver) 2030
One of the most dominant performances of the weekend came from a group of 3rd graders, but this isn't your normal group of 3rd graders, as these young ladies from Victory Academy are special, and they made a huge statement this weekend, laying their claim as the top 3rd-grade team in the Country! Victory won their games by an average margin of victory of 30+ points per game. They were not competing against any scubs 3rd grade teams, they were going against some of the top teams in the region with talent from Texas, Kansas & Louisiana, with a couple of teams having national tournament experience! Victory Academy is no one-girl show, as they have several girls that can flat out go, but Autumn Craine continues to impress me as one of the top ballers in the 2035 class! Autumn has good size and length for a 2035. Autumn is like a swiss army knife as she has a high IQ, strong ball handling, finishes through traffic, dominant rebounder, and a bully on defense. This group of young ladies is definitely one you want to keep your eyes on, so stay tuned!
HER Elite 203 Jr. EYBL came to Texas to show why they are the #1 4th-grade team in the country. HER Elite was led by the MAYB MVP, Kensington Jett (Most Outstanding Player), and super-skilled Kori Dennard, who received an "All Tourney" recognition. HER Elite had an impressive showing, winning all their division games by double digits, capturing the 4th-grade division Championship. HER Elite also participated in a Showcase game featuring the #1 4th-grade team vs. the #1 5th-grade team SW Select 2033 Jr. 3ssb (formerly Lady Jets). HER Elite had a size advantage even playing up a grade, helping them jump out to an early lead. SW Select settled into their game, taking the lead before the half. SW Select pulled away in the 2nd half to get the "W" as every year makes a huge difference in grassroots ball. Still a highly impressive showing by HER Elite.
SW Select Jr. 3ssb (2033) had some epic battles vs. the #3-ranked Unfazed Elite. These teams are also local rivals and always have some of the best games of the tournament, and this game did not disappoint. SW Select jumped out to an early double-digit lead, but Unfazed Elite stormed back with Kali Buggs hitting back-to-back NBA Range 3's! This game was like a heavyweight fight but the 3-headed monster of Kharlie Griffith (MOP), Lauryn "Nike" Williamson and Lauryn "Shyne" Jackson proved to be too much, helping SW Select pull off the win in pool play. Kharlie Griffith continues to impress me as typically when kids are tall at an early age they are awkward, and take time to grow in their bodies, but Kharlie is long, fast, athletic and skilled looking like a "Baby Giannis" a.k.a. "Baby G". Kharlie's ability to get to the rim and finish over guards and bigs making her a wlaking mismatch as you can't put a guard on her as they are too small, and bigs are too slow. In addition, she has range on her 3 ball, so if you sag back, she will punish you. College coaches, she is one you want to put on your radar early as every school in the country will be trying to get their hands on her as kids like this do not come along often.
Lady Proskills 2032 (Red) showcased why they are one of the top 2032 teams in the country. Lady Proskills has one of the most experienced 2032 teams in the class with several of the players already having national championships under their belts and a ton of national championship experience so when you see them on your schedule, you'd better bring your "A" game, cause these ladies can ball. Lady Proskills cruised through pool play, setting up an anticipated match-up with Lady Proskills Jr. EYBL vs. SW Select Jr. 3ssb 2032. Even though the SW Select squad was only in their 2nd tournament, the coaches have history and have had some epic battles in the past. The championship game went back and forth, with Lady Proskills pulling out the 35-32 win! Lady Proskills was led this weekend by the division's Most Outstanding Player, Erin Tucker & Tamiya Jones.
The Middle School Division Championship was captured by the #1 2030 team in the country True Texas Hoops (TTH). On Saturday, True TX Hoops was missing the top player in TX, Trinity Boyd (2030), but you don't win national championships with one player. TTH was tested in pool play by one of the top 2031 teams in the country, Cy-Fair Elite Jr. EYBL 2031, but pulled out the win 46-40. With several talented teams in the Middle School division, the stage was set for some big-time match-ups in bracket play. Unfortunately for everyone else, Trinity Boyd was available for bracket play and her impact on the team showed why she is the top player in the class. It's not always about scoring, even though she is a 3-level scorer; her IQ and ability to set her teammates up for easy looks make the game easy for everyone around her. To show her impact on the team, the same team minus Boyd had a 6-point game vs. a talented 2031 Cy-Fair team which is one of the top 2031 teams in the country, but on Sunday, they won both of their games by 30 points vs. a very good and talented Unity (OK) team, which also had some big-time wins to reach the finals. The True TX team is loaded with players who will play at the next level. Trinity Boyd was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player, and Aya Medlock received All-Tourney recognition. I was impressed by Medlock's continuous development as she was one of the most dominant post players in the class, but now has transitioned away from the basket. She has shown the ability to score off the dribble drive, knock down the 3-ball, and facilitate, so her stock is steadily rising, already receiving offers. The full All-Tournament list can be found on the Southwestern AAU Instagram @SWAAUBBALL as well as the event highlight video.
Overall, the weekend featured great teams from all over, great coaching, and standout performances that brought all races together from near and far for a good cause and some big-time basketball. Thank You to all the Coaches/Teams who made the 2025 Ballin for a Cure a huge success! We look forward to the 15th Anniversary, which will have several special items & guests lined up to celebrate 15 years! Up next is the top Grassroots event of the New Year's. The Grassroots N.I.T. (National Invitation Tournament (GNIT). The GNIT will be held on MLK Weekend, which falls on January 17-18, 2026. Mark your calendars and get your squads signed up early for the GNIT!

2025 Grassroots N.I.T. Most Outstanding Player Award Winners!
The Lady Jets Aim to Defend Their AAU Grassroots National Championship
The Lady Jets 2033 have been one of the top 2033 teams in Texas & the Country. This past summer the Lady Jets captured the 4th Grade AAU Grassroots National Championship as 3rd graders in a thrilling "Sudden Death" Overtime win over a very talented Lady Proskills 2033. The Lady Jets haver been on a tear since then and have been the team to beat in the class of 2033. The Lady Jets were unable to win Primetime Sportz National Championship this summer because they didn't have enuf teams for the 3rd grade division as if teams were running from that smoke. So whoever is able to walk away with the GNIT Championsip will definitely make a huge statement & lay their claim of being the top 4th grade team in the country.
The 2025 Grassroots N.I.T. has a loaded 4th grade division featuring some of the top 4th grade teams from all over the state of Texas including teams from Amarillo, Nacadoches, as well as the FTA Lady Aces who are making the trip all the way from Georgia. All these top tier programs have come together to compete against some of the top teams and players in the country to lay their claim as the top 2033 team in the country! The division features several talented programs (2033 Division): Amarillo Lady Tigers, FTA Lady Aces (GA), Hot Shots, Lady Jets, Lady Proskills, San Antonio Hoops Elite, Team Lex Supreme, Texas Wild (Fieras) & Victory Academy to round out the 9 team field. These are not your average 4th graders as these young ladies can ball and ball at a high level is an understatement and if they have anything to say the future of the women's game is in good hands!
So Thank You to all the top tier programs who have together to make this happen becuase Iron Sharpens Iron so regardless of who wins the division, all of these young ladies will get better from experiencing this level of competition especially this early in the season. And with all kids getting better from this means this year's GNIT will be a win for all. So good luck this weekend and may the best team win! #c/o2033 #GNIT

Grassroots National Championship (Re-Cap) 2024!
Desoto, Texas was indeed the place to be during Father’s Day Weekend! The Grassroots National Championship showcased some of the country’s top teams and players, drawing participants from Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. The event featured 3rd to Middle School (MS) Showcase Divisions, where young talents took center stage.
In the MS Showcase Division, Lanae “Baby Bron” Dallas stood out as one of the top players in the 2028 class. With her solid build and ability to absorb contact from defenders, she effortlessly attacked the basket. Keep an eye on her as she continues to shine at Lincoln High School.
The Lady Jets dominated their pool play, defeating Proskills 38-28. Meanwhile, Campbell Elite secured their spot in the championship game with two convincing wins. In the semifinals, the Lady Jets cruised to victory, setting up a rematch with Proskills. Proskills, led by Larkin Johnson, avenged their earlier loss and clinched the 2024 GNC Showcase Division Championship. Lanae Dallas of the Lady Jets also earned recognition as a GNC All Star for her outstanding performance.
The 6th Grade Division featured an exciting matchup between True Texas Hoops 2030 and Lady Jets 2030. Phenomenal PG Trinity Boyd and forward Arriana Medlock led True Texas, while the Lady Jets had Penny Jiang, Ariel Powers, and Kalee Melo. Trinity Boyd showcased her skills on both ends of the court, demonstrating why she’s among the top players in her class. Ariana Medlock, a dominant forward/post, added to True Texas Hoops’ strength. Their intense game ended with True Texas Hoops securing a 31-28 win. The 6th Grade Division followed a Round Robin format, where teams had to win out or rely on tiebreakers. Trinity Boyd (#11) earned GNC All Star honors, along with Kalee Melo (#2) from the Lady Jets 2030. True Texas Hoops went on to win the remainder of their games going 4-0 securing 1st place in the division with the Lady Jets also winning their remiang games going 3-1 to finish as the GNC Runner Up!
TEXAS Vs. OKLAHOMA!!!
The 5th Grade D1/6th (D2) Division showcased one of Texas's top teams, the DC Queens 2031 (GN), and one of Oklahoma's elite, OKC Armor Elite. Both teams dominated their pool play games with double-digit victories, earning the #1 seeds and setting the stage for the much-anticipated Texas vs. Oklahoma showdown. The match lived up to its billing, featuring OKC Armor Elite's standout guard, Brooke Saunders—a top 25 player in the country according to Iball Nation for the class of 2031. Brooke, a crafty left-hander, excels in all aspects of the game. Her sturdy and athletic build allows her to play aggressively against opposing guards. With a high basketball IQ and matching skills, Brooke elevates her team's play by drawing double teams and creating opportunities for her teammates. The Queens' offense was spearheaded by the dynamic duo of sharpshooter Vy Green and point guard Jhada Rogers, both ranked in the Iball Nation Top 25. The game was a true spectacle, with both teams' star guards showcasing their talents. However, the game-changer was the interior presence of Laila Thomas (G/F) and Peytynn Bell (Post), also among the Iball Nation Top 25 players for the class of 2031. Leading 16-10 at halftime, the Queens ignited in the second half, especially when OKC switched to a 1-3-1 zone. Demonstrating patience, the Queens executed well, finding layups or open shots through excellent ball movement and decision-making. Their offensive firepower was overwhelming, with Kennedy Nicholas, a recent addition, proving to be a significant asset with her defensive prowess. Veterans Jhada Rogers and Vy Green made crucial plays, with Vy Green hitting three consecutive three-pointers. Each time OKC Armor Elite scored, the Queens responded in kind. Laila Thomas and Peytynn Bell were named GNC All Stars for the Queens, while Brooke Saunders earned the honor for Armor Elite. More updates on Brooke and the team will follow.
The 5th Grade (D2) Division, comprising five teams, adopted a round robin format, where each team plays against every other team once, and the best record determines the winner, making every game crucial. True Texas Hoops (TTH) 2031 (Legacy) achieved a perfect 4-0 record in the division, clinching the D2 Grassroots National Championship. They were spearheaded by GNC All-Star Zoe Crabtree, #21. The climactic championship game saw them face off against one of the premier 2032 teams, Lady Proskills 2032. Lady Proskills boasts formidable guards, notably Ta'Niya Jones (2032), the Queen of the Court MVP from this past April, supported by standout 2033 players. These young guards from Proskills, with their high basketball IQs and sophisticated skill sets, posed significant challenges for their opponents. Nevertheless, TTH's size advantage eventually overwhelmed the smaller Proskills 2032 team, which had moved up a grade, allowing TTH to secure an undefeated run and the 5th Grade (D2) GNC Title. Proskills, despite this setback, won their remaining games with a 3-1 record to secure second place.
The 3rd/4th grade division featured 1 of the best games of the entire tournament with the Lady Jets 2033 & Proskills 2033 having a double overtime "Sudden Death" finish! The future of the women's game is definitely in good hands if these young ladies have anything to do with it. The event was supposed to have a straight 3rd grade divisions but it's been hard to find 3rd grade teams that aren't afraid to play these 2 teams as they are so talented. To make sure these 2033's got to play we combined the 3rd & 4th Grade Girl's Divisions. What's crazy is the 2-3rd grade teams' game ultimately wind up being the championship game bewteen the Lady Jets & Proskills. Both of these teams have talented guards with the Lady Jets 2033 being led by Lauren "Nike" Williamson #23 & Kharlie Griffith #15 with Proskills being led by their 3 headed monster Kennedy Williamson #34, Genesis Edwards and Kali Buggs #22 with all 5 players being some of the top players in the 2033 class. I watched "Nike" score 10 points in a row to get her team back in the game vs. a very talented SAHE 2032 squad. Even with them pressing her full court she managed to go coast to coast and find her way to the rim time after time. I knew this Jets/Proskills matchup was gonna be EPIC and just the begining of a long rivalry between these top 2033 teams in the state and country. These 2 super talented squads did not disappoint, while living up to all the hype and then some!!! The Lady Jets jumped out to an early lead but Proskills stormed back making some huge 3 point shots. The game went down to the wire and with the score tied at the end of regulation, we had no choice but to head to overtime, we don't do ties...Lol. These young ladies fought hard in OT but we still had a tie at the end of the 1st overtime so by rule the next overtime period is sudden death which means the next basket wins. Proskills got the 1st crack at the Win in sudden death but missed both Ft's, then Nike stepped 2 the line and all she needed was 1 FT, so just like her name she "Just Did It" knocking the FT to capture the "W" & Grassroots national Championship Title for the Lady Jets. Remember the name as Lauren "NIKE" Williamson is the real deal scoring 20 out of her team's 26 points in the Championship game win while earning GNC All Star Honors along with her GNC All Star Selection teammate Kharlie Griffth having several key blocks (unofficially 10+ Blocks) in the finals to lead the Lady Jets to the GNC title. Kennedy Willamson was selected a GNC All Star from Proskills. Hands down 2 of your top 2 c/o 2033 teams in the state and I wouldn't hesitate to say the country.
Stay tuned for more info on the GNC All Stars!

BallnPrep/DC Sports Generation Next Middle School All Star Game/Showcase. Presented by: MaCleem

There are too many schools in the DFW to see every school play but if there is a standout player that we really need to see you can email a brief video clip and a copy of their Middle School Schedule. For players who are selected they need to fill out the Player Bio Form which is listed on the top right of our site. This info will be available to College Coaches, Scouting Services as well as Media Outlets to help market and provide exposure to players. Games will be posted online so college coaches can view games from all over the country. These coaches will also have access to player's info so if they are interested in players they can then send them Questionnaires or what people call "LETTERS". Macleem Sporting Goods created custom uniforms specifically for this event and Cali Streetball Legend J Boog will be on hand to do the games play by play announcing as well as Macleem staff will be on hand with tons of giveaways and contest between each period.
