Orioles Fly Over the Royals with 14-9 Victory
SAN FERNANDO, Calif., Apr. 30--The Valley Orioles (3–4–1) came back twice to beat the Burbank Royals (3–3–1) in their second matchup of the season, at San Fernando High School.
After coasting five innings to a 4–2 lead on solid defense and another outstanding start from Kevin Bronson (1-0), the Royals crept back to take a 6–5 lead by the end the sixth inning.
The O's recaptured a 7–6 lead in the top of the seventh, courtesy of a two-run inside-the-park home run by Ulises Mendoza. However, that was quickly answered with three runs by the Royals, giving them a new 9–7 lead.
Orioles reliever Gary Cozine (1-0) threw 2-1/3 scoreless innings, holding the Royals in check while the Orioles edged ahead to a 10–9 lead with a three-run eighth inning, scoring four more in the ninth to close their 14-9 victory.
