The Gaze held Rocco's down early but Brewers end up on top

The Venice Gaze and Rocco’s Tavern Brewers meet for the first time and it was a friendly yet awkward meeting of ex-teammates after an amicable split. There were a few hit batters, but nobody was hurt in the playing of this game.
Brian Sindle started for the Gaze and said his fastball was firm but was having a hard time with his curve, but somehow found a way to keep the brewers from scoring. Anthony Romero started for the Brewers and was overheard saying he really wanted to stick it to the Gaze.
The Gaze scored a run and climbed on top first. But in the 5th inning The Brewers came together, stroked a few balls into the outfield and erupted for 3 runs. A throwing error from shortstop Alex Anguiano, allowed one runner to score, the ball bounced back to the first baseman Andy Lazarus who made a fabulous play tossing the ball home trying to stop Cookson from scoring. The balls were taking some tricky hops and Anguiano did everything he could while trying to finish off the play. On the ensuing play at the plate, Gaze catcher Julian Solomita made a great play trying to keep Jeff Cookson from coming home, but his tag was a little high. Julian said I know I got a piece of him, Cookson said he never felt him touch me… but I never stopped and I was determined to score.
In the 7th inning the Brewers came together again this time hitting on Gaze pitcher Ari Zagaris. With a runner on base Eric Sterz came to the plate, the hard throwing Zagaris kept trying to get inside, but Sterz fought off his advances with a broken bat single to left. When Sterz got back to the dugout and was quoted saying,” I thought I hit it better than that, but after seeing my bat, I must have gotten fisted a little bit… but hey, at least we scored.”
The Gaze didn’t go down quietly, trying to mount a comeback, the switch-hitting catcher in his first at bat going righty, Julian went to the gap and tried furiously to get from second base to third base but was stopped prematurely when the Brewers ganged up on him with a strong relay to cut him down before getting to third. The Gaze were disappointed but umpire Nick… said, “I was in position and I saw everything… “
The brewers said the real reason they stopped the Gaze from scoring came on defense by doubling up the Gaze 3 or 4 different times.

Manager Leo Amari was quoted after the game saying “The Gaze put up a good fight, but we found a way to get on top … we tried really hard to finish off the Gaze.”
Ari Zagaris got the “I hit it well, but had nothing to show for it” award for the day. He hit two deep fly balls to the deepest parts of the park but never got the chance to score.

Wow, I’m spent, this is going to be a great season.
