I was explained to by the Refs, whom also stated this is a universal rule, not only in flag but in all football. At the coin toss you have two options. To kick or to receive. Once that decision is made the other team switches at half. When in all actuality you have 5 decisions. 1. Kick 2. Receive 3. Defend North Endzone 4. Defend South Endzone 5. Defer their choice to the 2nd half.

So I asked if we can win the toss and defer our choice to the second half they said no. I also asked if we wont the toss and chose to kick in the first half, if we could choose to kick in the second half as well...like we did in the warriors game last year when there was crazy wind and rain. They said no to that as well. On another note who's choosing to defend what goals? For example if we win the toss and chose to kick they choose where to receive as well. And same goes for the second half.
Basically the coin toss should go like this.

Team A wins the toss.
REFS "What would you like to do"

"We elect to defer to the second half." Team A States

Team B "We Elect to receive the ball."

Refs to team A "Which Goal would you like to defend?"

Team A "North Goal, and point if you dont know north or south"

Now if a team wins the toss and chooses to kick or defend either goal, the other team gets to receive and still has their choice at half.

To be honest my mind was blown when they said we can only choose kick or receive and it reverses at halftime.

Can we help out the refs. Or someone explain to me if I am wrong.

I agree with the problem at the coin toss. To avoid confusion we have only been giving four options. Kick, receive, defend or defer. We were actually considering taking the defend choice out as well. Before going any further, what i am looking into are the rules on all the different levels of football, (Pro, college, highschool, midget) in regards to the coin toss and choices. I am 99% sure they are not all identical. But I am man enough to say I can be wrong.
I have been at tournaments where the two head officials for that league have done it two different ways. So please forgive us and give me a chance to get it right. By Sun we will have it correct as agreed on by commisioner, teams and officials.

@Ish. After I re-read your post, I was amazed at how you blatantly lied about what I said. My answer was if the winning team chooses to kick or receive than in the second half we just do the opposite, that is if Team A kicks south first half. Then Team B kicks south second half. (this is the point in question). On a defer all the choices are available just like at the initial toss.
What I am asking is if you are going to quote me, please be accurate and more importantly HONEST!

Good work Chuck ....as long as you strive to get better we can't ask for anymore. You've done a great job over the last few years to make yourself one of the states best refs. Keep working at your craft.

That's not quite how the conversation went but its neither here nor there. The point being is that if team A chooses to kick to team B, Team B receives in the first half. Then at half time team B gets their choice to kick receive or defend because in the first half team A chose. Chuck I have no reason to lie and it wasn't an attack. It was an effort to get the rule Right and what it seems is that you guys are making the effort to do that.
