This was a game where people knew that The Rams would have a HUGE test and in the end it's what The Rams got as they lost 28-0 too me I was impressed at how The Rams defense didn't allow a big play on offense from Evansville North all game long also was impressed with the early goaline stand The Rams had when they were down 7-0 I think what seperates The Rams from being an elite 2A power is what Evansville North had and that was the 240 pound lineman that were quick and powerful and those little powerbacks that you can rotate in to wear out a defense...NOW about the offense of the Rams going in you knew you had to atleast pass on Evansville North to beat them well The Rams tried but it was a disaster I don't know how the playcalling goes if you have 1,000 plays in the playbook or whatever but when you have 0 passing game you won't be able to do crap against good teams 8 passes for -6 yards in a game where you could at least do somethin to open things up The Rams pass at the weridest times to try and pass they deep balls looked bad the one was to a kid who hasn't played all year and I get it was a blown route because of lack of participation but the others you could tell the passing game just isn't there you can't go into a game and force a pass or force somethin you're not comfortable with or bad things will happen...i'm just saying if we had a passing game the game might have been able to put up at least a touchdown on them...the offensive gameplan looked like it was playing against North Harrison instead of Evansville North...somethin I noticed and didn't udnerstand the Kameda brothers had some good runs against Evansville North's defense and the playcalling seemed to go away from what they were doing or they didn't try to use what they were getting with them to their advantage? but who knows maybe it takes a butt kicking or mudhole stomping or whatever you wanna call it like this so that you can learn and go far into the tournament....

shiz-
Our boys played a good game Friday night against a worthy opponent. Just hoping that something was learned from this game that we can use going forth this season.
I know that some will think this to be a negative post, but trust me it's not. I've saying all along if we beefup our schedule and improve our passing game, we will be a better team overall. Let's learn from this loss and start another willing streak.

Agree with Dutch. Effort was there all night. It was 1 of those games where our speed was a non factor. I also am hoping that there was some lessons learned. Nothing we tried to do seemed to surprise them.

Sometimes when you play the game, and you do the best you can be, things just don't win. It doesn't mean we played a bad game, it means that we just met an oppoent who happened to be better than us on a night. We'll be better for playing this team.

I have not posted since the beginning of the season.
I saw no lack of effort Friday night, we were up against a bigger, stronger, faster team. I hope the boys don't get down on themselves.

I suggested before that we ought to run an "I" as I thought it would better suit our players. Some of you disagreed with me and that is OK. The two teams that beat us and Forrest Park (who moved the ball well in the scrimmage)all run an I. Its big advantage is it forces you to develop a good passing game. Same goes for split backs. Our offense makes it real hard to develop a passing game. The quarterback in this offense by definition is a tailback who can pass. Developing passing is just not a priority. Look at how Georgia Tech and Navy struggle when they are behind and forced to pass. This offense is "when in doubt run". The trouble is when you run up against a defense that stops the option you are dead in the water. We need some variety to mix things up. Misdirection, play action passes, different formations, shotgun when you have no option but to pass. I see no reason we can't do those things. We have to if we want to go anywhere in the playoffs.

Shizz has talked about the need of developing a passing game. He is right. It is hard to get good at passing if you never do it. Why have we not done that in some of these blowout games we had earlier in the season? It would have been the perfect time to do it. Pass every down of the second or third quarter for instance.

I think we have a good chance in the sectional. The draw is in our favor. But we have to open things up to have a chance to go very far. Eventually someone will stop the option. We need to be ready.

Honestly think the hopes of "opening up our offense" is wishful thinking. I agree that it needs to be done but don't believe it will. And as I have said many times, I think we have the athletes to do it.

Realistic,

I agree with you it is late but not too late. The boys can easily learn some new things, they all seem smart enough to me. They just need the opportunity to get a lot of reps in. Lets hope they do. Get a lead on North Harrison and open it up.

I don't think the staff has any intentions of opening it up. How many games are left are irrelevant. Just hope for the boys sake, we can improve on the foundation the staff has laid. Let me say, I do believe that the best team won Friday night. It's just a little frustrating sitting watching the game and knowing where the ball is going and knowing the defense knows it also. That was evident.

I want to make this perfectly clear. This is not meant to be a negative or argumentative post. Please go back to my previous posts and you'll see that I emphasized the important of passing the ball more and developing a passing scheme and not waiting until late in the season. I also talked about a tougher schedule. Our boys do what they are told to do. Don't blame it on them. I'm sure the coaching staff has the best intentions in mind too. However, as I said, don't wait until it too late in the season to develop a passing offense of some type.

Dutch that is 1 thing we have always agreed on. Can't be predictable against athletes equal to or better than you. And I'm not trying to be negative either. We are what we are. I remember the terrible losing streak we suffered. It could always be worse but there is a chance it could be better.

I just sit back and think like I did the other night watching the game and wonder too myself "If we had a decent passing game we could actually beat this team" you can't go out and say you are a championship winning team when your weakness is that obvious when the only passing game you have that is accurate is a little screen pass or halfback screen and nothin downfield there is nothin there that tells me that you want to when the game by taking chances downfield I get tired of saying this but when you go up against a team like Crawford or Salem or Mitchell or whoever and you don't at least gameplan a down the field passing attack and pass enough so that when you come up against Evansville North they would have to atleast repsect the passing game and you can use it too you advantage there's no hope goin far in the tournament...now about the offensive coordinator game day play calling that's for another topic...

We have the athletes to do down field passing. Wilson has shown that he can throw a accurate long ball, and Phelps, Axsom, etc. have shown they can catch even when a defender is on them. They can pass against the JV all day in practice, but if you pass less than 10 times in a GAME situation, there is no way they are going to be good at it. The potential is there it just needs to be developed.

I agree there are the players to do it but not doing it is what gets me too me if you go into a gam,e like The Rams do then you are admitting defeat when you get down like 21-0 just don't get why a team can't pass at least close to 20 times a game when the opportunities are there to do so?
